I was glad to hear you clarify that a ferro rod is not a fire steel. I hear so many people call it a fire steel, drives me crazy.

Same here. Pisses me off.

Really good kit. Jess! That's cool that you're prepared to make fire in a few situations, for sure. I'm partial to the matches method😆🔥

Great idea for a fire kit Jes. Enjoyed watching. Have a good week.

It's taken me years to hone the kit down to what I have. I used to carry a bow drill kit; finally just left it at home to save the space.

My favourite is my Ferro rod, and a few Altoids tins full of dryer lint, shredded birch bark and hemp strands pulled/shredded into bundles...one tin of each. I also keep a lighter, but it is out of fuel; still makes fire if you know the trick. And lastly, 2 books of matches rolled into an old plastic 35mm film tube. I want a Flint and striker that isn't attached to a boom boom stick.

Sounds like you figured out pretty much what you need to get a fire going in any context.

Looks like a good kit! Oh.... hey Jes. 😂 My fire kit contains the following: Small fero rod Stormproof and strike anywhere matches in a match safe Birch bark Fatwood A piece of chaga Flint and steel kit w/ char tin & cloth Jute twine Not technically part of my kit but i always have a lighter in my pocket too.

I should get a match safe. I keep meaning to, then forgetting about it.

Very nice! We are under a no burn order down here. It really messes up camping.

I think we're going to just keep seeing no-burn days or months as time goes on. Makes me sad; I love a nice campfire.

Things i would recommend for ya kit. use denim for char cloth. ive persoanly tryed it and feel in my opinion that it burns longer and hotter then standard cotton char. A fresnel lens or mangnafying lens would be a good add on, usless in winter months but can also double for medical uses. maybe a metal pencil sharpener for use with fatwood. just some thoughts and suggestions. Be well Jesse. Praise be to Squirrels

Legit in the denim. Every time I wear out a pair of jeans I cut it up. I used to have a lens in my kit. I don’t remember why I took it out…

Nice fire starting kit! So you don't keep any lighters in there at all? I have seen people use an old lighter without fluid but can still use the wheel thing to make a starter to ignite...just curious
@RaindanceBushcraft Жыл бұрын
Yeah, a lighter is useful long after the fuel is gone. Dunno why, but I’ve just never carried one.

I have all but flint and steel. But I always carry a mini bic with out child safety part off.

We didn't want to make fire BUT mother nature struck a tree and burned down a shed here....

Yiiikes... What's the aftermath on that? Lost a bunch of stuff?
@peanuttruckerswifejennifer5407 Жыл бұрын
@RaindanceBushcraft nothing of much importance.. I was fixing to turn it into a greenhouse... Chris wanted it torn down LOL.... soooo needless to say... Chris and Mother Nature won and now we get to clean up the mess
