I can relate to Kerri-Ann M. Smith's journey having some partial roots to Savanna-La_Mar, aka Sav, and her high school Mannings. In my teen years to young adulthood, the late 60s to 80s my father lived in Sav and was the Collector of Taxes for Westmoreland, and I visited Sav a lot. Going to Rusea's High School, Mannings were our fierce rivals, especially during DaCosta football season. I even technically lived in Llandilo at some point in my life.

Lived in Laurelton, Queens for 15 glorious years, if Brooklyn is Kingston 21, Laurelton, Cambria Heights, Rosedale and Springfield Gardens is Kingston 22. Didn't miss a beat from Jamaica, 4 blocks away on Merrick Blvd, you could get your Roast Yam, Roast Breadfruit, Ackee n Saltfish, Patty and the list goes on. Nearly every other house on our Street was Jamaican, my Mom used to throw her Pardna, and we would ccok and sell food, serve liquor, and play music right from our Basement, patronized by Jamaican locals in the community and even a strong group of Jamaicans who moved right to that area that we knew in London. Gil Bailey was a regular visitor and great influencer in the Jamaican community. Great Jamaican vibe, totally miss my time in New York. Big ups to the New York Community....to this day I don't know why I moved to Dallas !!!

Came to the Bronx from Portland, Jamaica at 8 yrs old in 1972. Its because of us earlier Jamaicans and even more so the drug trade wars of the mid- late 80s is why Kerri was protected in the 90s If she came in the 70s she would've had to actually fight or flight. Us earlier Jamaicans had to battle daily until we proved ourselves. And we never told our parents ANYTHING.

The way Jamaicans stopped in NYC first before they moved elsewhere, I'm sure 90% of the viewers can relate to this. 😊 Great interview!
