Thank you! I just started a job building these transformers. I do the internal winding. It was very helpful to see the finished product as everything else is built on another site.

Hi Case, is there a way you can share any single-phase pole mounted transformer drawings? I will troubleshoot a feeder from this transformer that has a voltage drop.

I've known about transformers since I was a small boy with a toy electric train. And, living in a rural setting, I've been curious about pole transformers and what was inside. They come in so many sizes, from small, residential, to huge sub-station units.
@darknes7800 Жыл бұрын
A couple of factoids that many people dont know.......The high voltage wire which runs from the overhead line, into the primary coil....exists the primary coil and runs down the power poll into the ground!!!!!!!!!!!! and there is no direct connection between the primary coil and the secondary coil. The step down voltage is achieved by the number of windings and by induction through the steel core. Cool stuff!~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Would you please help me out with a drawing or diagram? or maybe a clip that shows what's inside the transformer

Very interesting how one thin wire goes in at the top and three thick wires come out at the side..
@imadewn4 жыл бұрын
Max current which enters the top is around 4A, max current exit the side terminals is around 216A.

@@imadewn the primary feed is between 15-20Kv AC @ 4A pull and stepping up the current output around 216A with 120V between A-B C-B 240V between A-C? secondary outputs?
@imadewn3 жыл бұрын
@@TheTheo58 the primary feed is 11,5kV pulls around 4,3Amps (11,5kV x 4,3 = 50kVA). the output is 108A for terminal X1 and X2 (Return), 108A for X4 and X3 (Return) terminal. both X2 and X3 are bolted together to ground.

It's not explained here to you yet, but the role of a transformer usually is to change voltage. Voltage and amperage are indirectly proportional. High voltage comes in with a relatively low amperage. Lower voltage goes out but with a proportional increase in available amperage. The total power going in and going out is the same. The reason high voltages are used, especially in distribution, is that the lower amperage allows much smaller cables to be used.

I'm curious, in places that base their rules on IEC standards or BST standards what is the tap limit for service transformers? In the US it's six for utility owned transformers, and ONE for the same exact transformer if it's customer owned.
@imadewn2 жыл бұрын
In indonesia, the limit is 5 as far as i know for pole distribution transformer

Which country is this in? Your transformer has just one high voltage input terminal, so surely the other end of the primary winding must go to earth. But they're not like that here in the UK, at least not any of those I've seen, here the primary winding is connected to the high voltage supply lines at both ends with the required potential difference between them, and one secondary connection goes to earth to protect the consumers in the unlikely event of interwinding insulation failure.

I take it you applied lots releasing spray like WD-40 or something similar to those nuts before filming.

What are the bushing purpose. Allow voltage bleed or suppress it. Suppress the bleed, well allow dissipation without Corona arcing???
@jovetj2 жыл бұрын
The bushings allow a long-distance separation of the high voltage from the grounded can. The ribs on the bushing increase the surface distance greatly.

Hello! Sir, I'm a new subscriber, I'm just asking, what is the use of oil inside the transformer?
@imadewn2 жыл бұрын
There's 2 kind of oil inside distribution transformer: PCB on the old one, and Mineral oil on the new one..which is in this transformer
@digztv-1432 жыл бұрын
Thank Sir for the info
@jovetj2 жыл бұрын
The oil increases the insulation of the live components and the grounded metal can, and it also acts as a heat sink to allow heat from the live components to radiate to the can where it can be cooled by the surrounding air.

The transformer looks old asf. It might contain pcb’s
@cerij4242 Жыл бұрын
The coolant is just mineral oil, pcb's were in mining type transformers as it was non flammable it was called pyroclor and it was banned in the 80s-90s. Most transformers containing it were changed to mineral oil after de-contamination.
