"I'm not quite sure how did that" Having confidence is key! It is power! I know you said you weren't athletic at that time, but I'd say you are considering you made it with time to spare! You sprinting across 125th Street makes you even more of an honorary New Yorker! Be proud of yourself for believing! Of course it's not the cheapest way, but you managed to make it to Bard which is the point, and you did a cheap way for the trip back! That aside, I had a feeling traffic was gonna ruin it once I saw you were heading to the GWB...there's a reason I've never taken a bus over that bridge! The R32s were something! Kinda miss being able to stand all the way up front as if I was the one driving the train. Fun facts: The Apollo Theater opened in 1913 as Hurtig & Seamon's Music Hall! It was designed by George Keister who also worked on the First Baptist Church on the Upper West Side, as well as the Selwyn Theatre (now the American Airlines Theatre). And Poughkeepsie is derived from a word in Wappinger language, U-puku-ipi-sing which means "the reed-covered lodge by the little-water place", referring to the stream that runs through downtown!

How did you spend the weekend: Me: Down the shore on Saturday, Watched the Phills game on Sunday and Chilled Miles: Spent the least amount and highness stress level for the cheapest way to Upstate NY and back.
@anthony32462 жыл бұрын
There's a cheaper way to get to Poughkeepsie. If you take the beeline bus to the Jefferson valley mall you can connect to Putnam transit to Patterson (via transfer), get on a train to pawling and then take dutchess transit to Poughkeepsie. I've done it once.

Great video Miles! Can't believe I'm just seeing this now, as I've been a fan of the channel and a student in Poughkeepsie for a while. I actually went from NY to Poughkeepsie for only $10.90 by using some weird Putnam County Trolley that only runs on weekends between Memorial Day to Veterans Day (why) 1) Shuttle to Grand Central, then 4 train to Woodlawn ($2.90) 2) Bee-Line 20 bus from Woodlawn to White Plains Trans Center (free transfer); 8:10-9:05AM 3) Bee-Line 14 bus from WPTC to Peekskill Washington St ($2.75); 9:24-11:04AM 4) Hudson Line from Peekskill to Cold Spring ($3.25); (the darien gap for inter-county bus transit in the hudson valley) 11:11-11:27AM 5) Cold Spring Trolley from Cold Spring to Beacon Station ($2); 12:14-12:45PM 6) Dutchess County Transit B (free for me :D); (but $1.75 otherwise) 1:05-1:57PM is 4 hours of my life worth it to save $9.10? *absolutely*

11:30 is so relatable. one time I was taking one of the last trains out of penn station to get back to where I parked in seacaucus and it was about to leave. tried both my cards at the ticket machine? failed. had to put in a 20 and reviled at the horror of 17 dollar coins. they're still floating around in my car like 10 months later. same day the same thing happened to me with quarters. I can confidently park anywhere in the US now though so maybe it was a blessing

I know this is a bit late but, Being from Poughkeepsie and a decently avid commuter railfan, it feels kinda weird that someone would stop and record/upload a video featuring a station which is the start/end point for many of my journeys. I'm not complaining though. I personally consider anywhere north of the Hudson Highlands to be upstate (Beacon and Newburgh are a good reference). BTW, if you walk up Main Street and then turn right on Market Street you will end up at the transfer hub. Some fun facts: Poughkeepsie was the State Capital before it moved to Albany and after Kingston and where New York ratified the Constitution. Also, Morse code and cough drops were invented here. Along with that, Alex Goot and the Chairman of Disney are from here.
