And you got to be careful because they might also charge you if they see you took any from the cabinets, fridges, stands, etc. "I'm parched, guess I'll take a water from the mini fridge...why was I charged $10 on my card?" Unless you know for certain its actually complimentary on the house, never touch shit man.

Whenever I've been in Japan and stayed in a little bit nicer hotels the stuff in the pantry/mini-fridge is free, in fact they kinda expect you to take it. The one time I stayed in a really nice hotel they even had a full liquor cabinet of really nice whisky, sake, wine and stuff like that. No charge.

@@gundalfthelost1624 Japan is generally really nice in terms of service when traveling (also, people there are SO fucking polite and have amazing work ethic - and I say that being from a country that in of itself is already known for its politeness and work ethic, namely Switzerland). Then again, it's also not exactly cheap. But I think it's much preferable to get told a high price, you accept it, you pay it and that's it than to get told a low price and scammed afterwards. Even if it's the same cost in the end, the former is just more calming and less scummy. For me, the worst thing was traveling through the middle east (the safe parts, I've been to Iran, Egypt, Saudi Arabia etc.), you were treated with this kind of fake-nicety and constantly had to barter not to get scammed, it was an extremely stressful experience. The far east (China, Taiwan, SK and especially Japan) were so much better in that regard, holy shit.

Not to be mean, but that's really not that great of a feat. With a bit of work, you can easily learn all Hiragana and Katakana in a week, it's learning Kanji that's an actual bitch (thankfully, I already know a lot of Chinese and therefore have a really easy time with Kanji myself, lol).
