@keithpokorny7767 Жыл бұрын
I’ve done that, and it makes all the difference in the world. It’s all about the top being insulated. In my cheaper, Coleman coolers I’m actually thrown a layer of plastic and a small poly blanket over the top and that makes all the difference in the world too. So buying a cheaper cooler and doing expandable foam into the hollow top will turn it. Almost into a yeti. Not quite but good enough.
@wishingb58593 жыл бұрын
It always depends on what you are using a cooler for. With me, I got a cooler because we have had power outages that have lasted 10 days and an expensive cooler is already paid for the first time you don't have to throw out all of the food in the fridge. I also wanted it for long car trips. I have driven cross country 5 times and being able to really trust that the food will still be good at the end of a week is important. Also for longer camping trips. That versus people who just bought a cooler for drives to the beach. When I was younger, I always bought the cheap ones. But I have ended up buying multiple cheap ones and losing multiple refrigerator loads of food and at my age, I look back and would say to myself, "Get a good cooler the first time" It doesn't have to be a Yeti, but one that will hold ice for 10 days.
@rvninnorthcarolina33776 жыл бұрын
Never personally owned a Yeti cooler. I have friends who have them and they swear they can go a week without loosing ice. Of course...IT ALL DEPENDS on how often you access the cooler though. If you have beer in the cooler the ice wont last because it will be opened constantly until the beer is gone...then you have to add beer, etc. If you put vitamin water in it, it will never be opened and it will last much longer...regardless of the cooler brand ------

The obvious test is to determine how long each will keep the inside to 40 deg F. Then, you decide which is more economical for your use. I suggest the most cost efficient solution is have a smaller cooler inside a larger cooler. Insert additional foam insulation between the two. Now, you have more than double the insulation which will keep your inside temperature to 40 deg F much much longer.

Yeti is for people who want others to know they have money to burn. It has more plastic. Plastic is incredibly cheap. The price is an insult.....but if they can fool people into paying it, well, there's one born every minute. I have been using a Rubbermaid cooler for my lunches at work for 25 years. I can put warm cans of water in it with an ice pack and about 45 minutes later it's like it came out of the fridge. It will keep ice for a couple days, sometimes 3 days. I paid $14 for it 25 years ago. If there are more people who will pay that kind of money for cheap plastic and insulation.....I am in the wrong business. The profit margin is astounding!I also have a couple large Igloo coolers for fishing trips. They are very large coolers, and I paid maybe $35 for each of them. They will keep fish packed in ice for a couple days. Don't need to pay "too much" to get what I need. People have to realize a lot of brands are this way......not really different for the amount of price they have.

I have to disagree, the quality of a yeti out performs any of the other manufactures on the market. My yeti cup can simply keep ice drink cold for up to 24 hours with no problems. PS there is no plastic in my cup. I would pay more for a quality coole r but not that much, I'll wait for prices to come down.

My igloo cooler keeps ice and fish for over 2 nights, and there is still ice. That is a BIG cooler and it cost only about $45. My Rubbermaid that I've used for lunch for 25 years easily keeps things cold for over 24 hours. It cost about $14 then, about $18 - $20 now. I can drop it off the back of my truck fully loaded and it won’t crack or open. This is cooler to keep. Those $50 you will most likely replace every year due to them breaking where as the yeti will last much longer. Mine are going on 5 years now. In Texas summer only 4 days on my yeti 45, 5 days on my grizzly 65 also roto molded, little over a day on my Coleman 50 and 1 to 2 days on my rtic soft sided. I use all of them when I'm camping. I'm thinking of getting a yeti hopper just for the he'll of it. Get what works for you. If your camping tips don't last longer then 2 days then you really don't need a roto m older cooler but they are nice.

I’m a contractor in Florida and my yeti keeps the same ice for 3-4 days of drinks for me and my guys in 100 degree weather. Never had any other cooler make it past lunch on those sweltering days unless I did a 3/1 ice to drink ratio which just made us refill it more and melt the ice faster. Plus with the yeti ice packs and our freezer making some ice as well I haven’t had to buy ice in years now. I think $400 Is a little steep but it’s certainly worth $250-300 based on performance and durability alone

I eventually bought a pelican and it paid for itself a few times over with how much money I saved on not buying ice. I went from buying 12 to 16 bags of ice depending on how much I was in the semi down to 3 or 4 bags of ice per month. If you'll use it alot it's well worth the money. Also... Pelican coolers are considerably better than yeti and cheaper prices. Better locks, bear proof instead of bear resistant and holds ice for 10 days opposed to the yeti that holds it for 7.

I own Yeti , and 4 ( similar quality style coolers ) and they all hold ice well . The only way for theses type of coolers to be worth it ( for the consumer ) is if you do outdoor activities often and for days , where ice is scarce . If your a weekender or periodic camper , go for the cheaper coolers they’ll serv you just fine … The secrete to keeping ice longer in any cooler , is keeping them covered and in shade (away from direct sunlight) A simple movers quilt over a 20.00 igloo will double its ice retention… 👍🏼👍🏼

The durability and the ability to keep whatever cold for more than a day in crazy temperatures is why the yeti is worth it. Fun fact: The air in the top of the cheaper cooler is also a really good insulation as the specific heat capacity of air isnt great. another prime example on that is snow that falls and doesn't stay on the ground because it melts that happens due to the air not transporting the warmer tempratures before it touches the ground.

Their accessories meet the demand for fishermen, campers, hunters, and all outdoor enthusiasts. Latches and handles are amazing and everything is stainless steel. The engineers at Kong really thought through everything before making those things. Oh, they’re also made in USA and are bear proof.

I would not spend the extra money on a Yeti...because...you can buy the same cooler at Walmart under their store brand for less than $100. I have worked at a lot of factories in my lifetime, and I guarantee you that the Yeti cooler and the cheaper off brand coolers are mad in the EXACT same factory. The only difference is the logo and stuff that gets put on each. There is no "Yeti" factory making only Yeti coolers. They ALL come from the same factory, made the same way, just with different logos.

I drive truck and see a number of trucks that have a Yeti secured to the catwalk behind the cab. Something facing that abuse needs to be solid and robust. Me, I have a cooler sized (65 qt) portable freezer/refrigerator in my truck that runs on either 12vdc or 120vac and adjusts from -6° to 50° and uses very little power..... and no ice. Cost me about $600 but has saved me more than that in bags of ice over the last two years.

buy the cheap one with a can of spray foam. cut hole inside of the lid and fill it with foam.....seal it and you have a insulated lid on a $50 cooler that functions similarly to one 6x+ the cost.

I'll stick with the cooler that I jacked from my parents that they bought in the 90's. It works just fine.

My parents brought one to my house years ago and I still have and use it for work. Never bought a cooler in my life.

If I gotta spend $400.00 for a cooler to protect a $5.00 sandwich from a bear, I'd need my head examined. I have yeti to buy a Yeti.

Most state parks do not let you have coolers unless they are bear proof.

It’s actually to protect the bears. Once they get food from human areas they keep coming back and get more aggressive, it’s they’re style of foraging. So most bears that succeed get put down immediately. It’s like once an animal taste human blood kinda thing.

@@donjuandemarco4115 I also figured if it was used for camping and everyone took a hike or something then the beat couldnt get at the food
