Darnold was a great story, and he is a very likeable guy, just wish the finish would have been better for him. With a better OLine and a little better running game, you can win playoff games with Darnold, especially since he's had some experience to learn from now. That being said, I think you have to take a chance with McCarthy and Daniel Jones next year and use the money to build up the OLine or else it won't matter who the QB is. Next year won't be easy, it's a tough schedule and most likely the Vikings will not stay as healthy all season as they were this year, it's just the odds. Darnold back for a year would not be great for him. He'd have to play just lights out every game or people would be screaming for McCarthy even if he wasn't as good as Darnold and you don't want to have to be looking over your shoulder all season long. We'll see how this all plays out, and if Darnold goes somewhere else, I hope it's t a good situation for him. And by the way Vikings fans, stop with the Darnold hate after all he did this season. He was never meant to be Tom Brady and win a Super Bowl this year, and if you watch the tape of all the sack against the Rams, about 5 of the 9 were NOT Darnold's fault.

If the Vikings move on from Darnold, they would have such a great sales pitch for Flores. Here’s $50 mill, build your defense, and be the Ben Johnson of next year’s cycle
@northlandphoenix14 күн бұрын
I don't think that's how it will play out. I think he'll be getting some, but I think they'll put a strong priority on free agent interior oline. It's an offensive league and the defense will make due with what's left.
@JdoseZ13 күн бұрын
I think that’s true but we already invested the majority of our resources to offense. All they really need is interior O line and that’s typically cheap

And they can ignore the o-line for the 15th season !!!!!

Darnold will benefit next season because his team won't be overspending at the QB position. And there won't be the expectations and pressure that he'd have to deal with had they beaten Detroit and gotten to the Super Bowl because of his consistent excellence.

He receives his walking papers and we keep Daniel Jones to compete against JJ McCarthy for starting job

Do you feel Daniel Jones is a better option? Darnold got a panic attack. I'd rather address that than give up on him. 14 wins? Seems like a great starting place.
@jeffvikings624013 күн бұрын
@ALexMcDunny if you compared career stats, Daniel Jones on paper makes a better option than Sam Darnold! We are talking about a back up for JJ McCarthy if he wins the starting job.

Fellas, let’s be honest on what we saw and what no one is saying. Yes, Darnold has an Elite skill set but we all know there are levels to this. It’s what separates the guys who are just in and out of the NFL from guys who wear gold jackets and everything in between. The thing Darnold is missing is called “ That dog!” ( that’s what we call it where I’m from.) The bad part of (levels of a player) is you either have it or you don’t, and Darnold doesn’t have it. It was hard to watch the last two games of the season where you saw the other team bring the fight to Darnold and then watch Darnold not fight back and fold was hard to watch. He doesn’t have that dog in him, I hope McCarthy has that built in him just based of how he had to earn everthing. That Dog is what separates the real from the fake and unless our QB’s develop that mental part of the game, it doesn’t matter what talent we put around the QB’s, our team will alway struggle in big games when the other team brings that dog out! Backup after those 2 horrendous games. 4th team isn't good. Crumbled under the bright lights in the biggest moments.

I have a question for you/all Vikings fans, and I ask this as an Eagles fan.. After Carson Wentz tore his ACL and Nick Foles had that Superbowl run, he came back the next year still as a backup, and Carson Wentz both started and ended the season injured for Foles to take it over, make the playoffs and we had that double doink.. Which brings my question: Will Sam Darnold accept that Nick Foles-esque role of coming back to the Vikings, as a backup, for lesser money than he wouldve gotten, or do you think that role goes to Daniel Jones?
@omar-.13 күн бұрын
Sam Darnold has no incentive to take less money to compete (again) with a de-facto rookie. Notwithstanding the last two games, he had an impressive season. He looked like a franchise guy for a lot of the year, and a lot of teams *need* a QB right now. You did bring up Daniel Jones, though, as someone who may parallel that Foles/Wentz scenario a bit. I think he makes a lot of sense as the bridge guy. Daniel Jones has played good football before (2022), he provides a similar proposition as Sam Darnold back in March: Encouraging guy for a rookie (McCarthy) to beat out, but perhaps not disastrous if he has to be your starter.

Do you think a man who lacked the intelligence to be an NFL quarterback will somehow become more intelligent as a head coach? A good man knows his limitations and play-calling needs to be handled by someone who prefers chess to checkers and nonfiction to graphic novels.

intelligence was not KOC's issue as a player. have you seen him throw? it's genuinely hilarious
