my fav is the '61, kingpin front end for that go cart handling, and a short wheelbase for quick handling! oh and the good ole 40 horse motor!

My dad and I just picked up a 1969 ghia for free from a friend who lost his storage for the car. Engine is seized but that should be a simple fix. I like the irs Ghias as well.

For me it's anything before 64! That's when the cooler large Karmann script barge was released. Anything after 70 with the ugly modern indicators I'm not a fan of as well. I can't remember when they put the gas tank filler cap on the outside? think it was the late 60's. I personally like the idea of doing it old school and having to open the hood lol. I just made the first video of my car that as someone with no body work experience will be trying to fix lol 😅 Great video guys! Look forward to seeing more!

im pretty fond of my 65 -kingpin front end all the early parts, no emergency flasher crap (its also a berg 5 speed with a 8000 rpm 2332 !) It runs low 11s off the nitrous

I have to agree with the 68 or 69 as far as fun to drive. Irs and the small turn signals a plus. I do however love the early lowlights. Kinda like asking which bus is best. 23 window or the barn door panel. Hell, if it's an aircooled vw, it's fine and dandy. Yes and the daily driven notches toooo.

I’m glad I didn’t bring my Ghia to you eight years ago for some work. You’d still have it! “What’s the plan for this car?” “I don’t remember, that was two years ago and I haven’t started”.
@AirkooledKustoms3 жыл бұрын
Ha - yeah, we've had a few projects come in where that's what happened for the owners. The record was 16 years at some other shop before it came to us. Our fastest build was 8 months, but the norm is closer to a year (as long as the client's checkbook can keep up... and the supply chain isn't in pandemic mode).

I have a 1966 coupe, but in my opinion a 69 kg would be nice because it has IRS rear suspension at front disc brakes, with a old style body with the smaller tail lights

The best year was 1967 without a doubt. It had the 1500 (1493) cc engine with 53 HP and NO antipollution devices. So it gave the best weight/power relation. It wasn't the fastest but, who wants speed when driving a Karmann Ghia?

So sad to hear about leakage on verts. I thought it was an issue with mine only and was gonna hire someone to fix it. So this means i got no hope. Its a ‘71 vert. Is that a waste of money to restore?
@AirkooledKustoms3 жыл бұрын
Great question. NO! But you have to remember that all convertibles will leak at some point - especially if they're left to sit out or you drive in the rain. Just the nature of the beast, unfortunately. However, definitely not a waste of money to restore. In fact, verts tend to have a higher market value. Plus, all the non-monetary value of enjoying your Dub.

@@AirkooledKustoms 🥰 Made my day hearing that. Sooo true!! You really can’t put a price on joy, pride, history of a vehicle that’s 50 years old now. Thank you for everything you do for our small community.

1 big one, 4 smaller ones for the main body (a bunch of other small metal pieces that could be added into the count).
