Hello Jennifer, Its so good to see your vlogs. And I'm wondering how you are actually introducing another language for example french to your kiddos. 😊

Hi Parul! Thanks so much for watching and leaving a comment, I really appreciate your support for the channel! So, the way we do things with regards to the two languages; we follow the one person: one language method, where I speak only English to the girls as it’s my native language and my husband speaks only French to them as that is his native language. The girls can understand French but are not as confident speaking in french as much as they are in English but this is to be expected as they are with me all day everyday, whereas Laurent doesn’t get to spend as much time with them as I do. To support their french language development, we join with a homeschooling french family once a week for a class in french and we meet some french children at the park for play dates. I’d say the most important thing is for a child to have one very strong mother language which they are very confident and fluent in and that language will support the acquisition of other languages. In Dubai, you’ll find a lot of people speak English to their kids even though it’s not their mother tongue and it causes issues for the child because they haven’t acquired the language from a native speaker so they are left with just broken English as their first language which is a very weak foundation for learning other languages. And even though the girls are stronger in English, they will eventually catch up in French through spending time with dad, visiting France every summer, FaceTime with french family, play dates with french friends, etc. With regards to academics, we are possibly considering a french tutor or something but we’re not sure yet. X

Hi Jennifer thank you for sharing and for creating very inspiring content on your channel! As you are a multicultural family living abroad and exposed to different cultural and geographic environments, could you please share your experience and any particular approach for implementing& teaching your doughters about inclusion/multiculturalism? Thank you. Anna

Hey Anna! Thanks ever so much for watching and leaving a question for me! So, with regards to your question, we actually don’t do anything in particular. Unlike what people are teaching in schools these days, we hold the belief that the best way to teach kids to get along with others of different beliefs, skin colours or cultures is to simply get along with them and be a good example. Isla knows that we are Christian and she is aware that some people are Muslim and visit mosques as that is the dominant religion here. We hear the call to prayer 5 times a day and I answer any questions she has honestly. She plays with kids at the park of all nationalities and colours and we go to church with a wide variety of people who look differently to us. It’s no big deal and we don’t make it one. With regards to our own differing cultures; we visit both our home countries each summer and we celebrate any national holidays and traditions altogether as a family, for example St. Andrew’s day and Burns supper as well as The Three Kings day. At the weekend, we have a french breakfast and Laurent makes crepes with the girls and I teach the girls Scottish country dancing. Not sure if that answers your question X

Hi Jennifer, been looking for vlogs that I can relate very much! Also an expat but here in Abu Dhabi. We go to Dubai once in a while. Where is your best “one stop shop go to” to shop for your kids things? Thanks.

Hey Cristina! Small world! I used to live in Abu Dhabi for a couple of years when we first moved out here. In Dubai, there are a couple of places I love to go to stock up on homeschool supplies: For trays, baskets and sensory stuff, I love The Gate on Hessa road. I also love Daiso, the Japanese shop, there are a few around. For Montessori materials, I usually get everything when I’m in the U.K. but there are a few small suppliers here. A good online option is Mumzworld.ae. The Montessori brand is called Raymond. A few online stores for open ended toys that I like are: eggsnsoldiers, ecosouk, marmarland (Abu Dhabi), ellijunior, thecrib.ae. For craft materials, I like amazon and Desertcart.
