I fell in love with Mesa Boogie because they are extremely reliable. I personally own 3 of them. I called after hours on December12, 2019 at 6:43 pm and Mesa Boogie called me back at 7:42 and helped me out. Mesa Boogie actually listens to musicians and designs amps around that. Unlike other manufacturers that make stupid decisions and expect us to buy their product. Mesa Boogie amps rarely see an amp tech because they have a fixed bias. If a tube goes bad, all you do is replace it with a Mesa Boogie tube and the problem is fixed. They even have a transferable manufacturer’s warranty. Although I have 3 Mesa Boogie amps, I’m planning on getting a 4 th . I’m getting a Mesa Boogie “ lonestar “ . Voted one of the best clean sounding amps ever.

DUDE - Great vid! I'm so psyched that you are influenced by Lynch, DiMartini and Ty Tabor!! The tone on Dogman is incredible. I assumed you'd be too young to really appreciate those players.... but nope! They are some of my favorites too! I have found your amp reviews very helpful and informative. Thanks to you, I'm now on a quest to find a low hours, mint condition, unmodified JCM2000 DSL50. Wish me luck! Also FYI for the viewers of this vid: Soldano HR50 (awesome), is not in the same price range as the other two. Also, he's playing drop-D which gives a much meaner sounding low end (especially those open D chords) than standard E tuning. How about Mesa Single Rectifier? Let me go look to see if you reviewed that one somewhere in here.....

The tube Screamer makes the magic front of almost all tubes amps. However, I haven't never liked the JCM 2000. The Soldano sounds great for sure but for my use and my taste a Plexi is the rule.
@MikkaGrytviken2 жыл бұрын
@Deconstruction 33 I am the tech. I made a low power plexi clone that sounds amazing to my ears if I need. Unfortunately Plexis has always been unasable for musicians that plays on little local stages. However, if you want the real Plexi big and sweet tone, you have to move enough air. That's why I don't like attenuator and load box.

Nice one. I have a Soldano Hot Rod Avenger myself, it's the duck's nuts. Though recently I've come to enjoy a Marshall Plexi, the Soldano has more of a refined hi-fi sound, I enjoy the rawness of the Plexi with a pedal slamming the front end. But damn, you certainly make it sound great! I also have the same Marshall JCM2000 50w, really love that amp too. Surprisingly good and very versatile.
@michaelinglis85164 жыл бұрын
Dsl's new an old are amazingly versatile amps. With a set of electro harmonix el34's they are so quiet, those tubes take away all the fizz and make the amp sound so damned good. My favorite amp ever is my DSL100HR with the EHX El34's and a low noise jjecc83 in v1 and a mullard cv4004 in v2 and 12ax7b's for v3 an v4. It can do plexi and jcm800 on the classic channel and then you have the ultra channel for 2 different hot rodded jcm800 sounds. I use high gain pups like jb/59 sets and fishman fluence moderns and I'm able to get pristine cleans classic rock crunch and high gain all day. It's just a great amp if you need 1 amp that can do it ALL.

Dude I have a Jet City 50h. That amp is sonically super close. I run a tube screamer in the front and a 7 band boss eq and sonic stomp in the loop (i cut the volume down on the eq so I can jack the post, like a retarded attenuator). I’m trying to find a site that will sell me the mods but i plan on putting in the depth mod, mid sweep, and trying to decide on thE HAIRY BROWN EYE (Friedman High gain channel) or the SLO mod (exact circuitry of Soldano SLO 100 Like a mirror). There’s also a mod to give you a cleaner clean. That’s the one thing this amp lags behind in. The clean channel lacks. But for the price man it’s bulletproof. I changed my baffle and painted it and put some AC powered LEDS that are changeable via a remote (cooler looking than the HUGHES AND kettner).

