In the 50s and 60s hour long TV shows ran 52 minutes without the commercials, now they run something like 40-43 minutes. And half hour shows without the commercials ran about 25 1/2 mins. Nowadays if you watch a syndicated episode of I LOVE LUCY it runs about 21 minutes without the commercials.

There are two standout elements that make this program timeless. It had class and a sense of decorum. It had an innocent sense of pure fun and enjoyment of playing the game. There was little or no one upending or taking over the show from anyone concerned. It was all relaxed, respectful and let's just have fun and get paid a stipend for doing it. By god, people in the entertainment world-especially talk shows and sit down interviews could learn an awful lot from these people. thank you so much for all of these.

I think part of what made this show so enjoyable (and addictive, at least to me all these years later) is that the panelists and John Daly as host all seemed to be having a genuinely good time, as well as developing their learning and vocabulary chops. We need more of this, not less, in my humble opinion. (And I love when the cow mattress salesmen claimed the cows are now so contented they don't want to get up to give milk.)

He packed so much into a life he knew from early on would be shortened and, wow, what a huge talent. I love listening to his music, just as I did when he was making it.

Truth is: Rather than having been a congenital ailment, Mr. Darin suffered from rheumatic valvular heart disease (a sequel from rheumatic fever - the latter contracted around the age of eight years). Complications arising from infected, surgically-replaced valves, contributed to his demise.

Bobby Darin is the author and performer of my favorite song "Amy" which was used in the movie The Gunfighter of Abilene. Unfortunately he died very young. He had a great future as a musician and actor R.I.P. Mr. BD. P.S.: I was born on February 14th, 1962 the same year of this program.

It's so much better with the original commercials, it adds context and its seamless, the usual commercial cut-outs in these videos is jarring. I wonder if the original commercials exist in all the copies and GSN or wherever these come from just cut them out? John Daly refers to Sandra Dee as "Mrs. Robert Darin" but as far as I can tell, "Bobby Darin" was just a stage name for Walden Robert Cassotto (his birth name), so "Robert Darin" is an incorrect conflation of the two. Similarly, JCD referred to Bob Hope as Robert Hope in a quasi-formal manner, but in reality his name was Leslie Townes Hope, not Robert Hope.

I was born in 1961 and I distinctly remember absolutely no cereal box cost more than $1.00 when I was growing up. Now some of them are reaching $6-7 a box! OUTRAGEOUS.

The owner/manager said he wanted to lower the price by a PENNY but Gulf would not let him!! Can you imagine? Oh by the way there are/were two other gas stations at that same intersection, so competition was fierce.

The segment about the "cow mattress was totally misleading at least the way John desccribed it. I grew up milking cows and the "stall" is where the cow stood while being milked. The cow did not lie down while in the stall, so John really didn't know what he was talking about in this sense.

Kirk Barkley You do Bobby Darin a disservice. He was very much multi-talented and accomplished in his short life that to use Dustin Hoffman as a measuring stick is an obscenity. Plus Darin was an angel compared to the likes of Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Spacey , who ill-advisedly insisted on portraying Darin when he was 45, visibly way too old for the 37 Darin at the time of his death. Also, Spacey brought too much negative publicity as an admitted sex abuser to play Darin in a biopic that was a huge movie losing flop at the box office.

There is a difference between a heifer and a cow: a heifer is a female that has never been bred (virgin) whereas a cow is one who has had a calf. It is necessary for a cow to have a calf before it will produce milk therefor he was correct when he said a heifer would not use the mattress because it would only be used for a lactating cow.
