The first thing I was told as an apprentice, was to not spent money on tools that you see other's with. It's like keeping up with the Jones' and it's not gonna help with the budget starting out. Buy the basics and work with what you got and when you get more knowledge and time under your belt, then the money grows, then and only then, buy the more "worthy" tools.

Hey brother congrats on 6 months in ! Im glad there’s new people getting into the trade . I’ve been doing this for 3 years. I’m an automation tech , I’ve been doing industrial automation/ electrical since I started back as an automation apprentice. I’m getting more into the electrical side from underground all the way to panel , breaker , main disconnect installs it’s awesome! I love it ! 1 thing I can tell you if your willing to get some is a pack of insulated screwdrivers . Klein has a 6 pack for $ 30-35 if it’s in your budget . Theres Philips , flatheads , and square screwdrivers . I’ve had a couple of times where we were working and someone turned on power or someone was back feeding into the motor panels. Stay humble and keep at it !

Before jumping into the M18 line, consider the M12. For most things it is powerful enough and it is so much lighter and more compact. Only problem would be tool options, as maybe you need something that they do not offer. But for a drill+driver+sawsall+bandsaw+cut-off tool they have you covered
@TheApprenticeToJourneyman11 ай бұрын
Thanks Victor, I’ve heard and done some research and the M12 doesn’t sound bad at all, Most people tell me to get the m18 because it’s stronger.. But I’m leaning towards the M12 we’ll see what happens for Christmas! Thanks again for the support & Merry Christmas!🙏🏽
@VictorGarciaR11 ай бұрын
@@TheApprenticeToJourneyman Merry Christmas and thanks for the reply. I got into the m12 line because I found a second-hand drill for cheap. And I loved it from that moment. Maybe a truck mechanic needs the extra power that comes with 20 volt tools like the m18, but for most scenarios the m12 wins due to size and weight. Instead of 2 tools (like your ryobi drill+driver) you can pack 3 in the same space. Who recommended M18? With due respect, but in the last years lithium batteries have improved a lot. Maybe they are 15 to 25 years older than you, and back in the day 12v was underpowered. But I have seen m12 impacts removing lug nuts!

i think the vast majority or tools have a usable service life, after which they need to be replaced anyway. buying really fancy tools is cool and all, but don't think that just because you paid $100 for some pliers means that they'll magically last forever. also, getting all mid-range tools at the start is probably the BEST idea because after you use them for a while, you WILL notice a FEW tools that burn out faster than the rest. and then, you know that those few tools that burned out could probably be replaced by a higher tier set. in my opinion, the bags, tool boxes and organizers you use to store your tools might be a good place to invest in. if one tool fails, it's probably not the end of the world. if your primary tool bag that holds most of your tools you're using for that day fails.......... that's probably going to make the rest that day not so fun. IMO, you're starting with a pretty decent set!

Be sure and put some type of tracking devices s much as you can on your tools. At least the more expensive tools. I have my truck stolen a few years ago and they took my pouch which was 20 years old at least. It was older but it was broken in to it fit all of my tools just right. It took years to get it that way. Now I have a new Klein leather pouch and it is not broken in so getting the tools in and out take a lot of effort. You are right when you say it will take time. Remember that with the electrical industry. Time and experience are your best teachers.
