Same. My Black side of the family has never made me feel different or commented on me being mixed-race whereas my Korean family more often than not mentions me being mixed or American (for reasons we already know). And even though I moved to Korea get to know my family, I only ever see two of my cousins because no one is close (emotionally) out here even though we ALL live in the Seoul metropolitan area. Whereas back home, I'd see my family multiple times a week.

People who are in interracial relationships need to be more mindful when it comes to family issues and how that can affect the kids. If I end up having kids with a non black man I definitely would pick someone whose family is accepting and who my family accepts because it will make things easier for the kids. This also goes for mono racial couples tbh because I don't have a relationship with my dad's side of the family because they hate my mom for no reason. Shit is depressing and I imagine that it is 100 times worse when your mom or dad is of a different ethnicity. Keep doing you girl, its their loss because you seem like a really wonderful person to be around.

That’s not how life works though, who you fall in love with is who you fall in love with and sometimes families come around when grand babies arrive sometimes they don’t but why should people not love who their heart falls in love with cause families can’t except who they love cause their a different race, if we did that most of us would be lonely and miserable
@thudayoon99
@thudayoon99 Жыл бұрын
@@lovelydiva06 I see your point and that's true. Mostly, we can't choose who we fall in love with. And the heart is a powerful thing, but realistically speaking, when you marry someone you also marry their family. And, if there are irreconcilable differences the couple should talk and choose what they're going to do in this case. Whether, distance themselves from their families and live together or break up. Growing up, coming from a mixed family and a mixed country, I was very fortunate because no one in my family has ever talked about race or anything. Everyone was always super understanding, but also, in my country mixed families are more common.

@@lovelydiva06 5 years ago I would've agreed full heartedly with you but rn I'm of the stance that just cause you love someone doesn't mean your meant for each other. A disqualifying factor can also be family. Your children will have to live their entire lives around these people and this will affect your family for generations to come as they now become part of your lineage. It's extremely important to pick the right family.
@thefamousdjx

@@thudayoon99 Yep if the family isnt accepting then should distance yourself. What kind of family hates on little kids or who their son/daughter loves. Ofc sometimes the family might not like someone who isnt a good person, but if they are hating on your decent partner then thats not on

Me as a half Korean I can feel you. Same people also think I'm southeast Asian😂. But thankfully my mom side and dad side family both are really good to me. But I'm more open to my dad side. Born in korea but went to my dad country at the age of 7 and just came back to Korea last year. Now I'm completing my last year in Korean high school. Sometimes it's difficult for me to adjust in my school but our teachers are so cooperative. So for me as a half Korean living in Korea it's good experience for me. Never experienced anything bad.

Most Korean families nowadays aren't really into (extended) family stuff. Most don't get to see their extended family members for years on end. My girlfriend told me the same exact thing! Well you have to understand Korea historically was a very homogeneous people and having pure Korean blood line was always important in their culture. Most proper families know their ancestors up to 14 generations or more by memory... They know their history.... And historically so many other countries tried to conquer Korea so much that they learned to insulate themselves and depend and trust only themselves....thus they were known as the Hermit Kingdom. Korea never attacked a neighbor or tried to conquer other people and other land.... They were the ones always getting victimized. Nowadays it is changing and getting more multicultural but you can't compare to America where it literally is the land of immigrants. I'm sure people are the same way in more homogenous cultures. But I don't know if there are any countries with similar historical background as Korea.

I lived in S.Korea for two years. I enjoyed it, and the culture. Are there prejudice Korean, absolutely. But, in my experience, I can say the same of most cultures that I have come across. There are a lot of issues within my/the Black community as well. But I am thrilled to say, that for the most part, we are very inviting of other ethnicities when it comes to our circle. And, a lot of mixed offsprings (that are half Black) seem to gravitate to the Black-side. At least this is true for those older than 35. The new gen of 'mixed ethnicities' seem to have the option to choose both ethnicities (which is a good thing).
