That’s the one 👌, myself and me father couldn’t for life of us remember the name. Would it be worth doing though? It’s about 50 years old and that bottom tank is bound to be rotten inside 🤔. Would it not cost near as much as a new one ?

@@IFarmWeFarm Hi, I think most people are moving away from that type of system now for a submersible pump that you actually put down in the well! Apparently a lot cheaper and more reliable. We had a similar set up on the farm years ago and I think that is the advice and direction my brother went with. No need for all the work insulating the shed etc with a submersible. Great content, keep up the good work.

Take the nut off the green pump box at the top and pour water in while running. it will pressurise and start pumping water out and up fairly lively. while pump is running and water shooting everywhere put the nut back on. you will have water.

A word of caution we had a spring at the bottom of a bank field after a dry summer it rained really hard washed the fert off the field into the spring we all got stomach problems. We had to drill a well at the top of the bank

Hi the pump is a loewe pump they are german made and i think parts still can be got. We have a simar setup on the farm here. If the pump comes on and off constantly, we isolate the tank from water lines and drain it. We find the on and off is air in the tank. As for your pipeline being lined with most likely a rusty lining, the cure for us is to disconnect pipe work in pump house and attach compressor at yard end and watch the rusty sludge fly out Hope this helps

Submersible pump, drop it into the well and just have the switch and buffer tank in the house. your well isn't that deep so no issues pumping up to thee yard (our well here in about 300ft deep) . Fit a filter on the outlet of pump to catch any debris or soil (have one here and change and clean the filters every few months). You probably use a night saver electric meter anyway so could use a buffer tank to store water during the day. lad who did my well told me was doing this for a few dairy lads. What he did was have a big storage tank on a high point on the farm (nice big hill up behind your yard) and use the pump to fill it overnight using the lower ESB rate. The tank then drains out during the day to fill the drinkers and tanks. The height of you have the tank will give the pressure.

My Grandmother (Lacken, Cappoquin, Waterford) had a Community Hand Pump at the end of her Boreen and it was absolutely great water. Our Water (Adelaide, South Australia) is so bad, ships visiting Our Port and Harbour refuse to take it onboard.

Consider doing a solar powered pump, with a smart battery charger that only turns on and charges when the battery is less then 40%. Run that up the hill to an elevated tank and let it "top up" the tank all day, then you'll also be saving electricity.

A new pump will be a lot more efficient power wise. Another way to set the pump system up is to set a tank up at the highest point say a 2000 or 3000g tank with a high low switch. The water then flows under gravity low pressure to where it’s required. The height generates pressure required. The pump does not trip in and out ever few minutes. There is a lab in Carlow that carries out the water testing. They will post out the bottles, paperwork which u return. Did u ever consider a mole plough for the 76? You could do your drainage and also pull in any pipes through the fields u want to bury. 👍

Great video Adrian ,you should look into water supply improvement grant especially as you say you have possibly high iron in your water supply. Such grants for water quality improvements are available true your local county council office. You have to send a water sample to an approved testing lab and results would verify if to be approved for grant. The grant too covers insolation water filters ,treatment equipment or if microbes were high like uv treatment light. Etc. Water quality issues are important for your families health or even water quality washing down your milking machine. I got my pump house fully done and the grant helped big time, also too don't forget to put in a fresh air ventilation point protect from vermin entering.

All most sure There is a good Grant for upgrading well pumps and so on ,check with your local County Council or company s selling pumps &filter systems should have the forms, you will be required to take a water sample from well and get it anilised, if you are going taking a sample from well,it might be a good idea to suck it out with slurry tank and give it a chance to refill then you can be sure of a fresh sample aneways hope this project goes well for you 👍

Hi. I have used a CLARKE BPT1200SS 1" 1200W 61LPM 46M HEAD STAINLESS STEEL BOOSTER PUMP (230V) to pump water from our well to our house and barns, about 200m or more and it has worked for years. Cheap as well .

The rust will clear after a while, any pump will only lift 30 feet, but it will push for miles, especially with a couple of foot valves in the line

I would look into a solar pump as long as sun is shining it will pump water. A solar pump could fill a fill several stock tanks in a row that then the over flow could go back into a garden or a small pond.

Your rust is prob just from the old pressure vessels. Your pipes could be fine. You can shock clorine your system if there is a problem. Esp surface pump and a good size pressure vessel, not too expensive. Not sure is frost still a problem with new pumps if water is moving regular!

