I use a Under Armour Storm backpack, it's designed for basketball players so it has a dedicated shoe pouch on the bottom. Think it cost $50 max.

A little late reaction, but a small battery powered fan can come handy sometimes (especially when the fan of the ball return does not work).

Is it necessary to have a high quality shammy or is it ok to only have a microfiber cloth? Would it make a big difference?

We find the shammys clean the oil off much better where the towels spread the oil around

For someone that lost the surface of his beloved apex to oil and dirt cleaning my ball has become an obsession, and yes I may be a tad OCD, I refuse to let dirty balls ruin another ball I am loving. So I go with a before spray, they always get sprayed down nice before league starts, and then after they get my cleaning wipe and fully cleaned before back in my bag. After 25 games are thrown on that ball, I use my detailed spray and my brush and that ball gets the manager's treatment, and my balls look and feel new. Why waste the money resurfacing at the pro shop all the time, a few cleaners, bowling balls are like guns you clean them they will stay good forever, but ignore them and rust or oil ends the ball, and resurfacing will only restore 75% of the ball.
