I own the same Scree 32L backpack...it is my "go-to" hiking Daypack...absolutely pleased with it. Once I discovered Mystery Ranch, I never purchased a backpack from anyone else. I recently took delivery of a Mystery Ranch Catalyst 26L...it will be my streamlined Urban / Travel / EDC daypack.

I love your reviews for your honesty. Thank you for keeping it real, honest, and sincere. You hit the nail on the head, I don't look to watch and interact with the guy who claims to know it all, just someone who wants to explore some cool stuff and help their viewers get the most for their money and enjoy the outdoors like you do as a result. Keep up the great work!

Great review. Just for added info, to get the organization and fabric you were looking for you need to look at their military line (3 Day Assault, Urban Assault, etc.) it’s what I use and they are bomb proof. I have had the fortune of getting these issued as well as buying my daily carry bag. They really make their money in the suspension systems and their ability to be custom fit to the user. I also think Hill People Gear is a closer competitor. One of my favorite bags for carrying 100+lbs is actually a bag made in limited amounts for special operations called the Kelty Kodiak. The bag is made by Kelty and the suspension and load lifting was made by Mystery Ranch.

I have this exact pack. I used it for day hikes in Alaska last summer and for antelope hunting (spot and stalk) in Wyoming this fall. The pack performed flawlessly and I couldn’t be happier with it.

I bought a Scree early last spring and have used it on ~45 day hikes since. Loads of 20-25 lbs on hikes of between 2 and 7 hours in duration. Love the pack. Very comfortable. The arm straps, hip belt, and sternum straps are very easy to adjust on the fly. My only gripe is the weight, but that is par for the course with Mystery Ranch. I'd buy one again in a second.

I have to this day a jansport daypack I have used since 1978. Spent summers using that baby for 2 week resupply. My fav fannypack was a mountainsmith. My Dana Terraplane from 1998 is still my fav. Enjoyed your review.

Answer: YES they are! I have a 70L Mystery Ranch Glacier and a 22L Hardscrabble. I've had the USMC FILBE that they had a hand in designing and was just sold on their expertise. Lifetime warranty is also a big plus. I've been through an assortment of brands including Gregory and UDT and Frost River and USGI packs, but when it comes to recreational packs, I'm set on Mystery Ranch. The comfort is unbelievable and they have all the options I need.

A good comparison would be with a Camelbak Tri-zip, which is a Mystery Ranch design and uses the same yoke system.
@WaldenDustin5 жыл бұрын
I purchased the CamelBak tri zip, back in 2010 while stationed overseas and I still use it to this day. The ONLY issue it has is the Velcro retainers for the excess straps is starting to fray and I’ve put this thing through the ringer. I got my $200 worth times over. Only real complaint was the lack of pockets, I’d like to see more interior pockets, preferably lined with Velcro to customize the layout with modular pouches.

I’ve seen the Osprey Exos 38 for $110 with the 7 liter removable floating lid which makes it a competitive option. The medium is 38 liters. The small is 34 liters so, basically the same size with the lid included. The belt is removable

The bag design is optimized for climbing. It's based off the 3 day assault pack mystery ranch makes. Got mine 5 years ago where it performed great as assault pack and i am now using it for canyoneering. The design allows for the carrying of your climbing equipment and to be able to access it while doing so.

I thought long and hard about this pack last year when searching for a new rugged daypack, but ultimately went with the Mayhem 35. I haven't regretted it, love the Mayhem, but your rave review of the suspension will keep this in the back of my mind. Funny everyone else in your video is wearing a Mayhem, or so it seemed. The pack is a great value for what it does and I've worn it for around 30 hikes this year. I've watched 3 of your videos so far and each one presents a comparison between 2 or 3 products I've focused on purchasing. So far I'm loving the channel.

Always very good review. Yes! Considering the top lid access with compression straps, pockets along the inside that may be utilized from the top just makes sense. Then the price tag is more reasonable. Thanks

A point and a question. When you buy a Dana Gleason pack what you are buying is the suspension system. Best in the marketplace for for 40 years. I have owned Dana Designs original Terraplane, the Glacier, and his modern iterations as Mystery Ranch. Yes, I am old. The Scree is my go-to camera/video/ski/long day hike bag. It is superb. If you are looking for one bag that do it all and not have to buy multiple packs this is the one. Now the question. What Mountainsmith padded camera box is that you pulled out of the Scree and what can you get in it? TYIA.

Great review, and I love the mail bag. Also, I just wanted to say that you made a lot of good points when you were referencing survival, bushcraft, backpacking, gear reviewers and so on. Those seem to have all been lumped together into one broad term that most people refer to as "survival." Moreover, it seems to have been exacerbated with the popularity of the show Alone. People tend to think because they go on a couple car camping trips a year, that they could somehow be thrust into that environment, and survive for 4 or 6 or 8 months alone on Vancouver Island or in Mongolia. It takes a very specific skill set and mindset to be able to survive alone in an area that you've never even been to.

After watching it seems mystery ranch isnt what u want. Vanquest is made to be for organization while mystery ranch is a dump pack. Also many MR packs are made for frames and load hauling. While the Vanquest isnt made for much over 30lbs

#mailbag. Realize there are many strong opinions on this topic, but with big choppers going over 1 lb, and small hand axes starting under 1-1/2 lbs, at what point do you personally switch from knife to hand axe?

Really expensive for what amounts to a mediocre dump pack with a decent strap system... I'm also not a fan of the Y opening that most of their packs seem to have. If you're going to pay that much I'd definitely go with Vanquest. I know I'm kind of a Vanquest fanboy but it's not for nothing. The material is top notch, the layout and options are fantastic on most of their bags and packs, modularity, expandability, all amazing. You can get so much better for the money IMO...
