When my husband and I were looking for a house he had a really hard time imagining what we could do with spaces. He had no ability to imagine new decoration, a different kitchen, knocking down a wall. I think a lot of people are like him. Changing the furniture to make the best of the room just makes it easier for people to see the potential.

I never looked at the houses I was going to buy with such a discerning. Decor, paint colors, furniture, out of date trends, meant nothing to my decisions to dislick a house. I was concerned with type if heating system, structure of outside, foundation, low taxes, amount of space, I knew I would put in my own decor, furniture, colors etc. Puzzled by buyers who judge the owners tadte.

Since we live we made it beautifully modern home . Yet i listed my home in January last year (before covid ) and i had more than 30 fewers yet no sale and we accepted the only offer we've got but they turn us drown . .. the point is when the market is critical buyer will be more critical and since there is more available in the market its all a bout you luck .

Yes, but some houses need so much work they make you feel tired as you walk through, thinking how much more you’ll have to do after going through the exhausting effort of moving. At least with a clean house den up in neutral decor you feel as if you won’t have to make changes right away. If I have a choice between a nice looking home I can move into right away and one that’s going to require months of work or, worse, lots of repairs, I’ll take the nice place I can relax in right away. I daresay the sellers of these featured homes feel the same when they are out house hunting themselves.

selling your assets for a man is always a bad idea. a lovely redo, though! 1. add flowers outside - potted flowers, perhaps flower boxes, a house number would be nice, paint the front door, there was nothing to pull you in. 2. curtains need to be replaced (and of course, that carpet). Add some flowers inside. Note that a lot of what they said was a 70's time warp, like that paper lantern, they added that same thing to that lovely old home they redid. Make up your mind. 3. fresh paint also covers up smell, and replacing a carpet also helps. 4. That kitchen was LOVELY. One of the best I've seen on this show, and very clean.

We live in a whole new world. This is an old show, but it was cutting edge. In today's market, (plus a little thanks to programs like this,) you MUST stage your place to sell at value. My daughter did that with a bit of paint and some borrowed pieces. She got $7,000.00 over asking price.
@jinde75
@jinde75 2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the country think. . I viewed lots of places. Most were completely empty, seldom people lived in the place. It was never staged. The most important things are rhe overall state of the building, with multiple owners if they get along, how the place is heated, doea it have gas etc. And of course I always study the drawing of the apartment or house with the exact measurements. I live in Germany.
@yesiownfrodo
@yesiownfrodo Жыл бұрын
Absolutely agree! This house that I bought was not staged, and I got it for a STEAL. Not kidding. I paid 20K less than the staged one that I saw with a similar layout, etc. Staging brings people in and increases the price. If this one had had paint and a new kitchen floor it would have cost $20K more.

...So people were put off by her furniture?! Furniture that, yeah, was boring, but was clean and wouldnteven be there once the new people moved in! You could still envision your stuff there! Yikes, people are way too finicky. Also, the back yard not having anything of note leaves it open for whatever the new buyer wants. A regular backyard for the kids or a dog, or to dress it up as an actual garden. People in this show are often told to stop injecting their personality into the decor when time to sell, and yet now she's catching shit for having done exactly that. You can't frickin' win.

@RachelLWolfe
@RachelLWolfe 3 жыл бұрын
@@getlauriekor sure... but when you're talking about minor cosmetic fixes like painting walls and removing carpet, people need to be reasonable and use their imagination. When I sell my home, I'm not painting or replacing my furniture. The potential buyers have to understand that I still have to live there, and that my furniture isn't staying. I've never not purchased a house because I didn't like the color the walls were painted, or because I didn't like the owners decorating style. Their decor and furniture are leaving when they move. I have no problem painting walls, and actually prefer to do so, so that they are the color I want. As long as there is nothing major to be done, and there are no structural issues, plumbing issues, etc., and as long as the house has what I'm looking for, and is within my budget, I'm not going to cry over how dated their decor is. That's just me. I bought a house that had pepto-bismol-pink walls once. Guess what? I painted them. I hated their decor, but it wasn't staying. Once gone the house was a blank canvas. No big deal, because outside of that the house was what I needed and wanted.

