Several sessions ago as a reward for one of the battles we were getting a couple of magic swords. At first it was going to be two plus one long swords but the DM changed one of them to a short sword to benefit my Ranger. That was nice of him because my Ranger dual wields. Just last session after defeating a mummy Lord I got an oath bow. Now that is going to be fun to snipe my enemies.

At the beginning of each campaign, one of my DMs creates a music video from our characters' artwork and various anime clips to make music videos to act as our campaign's opening theme. At the end of the campaign (or any time in the middle really) we get to look back at it with hindsight and get to play a wonderful game of Spot The Foreshadowing.

during my first campaign, i was playing a barbarian named Door. ive mentioned him before. in any case, helms deep was under siege by orcs. i had recently finished FFVI and was still impressed that sabin could suplex a train. my DM gave door a set of gauntlets of fire giant strength. and when door rushed onto the battlefield and broke his door on a siege tower, my DM let attempt to suplex the siege tower. i didnt roll for this, my DM gave this to me. a 50 ft siege tower got suplexed and obliterated by a bumbling idiot. after that, door attempted to suplex every siege tower he could see.

The coolest thing one of my DMs ever did... He made the (estranged) grandpa of my character into a PC. Not an NPC, but a PC, that another player is playing at our table now. That moment when the DM revealed the name of our new party member... it blew me away. It took my bland tragic 'my entire family was murdered' backstory, and catapulted it into something epic.

If i ever dm I’m going to use multi-Versal gimmicks to have the party meet characters from past campaigns in completely different roles. The old lich king that was the beg from their first campaign? Now a librarian with an ego problem. The 5-star chef with a fiery passion for his art? Now a barbarian always ready to jump into a fray to chop it to minced meat, that kind of stuff. That goes for the players characters as well, and maybe even some of mine, I’ve come up with ideas for a setting in which a kobold I made would unironically make a great boss (not really a kobold since said setting involves changes to that particular race, but I’m sure the players would recognize him and be hyped as long as they remembered him)

Well, it's maybe not COOL, but everytime I run a new campaign, I'll give the players handmade miniatures of their characters. I'm not the best artist or anything, but it helps get everyone excited for the next campaign, and I think it's a good way to thank them for playing.

I had a gnome wizard who was part of a group that had to find and rescue a group of children that had gone missing. The BBEG was powerful enough that we couldn't be sure we could actually beat it. After a fight wasn't going our way, he made an offer. He'd give the kids back and wouldn't sacrifice them if my character agreed to go with him instead. It was never explicitly stated what happened to him, but he is DEFINITELY fucking dead. But out of appreciation, the people of the town commissioned a statue in his likeness that stands in the town square.

I also had a changeling revealed upon losing consciousness. Unfortunately, it was my first time in combat and it wasn't much of a reveal as it was also the first time I'd played D&D since the 90s.

We were trying to hunt down a serial killer mage, as well as looking for a beloved mentor type npc who was also investigating the murders. We got jumped by someone who seemed to fit the profile of the killer- namely, being a mage who said he murdered our friend and many other. We beat him in the fight and drag him to the city's council, who slap zone of truth on him and interrogate him and we get the same information. We get the go ahead to kill him, have a funeral for our friend, and move on to down time and other plot points. Eventually, we get a psychic message from someone who threatens to kill again unless i sacrifice my character to him. We work out a different deal and start trying to figure out who it really is, etc. Long story short, i go do something stupid and end up getting the whole party arrested and thrown in prison, and the dm has us get interrogated one by one, with everyone else leaving the room. And in these one on ones he reveals to each of us that the serial killer was one of two council members we were really close to and trusted. But the real kicker is (and i was told during my one on one via grammar, but asked not to mention it until it came up) when we were all moved to one room in the dungeon, our beloved npc was also there. Within an inch of his life, but still alive. I had literally been mourning him for 2 months irl, and was absolutely LOSING it that he was back. Granted my idiocy got me killed just after that but you win some you lose some.

