I’m in the US, but I still love these videos!! I trace my PDFs. I’m thinking of tracing my big four patterns. I don’t actually cut them up. I snip in to my side cutting line and fold the excess over before cutting to preserve the larger sizes. I do this because my size has fluctuated over the years. I’ve done it so much it is second nature to me and is much quicker than tracing.

I used to cut out patterns, but having wrecked a couple of patterns by cutting out the wrong size or failing to grade out at the hips or move a dart or whatever, I am firmly in team Trace. I often tweak patterns for fit or stylistic purposes, and tracing them means I don't ruin the original. I can also cut out a different size if I want to sew for someone else. Yes, it's an extra step, but totally worth it in my view.

I have that 8924. I’ve made the jacket and hacked it into a lined coat with snaps, pockets and tie belt. The overshirt comes up short and big! The under tunic is big as well. I haven’t made the pants. I’ve relegated the overshirt to a pajama top and reused the material from the tunic. My coat is awesome and I wear it all the time! I cut out my patterns. I cut them according to FINISHED garment sizes and that seems to get me a more fitted item. Once I make them, if I’m not too keen, I hack them into something else.

I’m a tracer of patterns too, but love when pdf’s give you the layers option so you can just print your size. I only buy the magazines if I definitely see a pattern I want included, so thank you for doing these reviews 👍🏻

Always find these so interesting as there’s such a variation amongst even the same magazines with regards to the included patterns. And…BANG! You got bangs, looks GREAT!

I am waiting for my Simply Sewing magazine to arrive, which will be in around 3 weeks....... 😴 and I am a tracer! I am always for safety and I prefer my tracing paper. Also I find tracing quite relaxing and enjoyable!