Another amp I was so surprised with I bought was the black star HT100 (I have the 1st run, not the mkII). They are affordable and sound AMAZING Just guitar to amp. Nothing else. The ID CORe series have the company a black eye (i still think that for a 16 year old starting out they aren’t a bad starter amp. Better than a spider). But this series is the tits. The 100 series are amazing but you are gonna pay well over a grand for that. The HT series has a nice clean and 2 different lead channels with 2 different voicing for each. Plus you have their ISF knobnto go from a British gain to an American gain (Marshall to Mesa) as well as mix. Has an emulated out that sounds brutal into a daw with some quality Impulse Responses. But those are two that I bought very reasonably and was super pleased with. That and the Eleven Rack. Everyone should own one. 200$ used. Best purchase ever

I Hi leon. My question: I've a soldano slo100. I have a GAS attack for a marshall: so DSL, TSL, jcm800? Is the DSL you love really similar to a jcm800? I would prefer it for the 2 channels, so I found it more versatile. I would take the 20 w because I would use it first of all to record my guiatar tracks - no more using VST - using the DI modern marshalls have. Thks so much. Flavio

Great taste! The 20 Studio series 800 is a pretty fun amp

Hi again Leon I've got a DSL50 myself which I love what settings are you using on this demo Specifically on the Ultra Gain channel Cheers

I have a DSL like that . I had to repair the power amp section though they have heat/circuit issues and I clipped a resistor somewhere. It really made a difference. They like a low bias setting I feel too. I did not like the JJel34s that were in there. I went with Shuguang el34s they sound really nice believe it or not for cheapies. (Would prefer winged C but they do not exist anymore) I run a SD-1 I found it to give more of what I wanted over the TS9 or 808. I have been gassing for the Mesa even though I prefer Marshallish tones ....its weird because all Mesas seem to sound different to my ears. However I have played an SLO100 in person myself at a boutique shop and I will never forget that day. That and the Uberschall. Love the tones man and I actually am a big fan of Warren Dimartini as well. Wish I had a quarter of his chops.

I just had one of my DSL's serviced to correct the bias drift from the poor heating design, that sucks. I'd love to try an Uber, seems like the perfect Marshall/Mesa compromise. Oh yeah, and Warren is god!

The soldano had that 1988 L.A. hard rock sound to it that nothing else quiete do the same way it does it. The snakeskin design makes it look groovy. Everything about this amp screams : ''plaaaaaayyy meeeeeeee!!!! '' lol; the 3 of them are great it's down to taste. Unimpressed by the marshall, i used to have a JCM800 2204 50w canadian ed (they're different google it) with the metal toggle switch and everything in mint condition, i still own a dsl50 that i basically use as a frankenstein electronic testing platform. Once you have heard a jcm800 of the breed that i had, you can't unhear it. It was.... it was exactly what it's supposed to be; perfect one trick pony but what a trick. Unbelievably more marshall than marshall. Ended up selling it for a 20% profit because i don't do gigs or plan on having a live band no more and it's useless with the master below 4-5 so.... The buy just tested if it was working, was stunned by the mint condition, he did not even tried to bargain. lol

Very similar tastes in amps. My favorite is my Soldano Hot Rod 50 single channel. Push it with a BOSS EQ set to a little mid range boost with a little volume gain. I have a JCM2000 100W and a 4x12 w/ Greenbacks but I never use the red channel. The green crunch channel dimed with a Marshall Guv'nor (with all knobs on pedal at 12 o'clock) is deadly. I have a JCM800 50W and a Boogie JP-2C but the HR50 and the 2000 are my favorites.

That's uncanny, if I ever buy another amp it will be a JP2C or a MKV

I have the mesa dual rec with el34 tubes in it . The el34 tubes seem to round out the low end better , especially for down tuned and 7 string guitars . It has a better punch and clarity that the 6l6 just seemed to be lacking . I boost it with the vht v drive and it's a beast .

