Just discovered your channel today and I’m binge watching hyperfocus style😂 You had me dying at the comment of being a strong person to listen to you for 2 hours on end. Since I’ve been listening for 5 hours now and planning to continue for at least 2 more hours😅😂 I’m picking up 3 new ferrets that lived 3,5 hours driving from my home. Thanks so much for doing a series on kibble! I have an autoimmune disease so raw isn’t safe to feed for me. Also my ferrets are rescues, before I got them they were used as lab animals (so horrible and sad) and were tested on with god only knows what. And it really did a number on their overall health too. Especially their digestive system is very sensitive so they eat a very high grade, high protein kibble. It’s called Virbac Baby Pre-neutered Cat, please check it out! My ferrets do really well on it and it comes recommended by my ferret specialized vet 👍 Also a tip for people who have really sick ferrets who need a quick energy boost/ calorie bomb, but that don’t do well eating duck soup: get them to eat Royal Canin Recovery Liquid. It has everything they need, is easy on their digestive system and after they get used to it they tend to love the taste! Use it only for emergencies though, ‘cause there is some sugar in there and too much sugar isn’t good for ferrets.

I'm also a follower on here . MANY people ask me about my feeding routine with my 5 ferrets (and I do the rotation method but didn't know it had a name lmao) but when I tell other ferret owners use can food and air dried cat food they LOOK at ME like I'm NUTS. Just direct me to ferret kibble PLZ dries me CRAZY !!! I feel bad when they ask advice don't follow it . NOW I hand OUT Lil pieces of paper with Kenya site on it with EVERY FERRET purchase . Thank you do much kenya! Im gonna be honest I just started watching you like a few weeks ago since I have bern looking to get two new baby boys for the first time. You have been providing me with so much helpful information, as well as various other ferret owners I have been looking at. I’ve been trying to find good kibble for the boys since I’ve learned that marshals kibble was definitely not the way to go (not just marshals kibble thats just the first thing that came to my head) I wanted to do a raw diet but for really a bunch of reasons I can’t however I want to provide the best for them I possibly can at the moment. Yay!!! I'm really excited for this series! I also love that you're not focusing on brands and having people do the research for themselves too. I'm always looking out for new brands or new products to try to find what is best for my business! (It was also so frustrating before when everyone would suggest ziwipeak and wysong back when I got my beans... Those were really hard to find in Canada and most local stores wouldn't carry them. Even now Wysong is for sale for $140 for a bag - I'm thinking it was possibly discontinued? Which is unfortunate because my ferrets did really well on the mix I had with it- so this is great timing as I look for a replacement!)

you should see if anyone near you sells Zeal! I haven't looked into the brand too much, but it's a newish Canadian made air dried food that's a lot cheaper! Their cat line has 3 flavors from what I remember. The salmon and turkey (i think that's what it was anyway) has too much fish in it, in my opinion, but I think they also have a plan beef and plain turkey. From what I've seen they look pretty good! I haven't done any extensive research on them yet though.

@@FriendlyNeighborhoodFerrets I did try that one! It does look great and worked well for a bit but one of my ferrets ended up getting really bad poops and got sick after about 2 weeks on it. He stopped eating it (or any food mixed with it) so I gave it to my dad for his new cat instead 😅. I'm not sure if it was because it has bamboo in it and he reacted poorly to it, but my other ferret was just fine. I may try it again in the future with a different version because I was giving them the Salmon and Turkey, so it could have also been the fish content.

@@3amhellbeast honestly I bet it was the fish. Ferrets CAN eat fish and its good to give them about a meal a week of it (or the equivalent to that if fish is in a kibble), but it's high in fat so when it makes up a bigger portion of a diet its not good for them and can cause liver issues. I'm going to be talking more about it in a video in this series 😊 Try the turkey or beef one next time ❤

That probably was it, especially if I was also feeding the lamb and mackerel ziwipeak with it (I have them on a rotation of different ziwipeak foods to give them a bit of variety and it's possible I may have rotated in both at the same time one day 😅, but I've since switched to just the lamb and chicken ones anyways and plan on introducing the venison to see how they like it). I'm hoping it will work because I love supporting more local canadian businesses when I can, plus my ferrets love birds so Turkey may become a new favorite 😂 (probably not though, I think duck will always be their favorite. Which I wish there was a good duck kibble available out there! Haha)

Oh yes, I was holding of reordering the Versele Laga half of the kibble mix I feed my ferrets. We will need an alternative, or I should start feeding more portions of the raw part of their diet. My first rescue loves her raw food. But my latest rescues don't want any kind of raw or even cooked meats. They will ONLY eat kibble. This seemed weird to me at first. But they are healthy and happy so it's ok lol.

I have a new raw fed private bred kit coming home soon so I want to keep him raw feeding...wondering how to keep the girls having access to their Ziwi Peak air dried food but not let the boy get to it since he will be getting frozen raw & FDR..

Hi Kenya, thanks a lot for this video. I think it's quite an interesting topic. As a future owner of ferrets, I know I am not the kind of person/I am not in a lifestyle to provide raw food to my pets, so I am quite interested in these series. Just a couple of comments: - For those of us who are not english-native speakers, I always appreciate your English: it is very understandable, full of cute jokes and easy to follow. Just there are parts where you share information that usually I have to stop the video or read the captions. Not because I do not understand, but to digest all the information, like in the list of rules from today's video. Just wanted to comment that, not for you to change the way you do it (I really love it!!!) but just for you taking into account. Not a real problem indeed: youtube gently allow us to stop and rewind :) - Just an idea that came to my mind while watching the video (but also thought about that random thought while doing some research...) Don't get me wrong, and I do not want to hurt any sensibility here, but... don't you think that ferrets are a little bit...how to say it... weak, in terms of general health? Do you think that there is a possibility that mother nature is doing its work to get them extinct (for whatever reason)? Thanks again for your video and exemplary dedication. :)

In North America and Japan, ferrets have been taken up by mills and bred so poorly that some significant health issues pose a HUGE problem for them. Cancer (a heckin lot of it), heart disease, and more. That’s why it’s always recommended to have savings for potential issues, a couple thousand at least per ferret.

If I go to a pet store and see a good brand (for example Ziwipeak or something) do you think I could get it from there or should I not trust it and go online to buy?

There are plenty of good brands for sale at pet stores! It's places like walmart and costco that generally don't have good quality brands. I always recommend looking at local places first (and if you can find an independent non-chain store that's even better). Just keep in mind that a lot of times staff aren't trained in the nutritional requirements of ferrets, so they may not be giving you the right advice. Always do your own research along with what they tell you.

I have my ferrets on a freeze dried raw diet, but I want to find kibble that is good for ferrets because my ferrets like to eat cat food! So, if they’re going to steal the cat food, at least I know it’s not a low quality one.
