Thanks for slogging thru BS basin so we dont have to! You still got a great video out of the shortened, bushwacky trip!

I’ve been wanting to check out that area for a long time, box checked… won’t be back! 😵💫

I'm late watching this - that green rattlesnake, wow! the camera falling😅 the bushwhacking and pole dragging - feel that pain!
@MoonJuiceHikes6 ай бұрын
LOL! I'm sure you can relate! Its not all rainbows and butterflies out there (usually is though).

Hey Brevan, had the opportunity to meet you on an early morning Salt River paddle with Troy and Lance. Can't thank you enough for sharing your experience! So happy for you! Congratulations isn't enough!!!!! Continue to live well. ps. I cried when you hit that summit. I've had many similar emotional moments. Your well documented quest sure made me feel I was there. Hope to see you again! Cheers

Oh yeah, I remember you! Yeah man, it’s hard to describe the feeling of being on a summit you were certain you were never gonna see…. What an incredible feeling. Glad you enjoyed it! Until next time.

Thanks for suffering through that one, so that we don't have to. Nice work Juice!

😂 Bjorn if you find yourself here in AZ again, hit me up. I won’t let you go out on trails like this… wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy!

I have friends that have hiked down Bull Basin in years past and had the same experience. Your new name BS Basin is spot on.

That hike looks brutal and beautiful. But I shudder to think what stuff was too draining for you to record. Great video!

Oh yeah, you know there’s plenty of that 1 and done terrain, not willing to go through twice for the little camera shot! 😳

Nice! I coues hunt in those areas. You should do a WHERE TO ALWAYS FIND WATER in the Eastern Superstitions, like the one you did for the Western Superstitions. Your videos are awesome!

I wish I could! Truth is, I have no idea what water sources are perennial beyond Reavis Creek. I asked around and no one seemed to know. The common theme is go out after it rains, which is obvious, but I couldn’t find any info on reliable water when it hasn’t rained. Also, when planning I get feedback from people that I know first hand is incorrect, so who knows where to get reliable info?!

Well done Breven. Nice area that's not visited often. Your sense of exploring and enthusiasm for it is respected.

Your arms have to be cut up from all that brush! I’m amazed how much water is out there.

I lucked out! We had a few good days of rain about a month ago, had no idea what I’d find out there. Water was thinning, but still tons of it.

Should have stayed in Haunted Canyon and looked for the Cave of a Thousand Eyes! 😂. Seriously though that’s on my list of things to do. Spend a few days out there lookin. Great video.
@MoonJuiceHikes6 ай бұрын
Next time! I didn’t have enough time to hang out in haunted canyon, had way too many miles to lay down to stop so soon. However, that was a pretty good area for sure, wish it was longer.

Thank you for confirming that I’m not missing anything by having never been past Tonys Cabin. Love the horror movie sound effects😂 🐂 💩 basin indeed😂 That looked like a bushwhacking/sufferfest/deep dive into a world of hurt. Glad you had some running water. And good call on changing your plans. Glad you finally saw the Circle Stone ruins. Lots of uphill to get there. Let’s hit Reavis Ranch sometime and hit Mound Mountain then. You suffered enough😂👍

That sounds like a good plan to me!

Brutal but awesome! Appreciate the glimpse into some of those lesser seen areas. Thanks, great video!
@MoonJuiceHikes6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. After the trail crews clean things up, I might try to hit the few I skipped… but definitely not before. Brutal is right!
@MooreToLifeOutdoors6 ай бұрын
That was brutal. It is no fun when the trail is like that. Bush wacking is very draining.
@MoonJuiceHikes6 ай бұрын
Man, you’ve got that right! I’m learning how to be prepared to adjust my plans if things aren’t going so well. Looking for bailout options ahead of time isn’t such a bad idea after all!

@WolfPackM98c6 ай бұрын
I did the same thing! Had a 38 mile route planned that included Campaign, Fireline and Mound Peak. Took so long to navigate and got so tore up that I rerouted back on the AZT section of trails. Probably a good thing you decided against Mound Peak, there is a extremely thick wall of manzanita gatekeeping the saddle, although the crouch path I bashed through is still there 😆 The old trails going up the spine are impassable so you gotta go up the steep side using the trees to climb.
@MoonJuiceHikes6 ай бұрын
Ohhh good to know! I’m thinking the next time a do a Reavis overnighter I’ll try to run up there while my legs are still fresh. The bushwhacking is exhausting!
@pw28836 ай бұрын
MoonJuice, You did great! You’re a tough man. Regarding elevation: I always believed (incorrectly?) people refer to two distinct geographic areas - the Superstition Mountains - and the larger, wider area, Superstition Wilderness. The Mountains run roughly from Flat Iron to near Peralta Canyon. Peak 5057 is the tallest peak in this mountain range. It seems there are higher elevations in the wider and larger Wilderness area.
@MoonJuiceHikes6 ай бұрын
Ohhhh, thats an interesting idea PW. I’ve never looked at the Ridgeline as “the mountains” because when your in those mountains looking east you see nothing but mountains all over the place, and you can certainly see the tall ones in the east. I think the western side has the better looking mountains, that’s for sure!

Dude. I found out if you break up the big chunks into much smaller pieces, it hydrates way better. Had a bit of a crunchy one first time I had it, but after that, learning my lesson and doubling the soak time… yummy! Definitely one of the better meals out there.
@thehoneybadger80896 ай бұрын
I hiked all those trails over 20 years ago and they were well defined back then. Apparently they have fallen into disuse, especially by the horseback people.
@MoonJuiceHikes6 ай бұрын
I think the 2019 Woodbury fire burned so much it made most of the area unattractive to hike. Reavis valley was saved, and haunted canyon was unaffected. Good news is the Forest Service says trails crews are already planning to hit it hard, just waiting for some funding to come in.
@kathleenhardy95146 ай бұрын
Would be nice to see that happen. It's a beautiful area that I'd like to explore more, but it's so rough and slow going that it's almost impossible to make much progress in a weekend.