For some reason they never showed us the whole backyard made over, just the patio corner. I didn't expect lush landscaping, but why just show the corner? @@mapleleaf0 I wasn't terribly impressed either. The back yard "makeover" was absolutely underwhelming. They removed a tiny patch of grass, and threw a table and some chairs in the corner. I was thinking they could have removed more grass in that area, and perhaps even removed more between the garage and the back door, to create a paved path between the two. Some simple potted plants could have spruced the area up. Not their best makeover at all. Underwhelmed. The living room didn't look lived in. It looked like a museum.

I bristle at the word "dated", implying that everything from past decades is bad. Tired and worn is bad, and some things (like the fluorescent lights in the kitchen and maybe that brown carpet) were unattractive a week after they were installed, but some older styles are timeless. A good realtor will try to downplay boring decor and furnishings, since they will all be gone when the owner moves, and will point out the real assets.

At least the brown carpet give it some color. The grey carpet blended into the walls to much and made the rooms even blander than they were before. Personally, I like little imperfections and the crafty look on and in the homes. There's just way too many cookie cutter houses out there now. My husband & I have been looking at different houses and homes for weeks now. We have honestly been more impressed by 10 year old mobile homes than stick built houses. Just about every house we have seen have all had white walls, white cabinets, white everywhere. There's not anything all at that stands out. Even the flooring is so light that they look more white than anything. Simply boring. I don't want to have to paint, strip cabinets and then varnish them, redo flooring and more plus pay top dollar for a boring house.

Nice reno! I am surprised that Sophie changed the carpet in this episode, when she did not change the smoky carpet in the other episode. The carpet looks like low-end Berber. The new outdoor patio is too far from the house. Who is trudging through grass to sit on the patio, or do a BBQ? They should have built the patio along the width of the house, outside the back door. The living room layout is awkward with the large chairs. You would walk into the chair or coffee table, going to and from the dining room. Too many cushions on the sofa and side chairs and bedroom! @21:41 (and 23:30, 25:35) The pillow on the right has been put on the sofa backwards, exposing the closure stitching, and it is NOT blind-stitching. This pillow needs to be flipped. I put zippers in the pillow covers that I make and always make sure that the zippers are on the bottom when placing the pillows. Based on the prices of other houses in her neighborhood, her price was still probably too high, even though it seems very low to me.

Agreed. In fact I don't understand the two coffee tables in the sitting room (one against the wall), and then one of them reappearing in the dining room for some of the shots. All the little nick-knacks didn't add to the look. Fewer, larger objects would have photographed much better.

Come on! The house was clean, neat and the furniture was fine. If you watched earlier versions of this show, you know that some of the houses the Unsellables crew tackled were dirty overcrowded bordering on hoarder house messes. Change the furniture around, add an area rug, change out curtains, voila - new house. Instead, they did a half-assed job replacing the kitchen ceiling light and didn't properly refinish the ceiling, the painting was sloppy, they put new carpeting on top of rotting dusty old padding that was underneath the 20 plus year old carpeting they'd removed - YUCK!

Agents will advise against it. They will tell you that with a vacant property, buyers feel disoriented trying to visualise whether the furniture they have in mind will look right or too cramped, so it creates uncertainty - particularly if the rooms are not big to begin with. An empty space always looks distorted sizewise. It also looks cold and institutional. t Staging halves the sale period compared to vacancy, that is why staging is the norm these days. of course there are always owners who will refuse to stage their home because they think they are saving money.

Although of course I want the house to have good bones and all the major systems to be in good condition there is more to it. I like being able to look at a well styles home and think how pretty it can be. I don't want look around and see dollar sings. New carpet? Ca-ching. Also it should be super clean so I don't have to clean someone else's dirt. I made that mistake with the house I have now. I didn't look well enough and because I have problems walking i had to hire a crew to clean it. It seems like a lot of you don't like these videos yet you keep watching them.

I am hoping the attorney is savvy enough not to upheave and move to Australia over an internet boyfriend. Meanwhile, Sophie drags out those tatty wallpaper "prints" and turquoise pillows that are a bit too familiar. For god's sake, the antique botanical print trend started in the UK, make use of it to add some class! Those bedrooms look like Hobby Lobby makeovers.
