I wonder why Miss Remick was passed over for the film version of 'Wait Until Dark'. The play with Remick was very successful and ran for 373 performances. The creepy surprise at the plays' end was put into the film version, but in the play, it caused people to jump and women to scream. My brother saw the play in London and he testified at that time that it was a terrifying moment, indeed.

Audrey Hepburn did the movie 'Wait Until Dark' but Lee Remick did it for a year on Broadway to rave reviews. Those were still the days when a beautiful movie star yearned to prove herself 'on the boards' night after night as a 'real' actress. She was great.

Lee Remick..What a beautiful lady. She comes from Quincy, Massachusetts (I live the next town over). Many years ago Quincy had a shopping center. (before the malls). Her father owned a department store there called Remicks of Quincy, a lovely store. I never saw her but I was told that on occasions Lee would greet people and sign autographs there. She gave wonderful performances in the movies. Her movies were high quality (check them out.). So proud she was from our area.

What a wonderful connection and remembrance from your hometown. Such a sad and untimely ending at age 55 for such a greatly talented and beautiful woman. LEE REMICK was a gifted actress of stage and screen and regardless of the nature of the films she made, whether it was High Drama such as DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES or even a horror movie such as THE OMEN, she always stole the show. May she RIP.

The 1967 movie version of "Wait Until Dark" with Audrey Hepburn was one of the scariest films I ever saw in that period. Talk about dry mouth. It must have been truly claustrophobic on the stage.

According to Wikipedia, "[w]hen Marilyn Monroe was fired during the filming of the comedy Something's Got to Give, the studio announced that Remick would be her replacement." Dean Martin refused to work with Remick because, although he admired Remick, he had signed onto Something's Got to Give so that he can work with Monroe. Something's Got to Give was never made but 20th Century Fox hired a new director Michael Gordon and a new cast and made some changes here and there to turn Something's Got to Give to Move Over, Darling. Another peak into the future of "What's My Line?". Larry Blyden is a guest panelist. He was also guest panelist and Mystery Guest on the Syndicated era, (1968-1972), before he replaced Wally Bruner (1972-1975). He died too young in a car accident. He was going to host a charades game show for Goodson-Todman called "Show-Offs".

His death in that Morroco car wreck was truly disastrous for G-T. "Show Offs" was practically designed for Larry's talents. Bobby Van replaced Larry on the run, because the premiere was a few weeks after Larry died. The show lasted under a year.

Jeff Vaughn Anyone who has ever worked an assembly line can see this is possible. If you do something regularly day in day out, you develop a rhythm to it and basically zone out while you're doing it. I worked for years in semiconductor assembly before they automated most of the production steps. If I could work with. Tweezers under a microscope and attach .001" gold wires to those chips at the rate of 3500 per hr then egg cracking should be s doddle

As a former Denny's cook, I can assure you that (breaking 2 eggs at a time; one each hand) an average rate of 2815 per hour is entirely possible for anyone with normal hand/eye coordination (and toned forearm muscles)! I must add, however, that at the restaurant, I hardly ever had to exceed the breaking of 600 eggs per shift. (This was for buckets of what we called "egg wash"...much like the cartons of EggBeaters you buy at the grocery store. This egg wash was used exclusively for either scrambled egg or omelet orders.)

Wow. Get a load of Lee Remick's mini-dress. Note that by the 1960's episodes of WML, the women's wardrobe had mostly changed. Gone were the long evening gowns, and in were the mini-skirts and mini-dresses.

Arlene and Jayne both had particularly beautiful gowns in this episode, though, imo (00:57 and 1:40). I also really liked Lee's dress, and you can see Arlene admiring it as Lee walks off the set (20:47). I wouldn't exactly call it a mini-dress, though -- it was almost to her knees; I think the hemline needs to be much higher to qualify as a mini.

Mini-dress? No, not really. Its hem was just at the top of Lee Remick's kneecap. Mini-skirts and mini-dresses had their hems a number of inches above the knee showing off quite a lot of thigh. Some of them were so short women couldn't sit down without showing off more than was decent.

(With my limited Mandarin I don't remember ever hearing the expression "个喂" _ge wei_, lit. _a hello_, so I assumed it was more formal and rendered it _greetings_. The second character "喂" _wei_ is _hello_, and it's with that word that Chinese people answer the telephone - but not greet each other in person.) :)

At the recommendation of epaddon on tv.com, I saw the 1967 film version of "Wait Until Dark" with Audrey Hepubrn. A good film, with good performances, especially from Audrey. In addition to the original Broadway Play, at the same time, there was also a version for London's West End theaters, with Honor Blackman (later Barbara Murray) in the Lee Remick role.

And another fun fact about Frederick Knott's "Wait Until Dark" (he also wrote the play "Dial M For Murder") on Broadway is that Robert Duvall played Roat opposite Lee Remick as Suzy in that original Broadway run.

San Lorenzo, California is by no means "in the middle of the state" and it is most definitely *not* north of San Francisco. It's on the east side of San Francisco Bay between San Leandro and Hayward, so it's southeast of San Francisco.

If he thinks it's north of San Francisco it certainly wouldn't be in the middle of the state. She agreed with him, but I suspect she was just nervous.

The actual comparison was with regular canned fruits packed in heavy sugar syrup, not with fresh fruit. A century ago, if you lived in a cold-winter climate and wanted peaches in February, you had a choice between opening a jar of home-canned fruit or a can from the grocery store. Sugar was a preservative, as well as a way of disguising fruit that was picked less than ripe. Better canning processes now allow packing in light syrup or in fruit juice; frozen fruit is now available; we have much wider choice of fresh fruit shipped from far away than our grandparents did. And yes, for diabetics and dieters, artificially sweetened canned fruit was a useful innovation in mid-century even though we have other more appetizing choices now.
