This is definitely the most profound and most interesting video on this channel. I was 19 the first time I came to Taiwan but I often wondered about this kind of case.

Super interesting! I'm Taiwanese and born/raised in New Zealand and always wondered what it would be like to be in the reverse situation.
The interviewer, Jay, did a great job with open-ended questions. You could be a successful diplomat or communication professional. Keep up the good work, Jay Chen.

Thanks for raising awareness to the citizen issue for "foreigners" in Taiwan. Even those born and raised in Taiwan for 25 years (to foreign parents) are still denied citizenship. Why? 感謝您提高對台灣「外國人」公民問題的認識。 即使是那些在台灣出生並長大25年(父母為外國人)的人仍然無法獲得公民身份。 為什麼?

My pleasure. I wish I could open a door to everyone to discuss about it
why not? No offense but making babies born from foreigner parents has the potential to change Taiwan's demographics. This isn't America or the West. We are a homogenous nation with a homogenous culture and many of us would like it to stay that way. We see the US from the outside and its "diversity" is causing a lot of racial tensions and racial problems across EVERY single sector. We do not want that kind of chaos and division here.

I mean why should birth of place determine your nationality? This is normal in America but should it be normal for the rest of the world? If you really want to stay in Taiwan, for example, you can always apply for citizenship.

Under your logic; unless you are aboriginal, technically you are also an immigrant to Taiwan 按照你的邏輯; 除非你是原住民,嚴格來說你也是台灣的移民@@rabbitazteca23

Cool video. 很酷😎。Good on you Andy. I guess you can speak 5 languages. I also moved to Taiwan in 1997 but only lasted five years before I got really depressed and had to return to 澳大利亞。

Got bored as a white guy living in Taiwan???unheard of. As you guys always got specially better treatments than us (Taiwanese looking). I am an expat Taiwanese, studied in Sydney university for MBA back in 1991. I really miss Sydney a lot. The longer I live in Europe,UK, the more I like Taiwan. Taiwan has progressed so much now especially my beloved city Kaohsiung. It is so modern, clean, so convinient,so safe in compared to Europe. And being none white, all I got is not coz I look more exotic, 而是許許多多的種族歧視!at work and daily life!! Are you based in Sydn
I feel like for me (born in Taiwan to Taiwanese parents but grew up overseas), when I go to Taiwan, initially I get treated the same since I'm biologically Taiwanese but once I speak Chinese they can tell I grew up overseas and i get treated differently.
Without a doubt born and bred in Taiwan. Love hearing the Taiwanese accent from a non-Asian face.

He experienced my experience being a Chinese born in Taiwan and grew up in the US. I can sympathize with him on the teasing and making fun of me due to my looks. Except, I don't get the "white privilege." Most Asians are being looked down upon and made fun of my language. This was more than 25 years ago, and now is different. In other words, what he experienced is quite universal.
