Oh my goodness, I had not even thought about Rosh Hashanah being near yet. September is chock-a-block with holidays beginning to end. LOL. I love grape leaves, too. It is interesting for me to see that, though I do not keep kosher and cannot imagine doing so, I could eat very happily in your home because what you choose looks healthy, fresh and is all to my taste. You are wise to shop for the week or any holidays within it, so as not to have a lot of food waste and little clutter. I like that you have the intention of keeping kosher along with a relaxed attitude toward the complexities of modern life and pressing food concerns.

Kosher meat is the most humane way of slaughtering an animal. They aren’t to feel any pain . I encourage you to fully keep kosher , it’s so special for you and your family . Kol Tov ! Chana
@MyJewishMommyLife3 жыл бұрын
I wish that were the case as that was the intention behind kashrut but unfortunately there have a lot of investigations and it’s been shown many of the “kosher” slaughter houses are committing horrific abuse. That being said that’s not the case for all of them by any means and I’ve heard such good things about Grow and Behold!
@chanah71623 жыл бұрын
@@MyJewishMommyLife according to Jewish law (Halacha) the blade for slaughtering needs to be so sharp that it cuts the throat in one swipe . The animals do nothing feel any pain. If you compare this to other ways of slaughtering where they squeeze the animal or take many attempts to slaughter it is the most human option. I would choose a good hecksher on meat in order to make sure that it was done in the most kosher way .

A rabbi prays over the meat in a kosher slaughter house. Then they pray with the truck driver that picks it up to deliver it to stores. That is literally the only difference between kosher and non-kosher foods.

Can you explain why eating pork is forbidden and why meat and dairy must be separated, even in cooking. Thank you
@VeronicaBoyer3 жыл бұрын
Kosher meat from mammals has to come from an animal that chews cud and has split hooves. Pigs have split hooves, but don't chew cud. As for meat and dairy needing to be separated, there is a prohibition of cooking an animal in its mother's milk.
@lindseyadams28413 жыл бұрын
I was very surprised that you keep the cold meats and cheeses separated in the refrigerator, Marion! I have never heard of keeping them separate in the fridge, although I imagined many stricter Jewish families probably do, or may even have separate meat and dairy fridges entirely. I did not think this was the halacha though (because the fridge is cold)?
@alizahalon2 жыл бұрын
Hi. You are correct. Meat and dairy products do not necessarily have to be kept separately in the refrigerator because they are cold. It is a good practice though because when you take cheese or cold cuts out of the package, the grease ends up on your hands and then on the outside of the package. We need to make sure to keep our hands clean when we go from meat to dairy and vice versa. The other problems that can arise are spillage if something is very full, or if you want to put food away that's not completely cooled off. We don't want meat and dairy next to each other in that situation either. I think that the average Jewish woman thinks about these things even more than the Rabbis because she is a homemaker- hands on in her kitchen and sees what can happen. Most people though do not have separate refrigerators. They don't have the room or the money. We can keep a very kosher kitchen with one refrigerator.

I am not Jewish but have a number of Jewish friends that I have celebrated many different holidays with-One friend came to my house with her kids and we made Christmas Cookies which I also made my own cutter for her in the Star of David and then my kids and I would go to her house and make Latkes and the kids played Dreidel! It was wonderful sharing customs and stories. I've seen some videos with the double kitchens with extra freezer and some where Parve isn't as 'free' in yours. I LOVE your term 'our kosher style'! One I saw, just looking at all this woman had seperated made me exhausted by the end of the video. Even though she said glass storage containers were parve she still had a set for dairy and one for meat. I like your style. There is the letter of the law and the spirit of the law and you have chosen the spirit of the law to work with your family and I am sure you are less stressed! Nice Video.

Thank you for sharing! I always find this interesting, educational and also entertaining if I can say that. I mean it in a good way, just to be clear about that. Some thing I always wondering about is how you do it practically. I have tried to google, and I know I asked on your wedding video how you did it in your wedding, if I remember correctly was your answer then that it was a dairy free wedding, to keep it kosher. But in every day life, do you have a system, like most breakfast are meat free, but dinners are not? I know you said in the video here that you go for meat substitutes for dinner many times, and add cheese too it, so not what my example was over here. When I google I find all the rules, what is kosher, what is not, not to mix meat and dairy and so on, but the practical every day is hard to find. I know when you grow up with it you may not even think about these things, but I find it interesting, so I hope it is okay that I ask 😊 I am Norwegian and bread for several meals are very common. Yoghurt, and oatmeal too. Eggs and bacon maybe in the weekend. I am vegan so I don’t eat eggs and bacon. For me I try to think more about having something with a high amount of vitamin C with my grains, like oatmeal, for better iron upsurgen. I have heard about vegan Jews, I did follow some earlier, but I don’t think they upload anymore, but I think maybe that is an “easier” way to have a kosher diet, but I may be wrong here, and don’t think about something? Just to be clear: I am not a “vegan missionary”, you do you, and I do me, no problem 💕 I do love though that you tried to find better quality meat, that is being raised better, and that you use meat substitute. I think with more people going vegan it has become easier to find more kosher friendly products, and I am glad that Jews help with keeping up the demand of those products, even though they don’t are vegans 🥰 Here in Norway most Jews are centered around the few synagogues we have. I think we only have two, and far away from where I live. Thank you again! Love from Johanne, Norway

Great video. Thanks for letting us into your refrigerator. I understand the idea behind what you say that if it is vegan food, then it does not have to have a kosher certification, and you are just assuming that it is probably all kosher ingredients. But I do not understand how you can eat organic meat that does not have kosher certification, when you know definitively that it was not slaughtered the kosher way, which renders it non-kosher, and you make all of your utensils treif.
