I’m Korean-American and I’m so glad to see Korean men and Black women finding each other. I’ve always been attracted to Black women but none were really in my orbit and I also didn’t think they were attracted to Asian men. There’s a disconnect and I would love to see it get bridged.

Oh wow!! You should definitely approach any black women you may be interested in because most of us are pretty open to Asian men especially Korean men. I know my friends and I talk a lot about dating dating Korean men one day.

I’m finally open to dating Asian men. I’m from New York and the Asian men here don’t like black women at all. A lot run the nail salons, hair stores and Chinese restaurants and are so mean. I saw a small shift when my Asian eye doctor was super nice to me he was from around my generation so I think the young ones are a bit more open minded than the old ones who are mean. Also, when I stayed in Georgia for a bit the Asian men seemed a bit more kind.

This is my friend! I must say they both compliment each other so well, you can see how balanced they are as a couple. Janae has her vibracy and such a bubbly personality, where Won is calm and chill. Plus, both of them are two of the sweetest people I've ever met. Thank you for this interview, and for showing more people what international couples' thoughts and lifestyle can be like!

She’s so cute n bubbly. Interracial marriage is nothing new- just haven’t been publicized in past and even hidden. I’m always glad to see couples who are happily married regardless of their background. The hubby seems so cool. It takes a real man to want to get married, have a family and take responsibility. I would love to see their wedding photos. They seem happy together.

Interesting there are many secrets and story that are never told. I was always told my great grandmother was part Native American but my ancestry DNA said otherwise. It turns out that my dad’s lineage included African and Western European linage. My dad’s fair skinned cousin during 1940s 1950s in Northern Alabama USA was a barber cutting white peoples hair which was not typical or even allowed in the town he resided.

I like how there are more and more interviews of international couples in general and especially in homogeneous countries. That’s always interesting and for once they are not focused on the negative aspects of it. We’re all aware that they’re facing challenges so that’s refreshing to hear another point of view. And she looks really chill about it all and happy, good for them ^^ Great interview, thanks for your work!

At this stage in my life, all I want is for someone to treat me with love, loyalty, faithfulness, and respect. Something that I thought I had, but I was heartbreakingly wrong. My only top criterion that must be met is that he has to share my faith. You can't be happy if the person you're with does not walk the same path.

As someone who is in an international/cultural couple, I cannot stress enough how important it is and how blessed they are to have families who were accepting and open minded to their partners. My in-laws are fantastic, but I know so many interracial couples whose families are hostile and make the couples lives miserable and treat the grandkids as less than. I wish them a lot of success and happiness

Experienced my first break up and he’s Korean. I def think his side received so much commentary and influence, it just didn’t work out. But idk if that was a cultural issue as much as it was just him not having a mind of his own. It really is important to date someone who has an opened minded community around than. I’d suggest if folks date interracially, get to know their community before releasing your heart to them

So glad to see interracial couple relationships! I am black and my husband is Hispanic, we have been happily married for 20 years we have 2 kids and we just click! We are both American, but sometimes it is still surprising for others to recognize us as a couple. When we go into places together people are very accepting, but they always seem to take a minute to place us "together", it's usually, oh....you're with her?.. or vice versa. I always think we came in together and are talking to each other... so, yeah we're together, "this is my husband". I understand you may not know we're married, but clearly, we are friends. Anyway, I am glad that you both have found each other and you don't focus on the little things that can come about from being in a non-typical relationship, I grew in a black area and always thought I would marry a black person, but after joining the military, I dated many different races and I realized you connect with who you connect with. It could be "black-love" "white-love", "brown-love", or "mixed-love", lol.

There’s a lot I can say about this clip, but as an Afro-Asian myself I faced many obstacles of displacement in my early youth; especially, in my case where I couldn’t pass for being an African-American kid. My facial features and hair texture were completely east-Asian oriented. I’m NOT knocking interracial couples, but there’s a lot to be aware of nowadays. If a black or white-American marries one another that’s different because they both come from the same American language and culture, well, for the most part. But the cultural and language barriers between black America and Korea are quite steep, and it’s the same between my two racial halves. Racial displacement is a societal mishap my parents would never have thought of as they weren’t the identity-crisis generation. Nowadays, societal norms are much different, but I would definitely say that cultural or identity crisis is a societal trigger that this young couple in the video clip will have to be aware of when they decide to start a family. Identity crisis has so many byproducts that can cause deviations and troubles in any family. Many young couples will UNDERESTIMATE the foregoing principle I just stated because they’re from a generation that promotes-JUST BE WHO YOU ARE. Unfortunately, they can only wish that SOCIETY will make it that simple for them. But the bottom line is that once any man or woman pledges love and commitment in marriage, then their worst adversary will become SOCIETY, and that’s even when the couple are the same race and ethnic group.
@Msd4-13
@Msd4-13 Жыл бұрын
I’ve usually found that the kids with mothers that are black are usually more grounded and don’t suffer from identity crisis as much as kids with Asian or white mothers. I don’t feel like the language barrier is an issue with them, as they both spent time in America and he’s fluent in English. I do believe that she should continue and try her best to be fluent in Korean as it shows respect for her husbands culture and it’ll be great for when they have children.