The pump is a waterpak . Arnolds distributors Dublin were the Suppliers. Low volume output and useless if high pressure was required .We replaced ours with submersible in the well and would never look back. Fit it right fit it once.

On the pipework, if steel was installed all those years ago well it might be best replace it in the long therm. There is a resin liner systems that can be used for old pipe work in buildings, which I’ve seen. I’m an electrical engineer so some mech/ plumbers colleagues might need to pipe in ( excuse the pun) 😀

Hi Adrian, from what you have said the pump is operating on a pressure switch (the small rectangular box on the tank), and starts the pump whenever the pressure drops below a certain pressure. If the pump kept starting and stopping it could mean that there is a leak on the pipe which may be very difficult to find. It may be most cost effective to install a new line from the well to the farm - I would also put a 2-core cable with it. If the water is going into the tank, use a float switch and a starter to operate the pump (if you are installing cable then new pipe would be sensible anyway). I would think that a 1.5kW pump would be suitable - I have just had a similar set-up installed which has a 45m lift over 750m. If you would like any more info then please don't hesitate to get in touch

That pump might be a Westinghouse or a White-Westinghouse pump. (American company that’s been around for a long time.). As for the pipe, I’d save yourself the headaches and go new with polyethylene or similar. A sub-soiler and pipe laying tractor attachment or a trencher would work. In many places in the U.S. a red heat bulb is used in a light bulb receptacle outlet to keep small spaces warm. It works in pump houses, chicken coops, etc… and is an easy install. You’d have to find a switch that activates at the temperature setting you choose.

Depending on the inner-diameter of the existing water pipe, you might be able to feed a new plastic line inside the existing pipe.

Probably not much interior diametre left of a 1" galvanised pipe after something like 50 years. Digging and replacing with MDPE/HDPE is probably the best long-term solution. Even if you could get the water clear (and I suppose a good flush might do that) flow would be much lower than when the pipe was new because of rust.

Looks very similar to the old water pumps we had here. They were Lister pumps if memory serves me right. Had to replace them years ago, part's availability was non existent unfortunately. Having your own water supply is invaluable 👍 Might be worth looking into the possibility of fitting a solar powered pump if feasible, that way you will still have water during a power cut.

Oxalic acid is pretty good for removing rust. Never tried cleaning out pipes with it, though, only weeping rust. Might work if you can re-circulate solution through the pipe. With regards to pump-size, it might be worth looking at the discharge pressure, as you'll have approx. 1 bar static backpressure in the pipe per 10 meters of elevation, when pumping uphill. The pump has to overcome this backpressure to deliver water to the end-use point. Send some rain across the pond to Denmark, we're very dry here 🙂

One can buy a shallow well pump,or a sub pump, eps mallow ,or mayo will sort ya. Cheap as chips. Jfc will supply u 10000ltr header tank.a little boost pump from that tank would pump water around the place. You have whats called a shallow well at 12 foot. Before you do anything, go down and clean the sludge build up at the bottom of the well.

Over time a 2" system would be good because of the back pressure (or head loss) in the pipe and being pvc would give clean clear water rust-free.

I think it’s great to bring back the spring so you can use it again. Do it once and do it right! Replace the underground pipes, any treatment you send down there is only buying time and you can guarantee it will fail at the most awkward moment (deep winter or a heatwave).

use the rain water harvesting for grey water systems (washing yards, floors etc). Depending on the cladding and gutters you have you could use it was drinking water but would need to run on plastic surfaces so no galvanized roofs or gutters. line filters to the tank and a small pump inside to pump out if needed or just have a line straight to the power washer.

Interestingly when they test divining, it works no better than guessing (for obvious reasons) but you can pretty much be sure that in most parts of Ireland, if you dig a little bit down you'll find a spring. It's just how aquifers and springs tend to work

👀🙄🐾👍Wells and pumps are the norm in NZ I would advise you to go with a submersible pump to a 5000 or 6000 gallon tank in the area you have fenced off and a multistage jet or trash pump to pump it to tanks at the farm replace the line with a 50mm line to the farm

i think you have a build up of iron in the pump from running constantly . we had a trough with a broken ballcock in a field which I detected myself so the pump never cut off and as a result an iron problem burned out

Rain water coming off a roof is very clean water, after it washes all the dirt and bird poop off the roof. There are rain water catchment valves that detect water flow, and divert the first 10 minutes out to waste, then switch over to storage.
