the 98 limo i had, which i mentioned in the other video, i would actually get 20 to 21 mpg, which shocked me. but when you would have it full of people, you could tell you had the extra weight, you had to give it more gas to get it going, and start stopping sooner, and of course, the gas mileage drops, lol. parking can be tricky, like you said. and getting parts for them things are expensive. you have to get the heavy duty Deville parts for everything, and they prices are A LOT more expensive.
@Oklawolf2 жыл бұрын
For what it's worth, a photographer buddy of mine drove these DeVilles for years. They were always complaining about coolant level... common issue. Apparently they like to go through sensors.

As a former chauffeur driving a limo was awesome...I used to get 25 mpg from a lincoln town car limo...turning radius wasn't bad....you just have to use every inch available by turning the wheel first before you move

Congrats on the new house! Thanks also for being so honest about the Northstar engine. We had two vehicles with them. One was a Seville STS purchased new in 1993, and yes, the head bolts pulled loose at around 100k miles. It also was a repair nightmare, sending us back to the dealer every few months. The build quality on this Seville STS was marred by GM’s use of cheap failure-prone parts. We went through 3 automatic trunk closers, which always jammed in the partially open condition. If you tapped the HVAC controls too hard the buttons would pop-off and roll under the seats. The air conditioner suffered constant leaks, requiring numerous repairs, and the engine used a quart of its 8 quart oil capacity every 1000 miles, which GM said was normal. After a final breakdown wherein the flywheel physically separated from the engine due to poor factory welds, we sold the car at a significant loss, but with great stress relief. We later inherited a 2000 Coupe DeVille, which was equally failure prone, We. Sold that one within a few months, after several thousand dollars in repairs, and within a month, it left the new owner stranded, and he quickly re-sold the car. Both vehicles were very comfortable and road great, but GM’s poor build quality, use of cheaply built parts, faulty engine design, and failure to take responsibility for design errors ruined the overall ownership experience.

Always a ton of things going on man! Will be sad to leave the pool and that awesome yard, but far less upkeep at the new place, and a lot less neighbors! You made some major moves in the last 3 years I've been following you. That limo is awesome. Kids would love rolling up to daycare in that, HAH!
@Leon-uj7pc2 жыл бұрын
That is a good plan Randy. Buy them, Drive them, Enjoy them and then move them down the road to a new owner, cross it off your bucket list and get something else. The Northstar is not a bad engine, just one that a person needs to keep up with the maintenance.
@mahatma1712 жыл бұрын
The HD livery suspension doesn’t ride super harsh, but it does ride a bit firmer than a Deville sedan of the same era. The gearing and final drive is different as well. Yes they did have some issues still in ‘01 with the head bolts. They do good with maintenance. They also do good when you use all of the 275-300 horses from time to time. They like it.

Make sure any extra mortgage payments go to the principal and not the interest. Interest is front loaded. You pay interest first. Write two checks. One for the mortgage and one to go to the principal only.

Off topic question. Any car transporter you use to transport from IAA remote lots to a different state. Planning on purchasing a car in Detroit, want to get it to SE Wisconsin. And, it is a non-runner. Not even sure if it rolls. Need parts from it, so easier and cheaper to buy a whole car damaged in areas I don't care about.

I know it's a little bittersweet for you to leave this house, but the new place is yours, and your early payoff in 5 years is absolutely the best decision for you, and your family. You'll have pride of ownership in the new place and hopefully another adventure there, possibly building a better shop? (Driving back & forth to AAR HQ and maintaining 2 places has got to get stale after a while.) I think selling off AAR HQ and plowing the $$ into your mortgage could cut your timeline significantly. Maybe you could put in a pool at the new place too! All work and no play would make Randy a dull boy. 😉

@j.t.woodruff22012 жыл бұрын
Your best bet would probably be to shake loose of the limo. Since it is a 6 door funeral car it probably won't bring the kind of money you want. Plus the Northstar scares buyers. Could be good content, but, you're going to have to make an investment in some interior upgrades plus the opera lights which are cheap.

First, i've driven both Cadillac and Lincoln stretches and yes, the turning radius is bad on the Cadillac. Lincoln has a better turning radius. Secondly, 5500 as is IS a very fair price. I do hope you get that though. I personally enjoyed this content. Yours truly, Charlie the Limo guy.

The NorthStar is not scary, it was just an engineering blunder that screwed an otherwise good engine. I don't enjoy paying $4000-5000 to repair a 50k Mike engine...on two cars. Worst cars we ever owned for cost of ownership. My Acura cost me less than $500 of non-maintenance repair during 16 years and almost 300k miles.
