I have been to Malawi and enjoyed meeting local people. They are hard workers. The life there is hard. I was stunned to see the women collecting firewood for cooking in the Government land in the capital city every evening. The work is labour intensified. it's the love. if you love someone purely not just because skin color, wealth, appearance etc and truly felt it. these are going to be 0 problem. i happen to married an asian guy and i'm white slavic. i'm from russia, he's from singapore. totally different world and culture. so we both learning each other language, it's been 6 years and never once we have problem nor fight, because we knew what we're doing, and trust each other strongly. and before that i always dreamed about dating tall white guy with blue eyes that looks like these actors .. meh , but my heart can't lie. now i am with asian guy and will be forever with him :)

But, in Japan, I doubt they will endure out and out hostility like in some other Asian countries. Japanese are taught against racism in school and as Koga said, a lot is out of curiosity, not cruelty. Of course, it’s natural to be curious about people you don’t see often where you live but that doesn’t mean you should be rude and denigrating to them - from what I know of Japan and my visits, this is not true of their culture. Fights in school happen but Leon seems to like his school and made friends. I really think as an African raised boy, he’d have more problems in American schools and society. He’s a very bright boy and handles himself well being polite with adults.

Kids can learn languages very fast, since their brains are still like a sponge where they want to know new things. It is only when you become older that you struggle with new languages because you have a set mindset already and not always a willingness to learn new things. So it makes sense that Leon picked up Japanese relatively fast.
