As always, keep posting feedback and results and whether or not anything helped or if you're still struggling even after all 3 videos. If you are still struggling list your hardware details like amount of ram, cpu, gpu, heck even windows version. Other notes, pre edit video was 1 hour 10 minutes long. I cut out section on frame pacing and CASC and decided to again put em in a diff video in couple days probably. Since both are less about low fps and more about stutter, judder, and how improving inconsistent framerates that aren't low can still make the game feel better.

Might be unrelated, but I've noticed when using Nvidia sharpening filter, or the resample sharpness ingame, there is a weird brightness flicker when moving, if you spam W or mouse click it flickers correspondingly with your input. Any ideas? Unsure if its my monitor or an engine issue

GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!!! Some time ago i got serious fps drops inside Raids and even major cities. thats where i watched quite a few videos about what to do and how to increase fps. one of the tips were renderscale to 91% and shadow quality to low. After seeing your video and explaining what renderscale does (and what the bug can be) AND the fact that low shadows always bug; i changed those 2 options and went from 110fps (outdoor, non crowded area) to a freakin' 340fps! In fact i had both bugs active for the entire time. renderscale lower than 100% nearly halfed my fps. the other fps drops i just got from low shadow quality. To mention: i get fps increase when i set renderscale to 133%. now thats odd but hey i take it xD thank you mate, you saved my WoW experience =)

Hi nice video, i play wow for 20 years and i'm the "tech guy" of my guild and friend and even other guild or old player. You make an incredibile work about wow performance, and almost all the thing are correct, i wanna add my feedback, maybe can help more the ppl that follow u and that play wow. Sry if i type wrong i'm italian, i try my best to be understandable I) about the setting under the graphic quality options, u forgot to tell some things: 1) it's suggested to use the raid/battleground option enabled and make a specific setting for instanced content, this way player can enjoy a good visual while questing/world and high fps in raid 2) maybe a lot of ppl don't know that the view distance slider it's always ingored and settled as 1 in raid/instance/bg by the game when needed (like for some bossfight) 3) cmaa2 can give problem at ppl that use obs or recording solution, in that case they should use cmaa standard II) about addons 1) wow hate numbers, that's the most accurate explanation i can make, most of the fps lose using elvui, nameplates, or anyother addons can be improved or avoided if we remove the numebers on screen, for exemple on nameplate, raid frame party frame etc etc use % for hp intead of valor it's a super improving for fps, specialy in nameplates but even for raid frame. U tell me that u look at the exact valor of mob hp in a 10+ pull in m+???? i don't think so , just use % everywhere is possible. Use exact value only for player and target frame 2) as u already explain in addons setting video, try to force every addons refresh at not less then 1 second, i use 3 sec for details, 0.5 for elvui and plater, 1 for everything else, 3) at this day mandatory addons like mythic raid tools cause and extreme loss in fps maybe just to call healer or defensive cd.... if possibile try avoid using it, same things for the raid wa, if u don't raid mythic DBM or Bigwings is just enaugh 4) pls don't let useless addons active while raiding, if possible disable everthing is not needed III) about pc setting 1)run latest driver, latest update, but no beta or preview. Be smart, don't rush! 2) if u have 16gb of ram, congratulation is not enaught!, or maybe yes.... i will be short here, with 16gb of ram to avoid lagging low fps, just playwow and have discord opened. With other things like webpages other program, it's sure a fps loss or lag increase 3) for system with low gpu power, but even for everyone have some gpu problem, most application like discord, browser, bnet launcher should be setting with hardware accelartion off, be aware that disabling hardware accelarion improve gpu performance but *can* add cpu load and for browser it disabled 4k videostreaming, use if low end or old GPU 4)wow should be installed on an ssd, if not there are command to improve performance, /console worldPreloadNonCritical 0 this command can be reverted with 1 instead of 0 IV) about launcher and the famous "initialazing update" 1) do not play while game is downloading and is playable in orange, yellow green.... just wait pls.... 2) the infamous never starting update situation.... this is tricky, it's not a U problem, it's not a blizzard problem, It's an IP queue problem..... so to let the download start the solution is preatty simple but stupid, USE A FREE VPN just to download. remember to not do anything else then download with a vpn, to avoid security lock by blizzard