I'm prepping a badass set of armour for my wife's druid in her solo campaign I'm running. It'll have a once daily 10 minute effect of activating an ethereal guardian that blocks all damage for up to 50hp before it shatters. Plus a couple other bonus effects.

Dm gave us all an uncommon magical item of our choice after our first encounter, I chose the Robe of Useful items despite my party suggesting a bag of holding or mithral armour. The bard chose a magical instrument, the rogue got a hat of disguise self (and immediately killed a guard of our host town while disguised as the captain), can't remember what the wizard/Sorcerer chose. I rolled 14 out of a possible 16 additional patches (on top of the 12 fixed ones), including a horse w/ saddlebags, 2 mastiffs, 10 gemstones, a spell scroll level 1-3 (we just reached lvl 2) and at least one of everything on the list except the money, silver coffer and iron door. This gnome is so tricked out now. And the bard was immediately asking for one of the dogs lmao, funny how fast they change their tune when they see the possibilities 😂

It's not something that they did for a campaign but it is something they did for me as a player me and my two friends wanted to try DND we found a DND thing going on at a library near us there was the DM and two other players the players DM helped me and my friends create our characters every step of the way even showed me a race that was one of his favorites that works really well with my class

I can't say it's a big thing, but one time I gored a dire wolf we were fighting with my horns - I was a minotaur fighter - and asked if I could throw the body of that wolf into another wolf as my bonus action. He allowed it and I managed to roll high enough to kill the second one too. So I killed a wolf, with a wolf. Might not be that crazy, but it was just a fun moment and it was the second dnd session i had ever had so it stuck with me.

We got to destroy an entire city! Well, two... three if you count indirect consequences. And there was that small town early in the campaign, and that other small town near the end. What do mountain fortresses count as? Well, the whole mountain really, it just had a fortress in it that also got destroyed when we turned it into a crater. And there was that incident with the entire southern coast of the continent exploding, but we didn't start it, just... you know, didn't try to stop it at all. Yeah, classic hero stuff. 8 simple words 0_o It was when we first started playing the 80s 90s Marvel TTRPG n needed a test run to see if we understood the not so clear rule books. We used the 3 characters that we would go on to play in the real game so I was my mad scientist who had recent n severe brain damage when he was mutated in a lab explosion. So John Bats (cuz he was a John Doe who was batshit crazy) decided, after we had escaped a SHIELD helicarrier n then accidentally interrupted a drug deal, that th was the best time to take a piss. My brother who was the GM is good at f9nding those random moments where u didn't expect to have to roll dice n it yields some of the best results as u will see. So he asked .e to roll a psyche check to see if John is pee shy with all the shouting going on behind him. I failed so John got mad, turned around n began to charge the 3 thugs n I said "I want John to jump kick this dude in the..." bro cuts me off n then he says it "Did he remember to put his dick away?" 0_o "... no I didn't say he did so I guess he didn't... so scratch that jump kick, he gonna give the middle guy a flying pelvic thrust to the face!" Other brother: 0_o Friend: 🤣🤣🤣 GM brother: "Ok, roll it." *dice hit the table* "That's a crit, his neck snap under the pressure n his face is caved in by ur floppy old man dong as u pass over his shoulders n now his mangled face dangles behind him staring over ur shoulder at the other thugs n they run as fast as they can." When we rebooted to start the game proper I made it my mission to hit someone with John Bats' flippy dong. Didn't kill anyone with it but I did get to hit an AIM scientist with a jumping dong slap after they had captured us n we woke up naked in tanks n escaped. I also wish I could remember his words for how he described the time our mission caught the attention of the Future Foundation cuz we were told by him describing John getting tackled out of nowhere, rolling on the ground with them for a split second before they threw him into a car n knocked him the fuck out cuz out of context he was blasting a business (mob front) with fire on a busy street n looks like a super villain n SheHulk don't mess around
