Speaking as someone who also owns the hole set: 86 Grimlock: Was cool before the upgrades. (sans the lack of front teeth) 86 Slag/Slug: Name thing irrelevant, I love this guy. 86 Sludge: I guess I got one of the good ones. 86 Snarl: I CALLED IT! I CALLED IT! I KNEW THIS DUDE WOULD BE IN THE LINE! THANK YOU HASBRO! 86 Swoop: The show did have animation errors. So maybe having Swoop being taller is one of them. And I think the reason Swoop is shorter (in toy form), is couse he's the youngest. Like how Bumblebee is the youngest of the autobots. Also, I like in the UK, and I'm fine with that stuff. Oh cool, you're doing Combiner Wars/Takara Legends Ultra Magnus. I planned to get that one BEFORE I got the Kingdom version.

The only continuity where swoop is way smaller than the rest of the dinobots is in FoC, and that's mainly because they made grimlock 5 times bigger than everyone else.

Yesterday (sat. Oct 19th 2024) at my local Gamestop I seen they had a Siege Jetfire on the shelf, new in box! I already own it, but what a shock to see this on a store shelf in 2024! They also have had Earthrise Optimus, and as far as newer releases, they have had the 3 pack go bots repaints in a few times! Sorry to ramble, but what a pleasant surprise to find treasures on a store shelf!

they have reissued both Siege Jetfire this year (again after several past reissues), as well as ER Optimus just before SS86 Optimus got announced. i was lucky enough to find both of these reissues in the same store back in July. i got myself Jetfire and 86 Springer but i didn't grab ER Optimus

Granted, the scale in G1 is all over the place, but the "War of the Dinobots" episode constantly shows the Dinobots being larger than Optimus. They tower over him in multiple shots where he's even closer to the foreground than they are. I'd wager this is the episode where this size scale comes from and was the one burned into my brain from childhood. That being said, there's several shots of Swoop standing beside Snarl there and he is not shorter.

Quite possibly, or it could just be the logical observation that they seem like they are bigger. Or it could come from the Introduction of them at the start of the show, where their Dino Modes are like 4 times bigger than everyone else.

I agree, that the reason for changing Slag's name is inexcusable, since his name is based on the noun slag: useless material, unable to be used in any way shape or form, left over after the smelting process of turning iron ore into steel.

For Slag, his leg kibble, SS86 opted to use his tail as the kibble. Fanstoys opted to fold the tail in, while using his dino legs as leg kibble. I believe FT is more accurate in this regard.

I know that Swoop is considered the “weak link” in the modern 86 Dinobot set but I absolutely love him. He’s a 5 out of 5 in my view, plus he came with swords none of the others did!

Personal dinobot list as someone who has them all: 1st Grimlock: Great robot mode,accurate transformation,great alt mode. 2nd Snarl: Great robot mode, accurate transformation and good dino mode(tail placement looks like he's pooping it out). 3rd Swoop: Good robot mode (could've been slimmer), accurate transformation (at least it ain't over complex for the sake of it unlike my #4). And less perfect dino mode (also could've been slimmer and had a longer wingspan.) 4th Sludge: Good robot mode with poor QC, unecessarily complex transformation and what would've been a great dino mode if not for the gold toes sticking out. 5th Slag: Good Dino mode but an altered transformation coupled with the decision to turn the Dino tail into a backpack instead of splitting the tail and folding the halves into the robot shins resulted in a mid robot mode. He deserved better.

Sludge also has the best price,I found one on clearance recently for $25 and he's huge.When I set him next to a figure I gave the same price for like SS86 bumblebee the size difference is crazy,sludge is definitely the best value I've gotten when it comes to price vs weight/size.

My copy of Slag isn’t quite as bad with the backpack. He’s the only Dinobot I own but due to the passable backpack on mine I’d genuinely call him an 8/10 figure.

I think there's a trick with the backpack. It took me a while to figure out how to get it to consistently stay. Once I did, I can pick him up by the tail, if I do it just right. If I unfold the tail, & grab the bit with vent detailing, I can even tip him horizontal.

My first experience with the 86 Grimlock mould was with the comic deco. And it was kinda meh. Then I got the Shattered Glass deco, and it just clicked for me. It is an absolutely amazing figure. Such a brilliant figure

I loved this list and though I was surprised to see 86 Sludge get the number 1 spot, I can’t say that I disagree. It was the Dinobot I was most excited for of the bunch, he has a huge alt mode, he feels like a real Leader class figure in robot mode, the panels on his back fold in to make it look like he’s wearing a hood/cape, and I love the giant hand cannon accessory he came with. His gun looks like it can blast anything into oblivion, even the likes of Galvatron, selling Sludge as a great Leader class figure. The joins on my copy are a bit loose, but it’s nothing that affects him too much, and I can still pose him well.

I love the look of Slag. Somehow the red and gold does it for me, and the backpack resembles a nice golden cloak (to me at least). I had the G2 Slag as a child, and back then I thought its transformation was kinda arse because of the need to squeeze the tail between the folded legs. The SS86 one has a similar-ish transformation but with more steps. Nice looking toy but the transformation is a bit of a chore.

The Transformers Studio Series 86 Dinobots are awesome. Looking forward to what else Hasbro will use them all for. Like G2 color repaints, and having them fight the upcoming SS86 Devastator like in the 86 movie. Do these guys have their problems, sure. But I'm just glad to have the original cast of G1 Dinobots in my Transformers collection. Now Hasbro, get to making the Age of Extinction Dinobots! TF4 Grimlock needs the rest of his legendary warriors to charge into battle.

I HATE handling sludge, my copy of snarl has a broken elbow joint, swoop and slag are underwhelming, so for me Grimlock is the best. Even still I love all of them. (even if part of the reason is just that they exist)

I have Grimlock, slag and sludge and I can say that Grimlock is my favorite figure that I own in my entire collection, slag and sludge are great too though, my sludge kinda has loose hips but I’ve always been pretty tolerant of QC and he can stand just fine so it doesn’t bother me too much

That Ultra Magnus is exactly the same size as the G1 toy, if you have one of those, and while I'm not ssure about the TRakara version specifically the one I got from some guiy in Germany is exactly the same shade of light blue as well. As for the video's subject, despite getting a Sludge with slightly weak knees (he can stay upright reliably in a static pose even when the 200-year-old house bounces as someone walks across the floor or slams a door or the wind blows, but won't hold a more cynamic stance for more than a few seconds) I agree that he has the best overall accuracy and most interesting transformation. A think Banana Grimlock deserves an honorable mention for wearing his XTREEM 80s neon with pino and teal accents like he's the coolest kind in the skate park all over again, but I'm still lo0oking forward to the classic colors rerelease in the spring anyway.

When they reissued the slag they fixed the wings. However mine has a Qc issue with the shoulder. Still a good figure.
