Jimmie Johnson has been very aggressive since becoming co-owner of Legacy Motor Club. Only time will tell if the switch to Toyota will pay off in the long run!

Here’s the way I see it: Jimmie Johnson did not betray Chevrolet. Chevrolet betrayed Jimmie Johnson. Jimmie Johnson gave Chevrolet 83 wins and 7 Cup Series Championships. No doubt he expected Chevrolet to support him as an owner. They haven’t. They only allow Legacy 20 minutes of sim time per week and share little to no information and tech because Legacy is a 4th tier team. With as much as Jimmie gave to Chevrolet, you’d expect Legacy to receive the same kind of manufacturer support they give to HMS and Trackhouse. Apparently not. I don’t blame him for leaving Chevy for Toyota.

I have a ton of mixed feelings about this whole ordeal. It sucks as a lifelong Jimmie fan that my hero will soon no longer be associated with Chevrolet. Jimmie has raced nothing but Chevys his entire career excluding the 2 years in IndyCar with Chip Ganassi and Honda, from the stadium truck series, to the ASA days, to the Busch series, and to the Cup Series. For many of us growing up, it was probably the only Jimmie Johnson we ever knew. To see him part of a manufacturer not named Chevy will feel like a cardinal sin. At the same time though, this I feel like is a move that had to be made. Legacy MC in their current state is already in a crowded Chevy lineup of entries, which is why they probably don't have the same resources compared to a top team like Hendrick, RCR, or Trackhouse. Since Legacy will become the third Toyota team, they could have better resources at their disposal, which in turn, could lead to better on-track performance. My only concern about this, however, is the longevity of the team itself. We've seen this story before with Furniture Row and Levaine Family Racing. Only time will tell if the results show or if Legacy will completely implode. What infuriates me is the reception people are making it out to be. Some are saying that Jimmie straight up "killed" the team with his aggressive changes with his ownership role, with some going as far as to no longer be Jimmie fans after many years of loyalty altogether just because he'll soon be associated with a foreign manufacturer. If that is your excuse, then you weren't a Jimmie fan to begin with. No matter what happens, i'm riding my horse with my hero until my last dying breath. 💙🤙

I can see it going 2 ways. 1. It ends up being a great move and LMC starts competing for wins and championships. Or 2. We end up having another Furniture Row or Levine Family Racing situation. Where they become a satellite team to JGR, win some races, only for the team to shut down because of Joe Gibbs being a piece of shit and raising the costs.

With Next Gen, NASCAR provides the chassis to every team. TRD provides the engines. All of Toyota would share information. Gibbs in my opinion won't have as much power as he used to. Legacy has its own pit crew already as well. They should be fine.

I think we will actually see JGR starting to become the weaker team in the Toyota stable. In fact, I think JGR will start cutting down cars to the point where they are a two car outfit again. FedEx isn't renewing Hamlin's sponsorship, so I could see him getting his charter from JGR moved over to 23XI as the third car for that team. Also, with Martin Truex not having much time left in his career, will Bass Pro stick around to back that ride or jump ship to another ride? The iron grip Joe Gibbs once had on Toyota I think has begun to weaken.

@@billsmith9737SHR switched at the right time for Ford but failed to capitalize on an extremely strong 2018 and a near-dominant 2020 when being a Chevy team would've been a significant determent. Plus, going to Ford let SHR get more factory support then the little they got from Chevrolet for what was at worst a lateral move in performance. That and since Harvick, the only championships were a somewhat fluke Elliott in 20 and an admittedly deserving Larson in 21. While (pending broken bones) a Hendrick championship seems inevitable this year, I don't think it's quite right to pin it on the manufacturer as it is Hendrick doing Hendrick things. In the case of GMS though, it's basically only up with them in doing a manufacturer switch. The only teams that seem to be beneath them in terms of support are maybe Live Fast and Rick Ware, and truth be told, I'm uncertain about that given how LiveFast/BJM has Alfredo in the Xfinity car and Ware can pull Ford Performance drivers onto their cars semi-regularly.

