You can take the generator and clutch basket off a 2005 zx10 and it's a straight swap to your 2004 zx10 just have to make sure the generator and clutch basket come from the exact same 05 bike.

Hi dave good video i have done this job a couple of times, had the same paranoia, with your drive gear being a C you wont find a suitable 2005 replacement, there none of that gear on the C2 parts list i did get an a complete generator off a C2 but the gears did not match so sold it on but i did do the shim check, seems a big tolerance for such a high speed gear.
@johndejager56732 жыл бұрын
Probably a stupid question but what might go wrong when gears 2004/2005 are mixed. Generator gears 2004 and 2005 look the same...
@obsession_engineering2 жыл бұрын
If the gears are coded the same, it's no problem, but if the coding is different there won't be the right backlash to allow for expansion so it'll either wear fast or just not fit.

Hi Dave, hope you're feeling revitalised after the TT. A quick question. You mention in this upload that one can put less of the spring washers/leaf springs in when reassembling the clutch. My 04 is tack only. Would you recommend this as a track modification? Thanks.

Thanks, Dave! Do I need a shim in there in place of the spring or is it OK without?

I hope it was that, rather than the dreaded valve spring retainers cracking or even shattering, had to do my mates zx10r 2012, after his cam turned in to chocolate and then cracked a valve spring retainer and dropping a valve, ouch. cost about £600 in parts and under pants.

Dave, according your video you did not repalce any component. You just disassembled that and put everything back. Is this mean that you solved the issue? .. I´m little bit aware of this repair and I don´t know which parts I will need to fix this "clutch or generator noise".

@obsession_engineering10 ай бұрын
I tend to do the bolts up in opposites, bit by bit. They should be 12nm but done up in 2 or 3 stages. If you change the gasket, make sure to get all the old gasket off both faces, as any old gasket can hold the cover off

Hi! Do I push the alternator shaft all the way in until it stops after engaging all the secondary tooth gears? If its all the way in, the gears are 2-3 mm further than the clutch housing gears. Or do I adjust it to be exactly flush with the clutch housing gears? Hope you understand what I mean 😅
@jumpsuiit2 жыл бұрын
Hi Dave! Great video! I just did this check now. I removed the clutch basket also but notice that my center bearing or bushing that you put in at around 16:25 in the video, refuses to go in from the front.. even with the clutch basket on a table it only goes in from the back! That is so strange. So now i cant put it back inside the bike . Any ideas?

Very strange, assume there's a Ridge worn on the front as I'm sure it should go from both sides. Worth a look!

Hi dave happy to see the old 10 getting the love it deserves am curious as to haw many kms this one has traveled? would you know wether the 05 c2 has the generator problem also ? my 05 is still running like a champ at 65000 km gets well maintained my mechanic mate who maintains it says its due a clutch, plates are thin but no rattles or slipping. he even has a new clutch basket lying around for a c2.
@obsession_engineering2 жыл бұрын
The c2 had a modified generator so no worries there. Some clutches seem to wear quicker than others, my original 04 race bike had to have a new basket after about 4000 miles, but others last to very big mileage. If yours is going strong at 65k I think you've looked after it well and probably won't have big problems
