After having a bunch of snakes and small lizards I thought I was ready for something bigger. I got a Savannah monitor and he is awesome. I thought that should be enough experience for a Nile...it wasn't...he is mean and literally wants to eat me...he went for my toes 2 days ago. I would not suggest a Nile Monitor to most people. They are so much harder than so many other monitor species

Definitely it does seem you have the experience for one just patience and keep working with them is really all you need besides space and etc..

Hun if you did really well with a Savannah Monitor you def could own a nile. Yes the size is different but you just gotta keep in mind that it's a friggin nile monitor haha. They are mean. A Savannah will do the exact same thing. While our pets are tame we just can't forget that they're dangerous as well as beautiful.

Why a sav after those animals they aren't enough experience 😭😭😭 do you have room for a 8x4x4 and for the Nile 11x5x5 !?!???! Get an ackie or smaller monitor first and do you have the right insectivorous duet for the sav!?!?!? 😭😭😭

@@monitorcrazy9410 um yeah actually I do...and I said my Sav is amazing...the Nile is the issue. And there is no reason 10 years of common reptiles isn't enough experience for a sav...

I love Niles. You are correct they are a lot of work but it's worth it. I'm on my third nile monitor. He was 5 maybe 6 in when got it. Meanest, ferocious and most temperamental little guy ever. He's 2 ft now. I've had alot of experience w these lizards and I 100 percent agree this is not a pet for the average pet owner. This is a serious reptile. Beautiful yet dangerous. Mine is Gojira.

It’s only expensive if you feed them every day. Only feed them at a maximum twice a week when they’re bigger. It causes issues when you feed them daily!

Agree feed Grizz like 2-3x now prices are high , so it can still be around 10-20 week depending on what you get if you buy in bulk at Asian market it’s little cheaper

Helpful tip to anyone that doesn't already know. You should never feed your snakes monitors or any other temperamental animals in the same cages that they are housed in. They should always be taken from their cage and put into a separate feeding cage. As time goes by they will become more docile, easier to handle and no longer associate food or feeding with their home habitat. Also this will make them more willing to come to you knowing that they're going to be fed. I have rescued many aggressive snakes over the years from negligent owners, and this is one of the key components to making them docile and easy to handle.

That’s not true I feed mines in his cage and outside , some people don’t have that privilege in doing that so they have to do what works for them , but it is a good tip still , but doesn’t mean it will work a Nile monitor or anything can still be aggressive out or in the cage

With Monitors, they enjoy the hunt. Letting them out and having them chase their food gives them enrichment. They enjoy the meal more because they earned it. I get where a snake guy would appreciate a separate feeding location. Snakes will strike at anything that moves including their human's hand if they are used to eating in their cage. When I had pythons, I would put them on the floor, offer the food, once they grabbed it, I would put them back in their cage to finish eating. I have always used pre killed so nothing got away.

Well I think the monitor and iguanas are the pitbull of the lizards but to be honest on my own experience both breeds are not aggressive with me well iguana but nile was a little harder but he has come around really good I can touch him when he eating but yet dont rub my smelly finger on his face bcz that like you really asking for a bite also respect them, i feel like when they small there too young to learn so I wait until there teens and work with them and actually works better theh not as aggressive as you think

It's not hard feeding Niles In my view either...I always rack up two sides of everything and that is two bags of shrimp,3 Carts of eggs,3 loads of chicken,5 bowls of chicken heart & 7 packs of frozen thawed mice and that whole total is between 30-40$ which is easy In my bucket list💯🗣️so yeah you definitely need to have experience with Niles and if you don't well let's just you entire the wrong whole of the book🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️

How bout a savanna monitor?

Savanna monitors are usually more docile and calm the only thing is that it can be easy to over feed and lead to more health issues because they aren’t as active as other monitors

Niles naturally grow up living with crocs and other larger predators, and have to stake their lives more often to stay alive, no wonder people have trouble trying to tame them lol

My favorite video footage of a Nile monitor in Africa: lions kill animal, monitor starts to eat the lions kill, when the lion tries to get her food back, she gets a tail upside the head. Adult monitors don't give AF. They are more careful and sneaky with crocs cause crocks don't give AF either.

Well hopefully this helps you make a decision , but sadly if you release it the chances of it surviving is low and might actually die , but it’s native to that environment and a haste to probably keep , so you can release it in a different area nearby to try and hopefully survive

Start with a big cage! You can crawl in and bond with him before he's big enough to hurt or kill you. Trust and bonding is important! A 6 foot lizard with claws and teeth can kill you, you definitely want to be his friend before he gets that big. These guys beat up lions in Africa, they are no joke.