Which parent is black? That makes a big difference..
@eagledescending5766
@eagledescending5766 Жыл бұрын
@@Msd4-13 I would be an exception to the default that you gave as far as having a more concrete identity; my mother is the black parent. Although, from my experiences, whether the mother or father was the non-black parent didn’t make much of a difference in my time and generation growing up. As I previously posted, I couldn’t pass for being an African-American kid, and as a result, in order to bond with the black youth in my time, there was one prerequisite that had to be met, and that is you had to look a certain way that resembled their facial features, if not that, then at a bare minimum you had to be absorbent to their sub-cultural climate; those were standards or qualities that I didn’t meet. As a result, an identity crisis was right up at my doorstep. I assure you that I wasn’t the only bi-racial in my time going through such regardless of who the non-black or black parent was. Overall, it depends on the bi-racial’s life circumstances because environment plays a big part in one’s life. As far as different languages, I agree with you that if both are willing to learn each other’s native languages or have knowledge thereof, then that should help to create an even balance in their union, although, it’s NOT a universal guarantee. But that’s NOT what I was implying. The language barriers between Asian and black communities are very STEEP. The two racial communities are obviously NOT going to exchange or share racial identities, and the language differences will MAKE SURE of that, so, that in itself can place an Afro-Asian in a predicament that he or she is NOT going to like as well as contribute to an identity crisis. Why? Because he or she would have no choice but to keep the two worlds separate and apart from one another; the only exception would be in-laws on both of their parental sides, and I assure you that I was no exception. If I had tried to link the two communities of both my racial halves, one would feel infringed upon the other, and it would have been-Game On!!! The whole point to my original post was that an identity crisis can possibly be the result of a hostile racial environment which happens to many bi-racials such as myself. Sure, the African-American lady in the video clip can learn her husband’s language, but would her racial community be as receptive?!!! Think about it because the mother’s racial community would still be a large part of the child’s life, and it could go either way of being receptive or hostile. This goes back to what I originally stated that when a man or woman pledges love and commitment to one another, the wiles of SOCIETY will find its way into their lives as an adversary. My original post was speaking from a COMMUNITY standpoint because that’s what makes up ENVIRONMENT and NOT from an individual basis that you were alluding to. When an interracial couple has a child, what kind of ENVIRONMENT will that bi-racial child inherit, especially with two of their racial halves that are POLAR OPPOSITES?!!! Hope this helps for a clearer understanding.

Nah I love that. It's not their fault they're not the ones that can have them, but I mean putting life in another person is pretty awesome when you think about it. But more on topic, I'm tired of hearing about the men that don't take care of their kids, but as their are many like that, there are just as many that want to sire a small nation lol. Some be wanting these bigass families with 7 kids running around and I'm like they better pop out twins n triplets or sum 😅 we finna pop out babies like how we like to carry groceries in the house

Im in a relationship with someone who i love deeply, but the difference between this couple and us is that my parents have deeply impacted our relationship in many ways. Seeing this makes me happy for them. I wish the challenges i still face didnt have to be. The generation of immigrants have sort of a lost time period, where the parents didnt get to learn or see the changes in the world that has lead to something like what the guys parents are, more open minded, versus koreans who immigrated to the US in the 70’s,80’s even 90’s. Id say most were more so of the mindset that isnt open minded, i mean that in the most complicated way. Its so difficult. Stubbornness is ah forget it. Bless these two. This vid is awesome❤

very eye-opening for me... this and the previous video with the firefighter couple... I always thought most of the Koreans were racist towards non-white, non-kyopo foreigners. It still may stand true, but it's really nice to know that I could be wrong.

I am a Boomer who started traveling about 40 years ago! It is delightful to see women of color out and about these days. Traveling being an African-American woman, I am accustomed to having people stare at me, wanting to touch my hair, or being surprised when I speak their language. It was a surprise when I realized that I felt safer and freer to be "me" abroad. I say "go folks"! Pursue your dreams, and be your best you! American racism/white supremacy/anti-black ideology is AMERICAN. In other cultures, you will learn what their color issues are and why. Yes, there is pain and oppression within other groups however, for POC/Americans it is a relief to leave the American racism behind. Peace

Anti-blackness is global. However, it might not cause us physical harm as a result in other countries. It ia also the only time Black Americans are treated as Americans.....and in many places that comes with the privilege of being treated with respect that we don't get at home.

This is a wonderful thing to see. I was brought up to not limit my options. I think times are changing and people are busting out of the box and not limiting themselves anymore. As long as you are loyal, loving, respectful, and treat me like the precious jewel that I am (Biblically), I will treat you and love you the exact same way. The problem is, being 58, those options don't seem to be very abundant in my age range. I don't see many older Korean men being interested in Black women. Plus, where I live, there aren't a lot of Korean men. I've been single for 10 years (married 22), and the circumstances by which I became single have scarred me. (HOWEVER, I'm not the type of person who writes off everyone because one person did me wrong). But, if I happened to be blessed with someone who has the qualities I'm looking for, Korean men are definitely a strong option for me. On the whole, I'm happy that we are finding each other. Who knows? Maybe my future true prince will be Korean. ♥
