I am 47. I do stronglifts. I teach jiujitsu 2 days a week and train for myself 2 days a week. I have been doing jiujitsu for 17 years. It is hard to lift and train. But yeah, i am finding that every 3 weeks i need to cut back to 2 days of lifting for a few weeks to allow for recovery. The systemic fatigue is very real. I start sleeping all the time and can't do anything else. The added strength is a game changer though. Keeping up with all those young guys is proof enough that the strength training is necessary 😊

I've been doing bjj for 15 years. I dropped 35 lbs the first 6 months. A friend of mine started at 295 and after the first 2 years, dropped down to 210 and got his black belt about 1.5 yes ago, and he's in his 40s also. Def overtraining. Bjj is like judo. Weight training with a resisting object (training partner). He may want to take a week off from weight training immediately. Precovid, I was doing bjj 3-4 days week, and 2 days/wk weights (clean and press and Bench press 3-4 sets each)

I'm 40 and my routine is BJJ 2 x per week and weights 2 x per week. I'm active on the other days and randomly do pushups and bodyweight squats or hang from a pullup bar. These random bits are not meant to be challenging, rather they're meant to get blood circulating and get a pump and/or stretch

Its a difficult pill to swallow as a hard gainer. I lost a decent amount of muscle and aesthetics (but not strength) from training bjj 3-4x a week and lifting 2-3x a week because I wasn’t recovering enough. I want to train jiu jitsu and build that skill but not being a skinny twerp in the process