Great guide! I just wanted to add a note about performance drops at different render scales, especially below the native (100%) level. This happens because of screen reconstruction technologies like AMD FidelityFX then kicking in. In GPU-bound situations, lowering the resolution scale might provide more render headroom, but using FSR at the same time can significantly reduce bandwidth at higher resolutions. To address this, consider alternatives to FidelityFX (somewhere at the bottom of the settings list). Also, for better efficiency, please switch from CMAA2 to CMAA1, as CMAA1 is much more resource-friendly without any noticeable visual downgrade.
@mysticalos6 күн бұрын
no there is a genuine conflict/bug there where fsr is not compatible with certain drivers. likely because it’s conflicting with driver based solutions that are already running. fsrs. reconstruction is not more demanding than native higher resolutions for sure. like a user def shouldn’t drip half their frames rendering a lower resolution then reconstructing back up with fsr. otherwise that’s defeat purpose of fsr entirely. unless they were just setting it to 99 or something silly then saying gpu to reconstruct 1% like some content creators were recommmending but anything sane line 80% or lower should only be huge gains. also cmaa1 doesn’t work well with fsr or msaa. it also doesn’t work as well on apple silicon. it produces better results in any of these cases. and the cost difference is pretty insignificant. but yes someone excessively gpu bound could probably turn cmaa off or try 1.

When it comes to my personal settings, I use this: Shadow Quality-Good Liquid Detail-Fair Particle Density- Ultra(not required, high is fine) SSAO-Good Compute Effects- Good Outline Mode- High Texture Resolution-High(Required) Spell Density-Essential/Some Projected Textures- Enabled. For me, RT doesn't drop my performance as noticeably so the minimum needed for RT, if you want it, must be set at Good. Liquid Detail is high enough to where it's not using the crappy water textures. Particle density is for Mechanics that I need to see so I maximize it to ensure I see it. SSAO is good enough to where the visual fidelity is good. Setting Depth Effects lower will send sunshafts straight through everything and kind of ruins the immersion but if you don't care, leave it off. View Distance should be between 5-7 for load times. If your load times are bad, lower it to 5.

When talking about graphics and explaining what different graphics settings are doing, live on your screen, it may help some of us to know exactly what your hardware is so we can compare ours to yours, to gauge whether or not we will gain the same or a similar benefit. I say this, but also realize you have stated you are on a Mac. I am pretty sure the vast majority of us don't play on Macs and have no clue what Mac-specific information may be pertinent to non-Mac users. My suggestion? When doing videos like these, have a video description that mentions your exact hardware config, and if still using a Mac, perhaps put in your best guesstimate of what Intel/AMD chip is equivalent and guesstimate of what Intel/AMD/Nvidia GPU is equivalent to your Mac stats. Subbed. Good work. Yes, I learned a few things.

@mysticalos do you think running wow on Linux would help "bandaid" fix CPU bound bottlenecks and the render scale bug since it's being run with vulkan? I'm thinking it would handle what little multi thread loads wow has (if any) a bit better?
@mysticalosАй бұрын
I don't know, you'd probably get other performance hits. for example I can run wow in crossover (which uses wine translation layers too like linux) and performance way worse than native app. I do that with diablo 4 cause i HAVE to on macOS, but for wow i have a native app. going through anything out of box has a performance hit in itself. Another commenters said render scale performance bug happens if liquid is set higher than fair. I haven't confirmed this yet but maybe you can make sure water is fair THEN lower render scale without it tanking performance and get those sweet fps boosts?

