What's The Best Refill for the Ohto Horizon Pen?

I have found that with a slight amount of work the refill for the uni style + fit (UMR-109-05) to be the best. It is a gel refill with a 0.5 mm size and plenty of colors to choose from, with a low price point. All you have to do is cut the refill to match the stock size, which it does without having to worry about hitting the ink level. Then just crimp wings into the plastic with a pair of needle nose pliers. Just make sure to do so at the same spot as the stock refill and you will be fine.

Nice videos. I personally love the budget stuff your doing. Lots of people do fountain pens which is fine. But I like your refill stuff and cheap pen videos keep it up

Yeah I suppose you're right. The roller balls and ballpoints are cheaper and more practical. And we need more reviews on them. Keep up the great work Sal!

Jet Pens also has a list compatible refills for various pens. Like others have said, I’m glad I ran across this channel since you show really nice but inexpensive pens. I was going a little crazy for awhile craving solid gold nibbled fountain pens.

I purchased this pen as well as both the Uni S-7S ballpoint and Pilot Hi-Tec-C Slim gel refills. I wasn't interested in just another oil-based ink refill, so I decided not to get the BTRF. I agree with Sal regarding the look of the Uni's refill tip in this particular pen which I prefer over that of the needlepoint. However, I'm much more interested in how the ink looks on paper, so the Hi-Tec-C gets my vote. I find it leaves a more darker and consistent line, even at its 0.4 mm tip size. I also find that the blue and blue-black produces a more richer ink line than the black; go figure! Again, thanks for the video!

I’m currently using a Jetstream SXR-80-05 from a Jetstream 4&1 pen. I had to wrap tape around it several times for the spring to catch, but it’s totally worth the effort to be able to write with Jetstream ink in this pen!

Agree. I'm using the Jetstream SXR-80-07 refils - bit thicker line. But great ink.

Sal, I just wanted to share a hack for this pen. Once the pilot super grip g xb refills have used enough ink you can cut it down to the size of the ohto refill. Then apply tape around the refill where the 'ears' are on the ohto refill. You can now use a pilot xb in the ohto!

After watching your review, I change the refill to the Pilot Gel you suggested and it gives the pen a new life. Recently, a relative of this pen, namely "OHTO Horizon Gel 0.5mm" comes out. I'm wondering if you know whether they share the same refills.

Not sure if you still have this pen, but does your click mechanism get stuck sometimes? Just got one from Amazon and it sticks, won’t retract the refill without a nudge. Anyways, love the reviews!

@@romainorsat8267 Hey Romain, I think I got sent the wrong refill. But I've found the PILOT LHSRF-8C4-L refill does the job. All the same smooth inkflow you get from a Hi-Tec C in a smaller format

The PG 105NP was previously known as the PG 805NP. And is very different in shape and size. Has no wings, however still might fit due to the thicker part of the refill body. I can't see any reason for it not to fit, but I haven't tested it. Where I buy mine from in the UK both the ballpoint and Gel version pen bodies are the same. Except the gel pen has no side mounted return button. I'll be checking this out.

@@unsharpen thank you for your response, i've been thinking about the acro for a long time but don't want to place an order where i'm just buying one refill so that is the only thing holding me back, that acro might be my last hope before i do a refill hack which i really don't like doing, unless it's something really simple, my hacks for multi pens like the pilot dr grip frixion is keeping the part of the original refill that sticks into the hole and then cutting my preferred refill down to size and then taping them together which can look a bit awkward sticking out and of course you can't click them out like the normal refill so that fun part is taken away, but the hack does improve my experience with the pen i will mention that the Zebra EQ Surari refill works perfectly with the Uni-ball RE3, all you have to do is cut it down to size, but again the clicking part is taken away, you can still click it but the refill remains sticking out but it's a fun and excellent refill compared to the dumb refill Uni-ball gives you, erasable ink from the company that constantly brags about their document proof ink, very confusing to me why they don't have a regular refill for the RE3f thank you pen friend