I dont see a whole lot of em, but i have the Mesa Single Rectifier. Sounds real close to the dual rec but not quite. Still my favorite amp I’ve ever owned, has EL34 tubes and played through a marshal 4x12 cab.

LT - Very nice KZbin Channel, sooo addictive for guitar fans! All those Amps are amazing, but... I know a tone of people would vote for Soldano for ever, I respect that. In the meantime, there is a new kid in the block for modern Metal: ENGL Fireball 100 E645 (the real amp, not plugin)... hopefully it will be consider as a serious contender one day in the wish list, it is tight, amazing tone, lots of gain... probably does not really any tube screamer, so much gain.

I had that Soldano and the recto.. I still have the rectifier.. That's all I have to say.I went down the rabbit hole trying to get the Soldano to sound right for me.

I purchased the jca50 because of you 🤘 love it! I noticed that you've got both your preamp and master volume up pretty high in these videos. How are your ears not bleeding? If I set my volumes the same my eyeballs would melt! Love your tone by the way

Nick Trierweiler phenomenonal amps! You'll notice I don't have a fan in the same room as me ; I have an iso room and a load box so I choose between the depending on the mood I'm in. Eyeballs intact!

I think this might have been the first vid I watched of you.. Anyone that likes Soldano has to be cool.. :-) Have you tried the Mesa Collusium heads like Sykes used? Just curious or Mk2, etc,? I think you have a Trixaxes preamp right? Thanks buddy..

No but so keen to try one for the Sykes thing. Yeah the tri is new but so good!

I have an old purple HR100+ and in my opinion once he boosted it you never got to hear how intricate and alive the beast really is with the gain around 8 ( please do another no boosting or effects in the front for the folks!)

Dang that soldano sounds great! Similar high gain chug like the Rectifier. I might have to check one of these bad boys out. I know the SLO series is basically a Rectifier, but only Mesa copied soldano. To bad they’re expensive amps.

The Hot Rod is a good way to cop the SLO vibe without spending huge money.
@some18myjam605 жыл бұрын
True but if I’m gonna spend $2-2.5k for a hot rod, I’d rather save a little while longer to get an slo. That’s just me though 🤷🏻♂️

I have multiple favorites because they all do things that others can't quite match. My Mark V is amazing, it's the best amp overall of anything I've ever touched. But my Mark III blue stripe outclasses it for pure aggressive metal crunch. My Blue Angel is the most emotive amp I've ever owned. My '69 Marshall Plexi does THAT thing better than anything else. They're all favorites.

Dear Leon, I’m considering my first tune screamer after about fifteen years of playing. What do you recommend? I saw a new one that isn’t released yet for $400 something that seemed very gimmicky. I’ve heard stuff about older ones being better? I’m lost when it comes to the tube screamer. Help 😂.
@LeonTodd5 жыл бұрын
Get a used Boss SD-1 - $30-$40 and it'll do the same thing, more or less.

Leon Todd Hey Leon 😀 < smile like the time you first played your soldano. I appreciate that you take the time to reply. It makes it a joy to keep coming back to your channel. What about the Ibanez tube screamers? What is your opinion on them? Old, new, or the boss recommendation over both Ibanez options? I have an engl powerball and I really think it has a lot to do with my pick ups that I have have it at 95% gain on its lead channel to get a decent level of distortion. It sounds crazy but that is exactly where it finally has enough gain and despite it still being low the harmonics are insane. It could be my guitar. I’ve had the engl savage in the past and the se670. The day I sold the se670 I heard someone play it on a real cabinet with a les paul and I was blown away. At the time I only had a cheap guitar research cab that came with my les Paul. With my savage I wasn’t a fan of the tone with my main guitar but when I used a custom made hembry with Seymour Duncan’s that amp came alive. It sounded like mein trio by rammstein. With the dean I had at the time you could get such a searing hot lead tone. I say all this because I’m hopingn the tube screamer might bring something out with my current set up. I’ve also been considering the bogner red pedal.