Thank you. I'm probably a bit older than the average gamer, so having certain things explained a different way sure does help. Thankfully I had many settings 'right' for optimized frames, but I get a bit overwhelmed with NVidia's interface as it relates to 'best' settings for WoW. Since it's mainly cpu driven (I hope that's right) the gpu side doesn't really seem to impact regular gameplay that much. But when I get into dungeons, or world bosses, my frames still tank. Running a 3060ti (8G) and i5 12600k, with 16G RAM and 1TB SSD. Should be pretty beefy, but wonder about a few things still. Are my fans spinning fast enough, early enough to prevent thermal throttling etc. But mainly it's those actual NVidia settings that gets me nervous to hit that check box haha.

that forces the FSR sharpness slider to run even if not using FSR. whether it affects performance much hard to say. I haven't really done any testing on that.

Damn I've been using render scale to 91% due to a Quazzii video. I've been dipping to 30-40 FPS in raids. 60-70 in Dorn, 80-100 in the world. Turning it back to 100% I shot up to 273 FPS in that same spot you are at in the video. Ty for this. If you see this, on a 240hz 5120x1440p widescreen monitor is there a recommended in game target FPS cap? 120? 240?
@mysticalosАй бұрын
i mean if you can hit 277 then can you maintain 240 or does it drop elsewhere? if you can maintain that then that’s your goal. your refresh rate. but if you’re dropping in raid 120 is a good raid setting. unless you drop below that too then you could use 80 or 60. both divisible into 240 so either have perfect frame pacing.
@VesilolАй бұрын
@mysticalos looks like I'm between 80 and 120 now in dungeons or dorn. Not sure on raid yet. Still a big increase from the 30-40. My monitor has freesync, but I have a nvidia 3080 ti, so I don't think it does anything, if that matters.

try using liquid details on fair, and disabling any kind of 3d models on screen, then try FSR and render resolution again.

What are your thoughts on the performance impact of downloaded icon packs, and masque? When I profile it masque seems negligible.
@mysticalosАй бұрын
same as the talk about the player resolution. upping resolution of icons and like won't hit performance really as long as you have modern amount of vram. it might hurt you if you have a potato igpu though. I actually use the huge mechagon icon pack that uprezes every icon in game. and that's about 1+GB of icons
@Opie_egАй бұрын
@@mysticalos Thank you for the swift reply. I'm running a 4070 so i doubt I'm gpu bound, I use the same icon pack. Your video was very informative!

first thing i checked was render scale, i had it set to 75%. moved to 100 and went from 60 to 110 fps. ty.

14900k vs 7800x3d? V-cache vs threaded performance?

V-cache is huge for WoW

I too use a 4k monitor via a Mac mini m4 pro, what would you recommend the render scale is set to? 1440? I can set it to default 2160 100% and still keeps fps at close to 120fps but fans kick in. What is your recommendation I normally cap at 60fps
@mysticalos2 күн бұрын
i wouldn’t worry about fans kicking in. that’s what they’re supposed to do under load. if you really want a good crisp non 100% then no lower than 75 but if you’re fine with performance at 100 just leave at 100
@SimonParkerUK2 күн бұрын
@@mysticalos yea I have it at 75%, and fx set to 0.2?

hi, thanks for the interesting video. an APPLE M1 ultra do you think would be a good CPU for the next few years? Thanks
@mysticalosАй бұрын
Years? iffy. the thing about ultra is it's no more good for wow than basically base or pro. wow isn't gonna use that many cpu cores. ultra is more for multi tasking. but as someone who went from an M1 to an m3 and saw cpu boost just from that. i can definitely say M1 will fall behind over time. it will be good enough for a while but it won't be great for much longer. technology moves fast.

@thelastberserk630Ай бұрын
@@mysticalos Thanks! If I understand correctly, to play with fps 60 at 1080p it is better at this point an M4 with less GPU core, rather than an ultra M1 that has more GPU core, because the single CPU M4 core is more performing than the single CPU core M1 ultra. correct? Thanks again.

Appreciate you putting all this out, been following your last three and I seem to just be stuck at 60 fps no matter what settings i change. No, I dont have any of the Max FPS or Target FPS checked.

vsync or gsync/freesync turned on propably with a 60 hz monitor
@Diozakrod91Ай бұрын
Try turning off vsync? I've always been capped at 60. Yesterday I randomly decided to disable vsync and my fps instantly shot through the roof.
