Just found this video a couple years later. Their expansion seems to be in full swing now. Very interesting to see the speculation from this video in hindshight

Indeed - I'd like to think I predicted Swoop being folded back into WestJet as well in my Flair video >:) although maybe that wasn't so hard to guess

The new E190-E2 order and YYZ ops are extremely exciting, even if it won't be the London City-esque A220 operations out of YTZ like originally planned.

A couple of thoughts. The new E-195s could be used to expand service in Montreal, Ottawa, Halifax, etc. Billy Bishop would connect these hubs to Toronto, in addition to offering some service from Pearson. Then there's the possibility of mergers and/or codeshares with one or more of the airlines mentioned in the video, as well as Air Transat, after its failed attempt to combine with Air Canada. One other thought. It's quite possible that part of Porter's rationale for going with Embraer is that the manufacturer is developing a new turboprop based on the E-Jet platform. And the Q-400s will need to be replaced at some point.

Yep, a deeper partnership with JetBlue or something big like joining forces with AA/Oneworld could be on the table :^)

Great presentation..!! Lots of info and details.. good structured comprehensives.! What do you think of the so called "charter airlines'' in the Canadian skies.. maybe a video on the likes of AT and SW and also airlines coming into play like Flair, OWG and Enerjet (something else ?).. ? Do you think alliances are possible between some of these to compete in a tight market like Canada ?
@TheFlyingMooseCA3 жыл бұрын
I'll admit that there's a lot of me to still learn about the landscape re: charter airlines! For alliances specifically, I think most Canadian players are looking to team up with carriers outside of Canada - a lot of US airlines would like to fold Porter's regional coverage into their own networks, making partnerships (even if not a formal alliance) an attractive option

You forgot one major point, Porter owns 26 Q400 that are fully paid out of 29. This means no lease payments compared to Air Canada and Westjet. Your estimate of cash burn is way off. I still enjoyed your video.

How come they cancelled the A220?
@TheFlyingMooseCA3 жыл бұрын
The A220/C-series was never approved for operations in Billy Bishop, but Porter was hoping/planning to have that happen. There are some reasons for ordering the E-195 over the A220 for this expansion, likely surrounding delivery schedules and the fact that Embraer probably cut Porter a better deal than Airbus was willing to (the latter having more leverage with the popularity of the A220)

@@TheFlyingMooseCA oh that makes sense, I was definetly shocked to hear about the CS order when it wasn't aproved for Billy Bishop.
