📼Video Summary:
The Space Needle is located in Seattle Washington. It was built in 1962 just in time for the World's Fair. The top looks like a Flying Saucer and is meant to inspire people to look towards the future. The Space Needle is an icon to Seattle just as the Eiffel Tower is to Paris, France. Around the Space Needle there is plenty to see and do as well. The bottom of the building has a large spiral ramp that tourists get to climb on their way towards the elevators. The top of tower has the observation level with an outdoor deck, a service level, and The Loupe which features a revolving glass floor. The center of the tower has supports for the 3 elevators and the stairs which are mostly used for emergencies. The Skyline level is for private events at the Space Needle.

Born and raised here. Very good job animating the needle. I am glad you put something in there about the restaurants and the stair climbs. I am not old enough to know what was up there in the seventies and early eighties but you got the nineties through now pretty good. One major missing thing that could have been well animated is the decorations they put up on the ceiling of the needle for all the helicopters and such. It's been all sorts of things. Great work tho. I remember my family visiting there in 1980. A little different at the time, we enjoyed dinner at the top of the needle, I remember being fascinated by the fact that the whole restaurant was slowly spinning, as I looked down I could see the bright lights of a Kiss concert in some stadium at the time. Star Trek the motion picture had just been released and they had mannequins decked out in star trek gear I thought was cool as an 11 yr old....great memories....

I did have a chance to dine there when they had the revolving restaurant at the top. The food was super expensive, and not particularly great. However, the experience was well worth it. One of my favorite things was kids putting cards/papers on the stationary ridge - as the restaurant revolved, people would take the card when it got to their table and write down where they traveled from to get there and maybe a short comment, then replace it on the sill. By the time it got back to the original kid/person, there would be a bunch of signatures and messages from much of the restaurant - representing travelers from around the world. A great tradition and fine souvenir of the experience. Iconic structure

And yet there are towers much taller than this one with glass floors. Also, the Grand Canyon has the highest glass floor at 4000 feet (1219 m) above the bottom of the canyon. That's 8 times as high as the Space Needle's glass floor.

Great video. I was seven years old when I visited the Worlds Fair in 1962. I lived in Oregon so it seemed like an all day trip to get to Seattle.. The Monorail was cool but it was the Space Needle I loved the most. It really did seem like I was in outer space. As a very special treat in 1970 I ate in the restaurant and was shocked at the prices. Coffee was 50 cents while most restaurants were only charging a dime. My coke was a dollar. But it was the view I was there for. The tables moved around so the view was ever changing. In 2000 I ate dinner in the CN tower in Toronto which is a much taller tower. The Toronto Blue Jays were playing a game near the base of the tower so we could see the tiny looking players. Great memories.

I dined in that restaurant in the Spring of 1968 as a kid. Remarkably, my parents got to have a family lunch there without prior reservations. The vivid memory of the rotating restaurant was the view of the plentiful brick buildings in Seattle. My dad said the view was similar of what existed in East Coast (US) cities of that era. The other memory was at the ground floor of the Space Needle, with the gigantic sized bolts and nuts seen as foundation anchors for the tower. My older brother questioned about the size of the wrench it took to tighten the nuts to the bolts.

Can confirm this from memory that goes back to the fair. FWIW, although there were lots of people in the queue to go up, it wasn't a "long" queue. It was in an area surrounded by ahandrail, only about 20x20 feet in size. The handrail guided the people back and forth, so that the "line" actually folded over on itself several times. I thought it was a pretty clever and simple solution. For the queue at the Science Center, the buildings surrounded a large shallow pool. There were several islands in the pool, and groups of people would occupy each island. As one group reached the entrance to the first building, they would empty off the island, then the next group would step onto it. The line moved by groups of people, rather than individuals.

It would be risky. Such renovation has to be done carefully. Since it's glass, building would be impossible unless you stand on the outer ring. Even if they can make a restaurant, it will be rotating. And some food or stuff will be rolling around. And people from the outside won't have the ability to go in because it rotates. And since it is built on the glass floor, it has a likelihood of shattering. And that could cause injuries

Makes me think of a new Where In the World is Carmen Sandiego episode "Space Needle Lost Out Seattle" Lynne Thigpen: The Space Needle is an observation tower in Seattle, Washington, United States. Considered to be an icon of the city, it has been designated a Seattle landmark. Located in the Lower Queen Anne neighborhood, built in the Seattle Center for the 1962 World's Fair, which drew over 2.3 million visitors. The Space Needle is the tallest structure west of the Mississippi River, standing at 605 ft (184 m). The tower is 138 ft (42 m) wide, weighs 9,550 short tons (8,660 metric tons), built to withstand winds of up to 200 mph (320 km/h) and earthquakes of up to 9.0 magnitude, as strong as the 1700 Cascadia earthquake. The Space Needle features an observation deck 520 ft (160 m) above ground, providing views of the downtown Seattle skyline, the Olympic and Cascade Mountains, Mount Rainier, Mount Baker, Elliott Bay, and various islands in Puget Sound. Visitors can reach the top of the Space Needle by elevators, which take 41 seconds. On April 19, 1999, the city's Landmarks Preservation Board designated the tower a historic landmark. However, that changed all that when Kneemoi flew over Seattle, targets the Space Needle, zaps with her tractor beam and flies away. What would Seattle be like without the Space Needle? Your mission gumshoes, round up Kneemoi behind bars, return the Space Needle to Seattle, then bring Carmen Sandiego to justice. I made this as an example.

Visited the Space Needle in 1962 when I was 10 years old. All I remember of our Worlds Fair trip was it rained the whole time. We ended up staying on a luxury cruize ship(Oceanliner in those days)and the Space Needle was the tallest thing around. It was pretty cool going up in it and watching the gray city as you rotated 360°. Decades later I recently drove a load north of Seattle. I couldn't believe how small it is now compared to all the taller structures around it. Kinda sad in a way. Back then it defined the skyline of Seattle, now you have to look hard to find it.

What i find to be unusual that the tallest building in Wichita and in the state of Kansas seems bigger to me than what it was as a kid. It is around 387 feet tall to the highest point on the roof. It has 22-24 floors so the floors are higher to the ceiling than average.

Originally, there was a restaurant in the top area where the floor rotated. After the fair, it was presented as a major Seattle dining event. You could sit in luxury, have dinner, and ride the whole rotation once in about an hour. Over the years, the restaurant got a deserved reputation as being a great visual experience for your visiting guests, but with second rate food and high prices. I did the whole thing about 1970. The viewing experience during dinner masked the pedestrian quality of the food. A great memory.

In culinary school in the 80s it was touted as being a very good restaurant to work. I never ate there because of costs. I’ve never heard it was not good I don’t think. I grew up in Seattle so I visited the Needle often, having had a gf who worked there for a time. I can’t recall if I’ve been up there since 2000, but I do recall visiting Seattle and learning it was closed about 5yrs ago.