Whatever people think about Jimmie Johnson and Legacy Motor Club going to Toyota, this is on Chevrolet, I'm sorry, but it is! You have Jimmie Freaking Johnson as a part time driver and, more importantly, as an OWNER, and Chevrolet can't find a way to help make the team competitive and keep him?! This just wreaks of the Joe Gibbs and Kyle Busch situation from a year ago, except this is a manufacturer letting an owner and multiple drivers walk! Also one thing of note is that the Petty cars being linked to Toyota actually goes back even farther than just 2017. There were stories linking Richard Petty Motorsports to Toyota going back as far as 2009, not long after the merger between Petty Enterprises and Gillette-Evernham Racing. There was even a story where then driver Kasey Kane, showed up to a photo shoot and his number 9 Budwiser car had a Toyota body on it, instead of a Dodge. Pretty interesting story!

This is different, obviously, since he bought a stake of ownership instead of interviewing for a role, but I like that Jimmie wants to make changes that he feels the team needs, though my big worry now is that JGR will cannibalize them a few years down the road like they've done to every other Toyota team.

Look at what Petty has done over the years winning. That name should have been competitive every year but they have been in the wrong place for years. So, while this feels like a shock to many people, to me it kind of makes sense. For one thing, Legacy Motor Club have ambitions to become something more than just a group renting out an old shop on Richard Childress Racing's property while also using second-hand equipment from them, since Trackhouse Racing could be getting the best stuff from RCR. Also considering that Carvanna is turning out to be a scam that's imploding and GM kind of have their hands full with HMS & RCR, Toyota probably offered the team a better deal that's more subsidized than what LMC have right now with Chevy. Plus, Toyota might be looking into finding a team that can build engines & chassis on level equal to what's going on at Joe Gibbs Racing, so...?

As a major Jimmie fan, it will seem very weird to see him with a Toyota team, but I am in full support of what he is building towards the future. It has obviously been a tough year to this point for Legacy M.C., which is expected. Growing pains happen. Look at 23XI, RFK, Trackhouse, and even Hendrick when they first started. I am bummed to see him leave chevy for sure, but this creates opportunity for him, Maury Gallagher, and Jones and Gragson to build towards the future and I am hoping they can prove to be legitimate top 10 drivers and contend for wins every so often. Would be better with Dodge and maybe Alfa Romeo with the Giulia Quadrifoglio (but I am italian and an Alfa fan so I could be pretty biased on a presence of Alfa Romeo in NASCAR😂. Plus they are both of Stellantis group so a presence of these 2 manufacturers could be seen as redundant). But apart from this, as an european fan who recently joined NASCAR instead of F1 I would like to know, but what's the problem with Toyota? @@simoneghilardini5211 This is just my personal opinion you understand but the fact that Toyota is Japanese (although you will always hear the argument that they are built in America-doesn't matter) is a major reason. NASCAR had always been a uniquely American sport. I don't like Toyota period because they have done such a good job of convincing so many gullible American car buyers that their horrible looking, gag inducing crap is somehow better than domestic brands that we have lost great brands like Pontiac, Oldsmobile, Plymouth and Mercury which have all competed in NASCAR. Talks between Dodge and NASCAR stalled last October, either because Dodge balked at the costs (from what Dodge said, if they went back to NASCAR, they would have to leave NHRA), the Charger and Challenger are being discontinued in 2024, thus leaving Dodge with no gas-powered sedans, or Dodge was concerned about the amount of concussions with the Next Gen car.

This would be a damn good decision for Legacy. Being the 3rd team for Toyota, and Toyota would invest in this team with it having owners like Petty and Johnson. It brings a ton of history and two really good drivers to Toyota. Toyota needs this, and honestly I would like to see more Manufactors get in the sport. Give it a more F1 feel, more Manufactors means more money and more eyes on the sport. Chevy, Ford and Toyota aren't going anywhere but I would like to see them get competition. I would like to see Honda get a shot in the sport and Dodge make a comeback. That would give incentives to smaller but good teams to go to the manufactors that want to invest.
