Nice kit you always give great demonstrations of gear, although I do have one comment which pertains to most of these videos is that you need some good clear eye protection if walking at night in the forest after 45 years of being a tree surgeon Eye protection is an absolute must, with possibly even having back up.

Love the video, but just a quick tip for a version of the pocket bellow. I get a cheap back scratcher (find the damn things pretty much anywhere). The extendable kind, with the rubberized handle. Just cut the end off the rubber and you have a pocket bellow, that you can actually use the scratcher to somewhat direct the air under wood if you want....and you can scratch your back too! lol Just a thought.

I learned decades ago - Lighter / Swiss Army Knife in your shirt pockets as soon as you leave your camp or start your hike. I have passed people who have all the gear but unable to remove a splinter or bee sting (you scrape the sting in one motion with something that is flat). I have been camping when others have arrived without a way to light a fire too. I like the idea of the 2 different water bottles styles too. Weight is always an issue but the ability to boil water is mandatory for a few reasons. Well produced kit there, mate.

Not kidding! I know someone who bought an expensive and massive amount of so called premium outdoor gear. He brought it to one of our „off time for dads camping weekend“ and he wasn’t even able to remove all packaging on his own as he didn’t even own a SAK. He bought one of those multitools which come in those plastic packages that you can’t open without using another tool. He had so many and expensive items but as he didn’t spend a single minute into thinking about useful gear, he was like lost even owning all that stuff.

@@starfox-germany During my reserves time we needed to boil water to heat the rations as they were boil in the bag kits over a hexamine stove. The matches were often brittle so I carried a lighter (good old Bic & Swiss Army Knife in my shirt pockets). These are the 2 most instant use items needed by any military personnel. Oh we had a FRED too - a Field Ration Eating Device. Just like A USA P38 but with a small spoon added - but we moved away to probably the best quality rations spoon since as any soldier just wants to eat & not worry about a tiny spoon.

Something else you might be interested in carrying: Individual package of FAB laundry powder soap (like you'd see in a hotel laundromat or a Freeosk @ Sam's Club). FAB laundry soap (powder) is FANTASTIC for getting tree sap/pitch out of clothes or off your skin.

New hat? Nice kit. I like to add a small tube of vaseline lip therapy to either my first aid or fire kit. Also ballistol wipes come in handy for clean up and protection of knives, axes, saws, stoves and firearms.

Funny enough, I actually found your channel through that video just a few weeks ago. I was just looking for a decent budget backpack for general outdoors use (day trips, hiking, etc), and 3V gear was recommended to me. Your video was helpful, and I ended up with their updated model of the bag. Haven't gotten a chance to use it for anything outdoors yet (it's been raining non-stop), but your videos have helped scratch the itch while I'm waiting for better weather.

@@starfox-germany I have not, but I probably would've picked it up over in their recent sale if I didn't already have this one. From the videos I've seen on it, it looks much higher quality. The storage organizers also look more thought out. There's an excessive amount of pen slots in the admin panel of the velox. They're all fairly tight, and I find the pockets to be a bit too short for longer pens/pencils. Other than that I like the rest of the compartments even if they're fairly simplistic. The weather did clear up, and I took it hiking through some overgrown nature trail in the swamp. The mesh straps, and grooved backplate definitely helped with the heat. Initially I thought it might be uncomfortable, but I didn't have a problem with it in practice. I only had it loaded up to around 12lbs though. If you need something now the 3v gear is good for the money, but if you can wait for a sale on the rush 12 it'd be a great buy. Unless you want to buy it full price, but I've noticed they have a surprising amount of sales. I've picked up several of their pants all on sale (love the quest pant). One more thing to note, just looking at the rush 12 it does look like it's more durable, but less breathable, if that's a major concern. Hope my ramblings can help.

Great kit, everything well thought out - except for the tomahawk, IMHO its obsolete for a dayhike as well as for a 72-hour bug out. It's heavy and dangerous and does nothing that a knife and a saw can't - and the lack of a counterweight on the back makes it wobbly and even more dangerous. Could easily serve as a 72 hours bag - and if you add a piece of dropcloth you can even create a super-shelter for icy winter nights. Some things to add to the Victorinox: 1- the spine of the saw is a sharp 90° and able to strike a ferrorod too 2- the awl makes nice little holes that fit 550-P-cord 3- if you choose a model with plastic scales and a corkscrew, e.g. Camper, Huntsman, Forester, you can replace the toothpick by a Firefly ferrorod and store two Helix tinders in the corkscrew, making it a Survival Kit of its own

I carry a 240mm folding saw and a Mora Companion, both together not half the weight of my small hatchet, and never experienced a situation I had to regret my decision. The reason I ask is I'm not well (asbestosis) so I'm limited & medically disabled/retired. I'm really just starting bushcraft/survival because I see some really serious issues. I like the gear that you showed and have a few questions one is there a preference on whistles or will almost any small loud whistle do as I have a couple small ones one is a small metal whistle that I had gotten a few years back t h at is loud but high pitch another is one that came on a match case that has a compass/mirror on one end whistle on the other ( pea ) and small Ferro rod on the side and match case integer for holding matches, and a third one is also a metal whistle that is also quite loud. Also I was wondering about the grill do you think it would work with a canteen ( GI ) stove or a pocket cooker twig stove? I have a small booboo kit first aid kit and am working on putting together a light trauma kit or would that be overkill on that? I have other questions but don't want to take up to much time. I have a few back packs that are simular to this that I use for hunting and would love to set them all up in simular ways but for different times of the hunting/fishing seasons and I was also wondering if you carry any thing for fishing/trapping and maybe aquireing small game for just in case?

Great kit but my real takeaway from this and a lot of kits is, you really can’t buy what you need, for example the canteene the stove was separate and from the quality one. This seems to be the way for most bushcraft outdoors things in a kit one or two bits are excellent the other are shit. What we need is somewhere that you can buy the individual pieces at a decent price.

I have always doubts in my head when I see a tomahawk in a Bushcraft pack. A Tomahawk is a mediocre tool to process wood but nice for killing people. I carry a small axe but never chop on anything because I have a Silky in my Bushcraft pack and I don’t need to split wood with a thin tomahawk or knife because I have a small splitting axe (the gränsfors outdoors axe) in my pack, and a dedicated wood processing tool like a small splitting axe and a small folding saw are much better in my opinion. Srsly get yourself the Gränsfors Outdoors Axe, she’ll the best small axe I ever had!
