Can't wait to get the book in my hands. I just started looping for practicing purposes and I really love the possibilities for either record yourself to get a feeling of how you really sound (yes, with all of the timing issues or inconsistencies in sound and phrasing) or just for getting a fast backing track. In this book I'd really like to see four main things: - The first loop and getting the damn Timing right (maybe including practicing advises and what to put in the looper at the first round) - Song building and stacking up loops in an efficient and/or creative way - Ideas how to handle Bridges or different chord changes in general - How to line up and use multiple loopers I also use the mini ditto looper, just because it records in 24 bits and not just CD-Quality. A real boost in sound quality imho. Have you ever some issues with the ditto loopers? I have the feeling, that my looper doesn't work right.

Looks like a nice and concise setup. Looking forward to the book. Thanks man

I actually wrote a book on looping. It's mainly for guitarists, because that's what the publisher wanted and it is about simple looping pedals too. Nothing with MIDI or multiple buttons, which is not too everyone's liking, but there's only so much you can cover in a book. It covers the very beginning (which looper should you get and how does it work) and goes into pretty complex stuff in the last two chapters (how to use it as a practice tool, and how to make it a tool to enhance your creativity). There are many things covered you also mention, like percussive layers, staying out of the way of the other layers, splitting your parts up sonically/frequency wise, even using two loopers and other effects. I would have loved to explore the final two chapters more, since this is where it gets really interesting and more advanced. The live looping part is also not heavily featured at all, and it would be great to see you write about that, since you are the absolute authority in the field! I'd love to send you a copy of my book, if you're interested. Hopefully it can inspire you a little bit, even if it only gives you one new idea (not that I think you haven't thought of it all) so I can thank you for the immense amount of inspiration you have given me the last few years.

x2 is stereo in too, which can be two monos, so guitar and bass or two basses can both plug in at the same time. Feeding either two or the same amp.

Funny that i was looking for loop pedal reviews to decide which one to buy thinking "if only i could find a review from Yanek Gwizdala" If anyone knows about loop pedals and different ways to use them in a brilliant way, it's you Sir ;) Greetings from Berlin, the last show with Bob here a month ago was amazing, I'm very glad you guys made it safely home ;) Much Love and respect :)

Hey Janek! Congratulations on your wedding, very happy for you guys! So.. How do you manage when you have a part A and part B on one song and you have to change between both parts. how do you do it? do record just one of the parts and the other you do it without loop? How can we have both parts recorded and skip between the two freely? thank you for your help!!

Q for the book - When looping how do you keep it fresh? It is so easy to get into a formulaic approach w loops. We all love a groove > beat > solo and the beat > groove > solo, but that gets old even if your musical ideas are unique. How do you get to song writing beyond those basic formula concepts so you can have a versatile live set?

That is great that you were writing a book on looping, I think a lot of Bass Player’s these days need a great solid resource for that. What are some tips and tricks to nailing the 1, when you’re setting up the loop, so it doesn’t sound lopsided in a live setting?

I don't use multiple loopers in parallel, I use them in series. I sample from one to another to create a new loop, clean out the first looper, and essentially give myself a fresh channel to record in. It's like a mini mixing board, but in series instead of synced in parallel.

Can you clear out a loop without clearing the whole stack? Is there an noise or signal artifact when clearing a loop?
@OnlineNumberOne5 жыл бұрын
Would be nice to hear how to layer tracks and make them sound diffirently. I remember some time ago you did explain how you pluck strings for percussion to make tonal diffirence between "kick drum" and "hi-hat", or somethin like this. So I'm looking forward for something like this for everything else. How to make chords sound and melody, so they won't sound way to much alike. Maybe some tweak some eq settings or add effects or again change right or left technic. Thanks!)

Carrying a bag full of pedals to connect up once you hit the gig seems like an unnecessary added step to me. Obviously I missed the bit where you said why you don't carry a connected-up pedal board with you?

Hi Janek, I've been using loop pedals live both as a solo bassist and ambient soundscape artist with mutiple instruments for about five years and I'm curious as to your insights on a couple of things. First, do you ever listen to a metronome with headphones for the first loop depending on how complex or how many bars it is? Or have you always just woodshedded timing enough to where you nail it live? Also, I have a project that involves a drummer and live looping and I'm wondering if you've ever used a mixer to run the loop through a drummer's headphones to help them stay on time. This is an issue that I know drummers have had since loop pedals first became a thing. I recently got a Ditto X2 to try the beat sense mode but I've noticed that you can't record a loop on your own without drums or it gets super confused about the tempo and fluctuates wildly. Thanks so much!

Hi Janek, great content as always, I have a question, when transitioning from one to the other, do you need two loopers, or is there a way around it using only one, it just seems to mess up the groove, when I remove stuff and try to start a new thing

@kchang89775 жыл бұрын
@Groove Connected to that point, I remember him saying he was going to try a series of smaller pedalboards. I think we need to invent a modular system and make $$$. It might seem redundant, but there should be an in between system from full pedalboard to loose pedals.
