I love my 5.9 3500 pre emissions. 185k miles no issues whatsoever. I added a bypass oil filtration system and extended the oil change interval to 20k miles. Technically they say oil never goes bad just gets contaminated but I can’t imagine never changing my oil.

To the people saying Buy a Chevy or buy a Ford. This literally happens to every single brand no matter what, if you own and operate a large number of these trucks you’re gonna have a bad egg once in a while that’s why warranties exist and that’s why they get used. The biggest problem right now is parts supply and everything being on back order if he had a fleet of all the Duramax trucks or all powerstroke trucks he would be in the same boat

Oil , filters and the occasional larger project, but generally most of any repairs can be done on the side of the road with basic tools. Yes I changed my water pump in a Napa parking lot in about 20 minutes

Well my 1998 24v 5.9 Cummins do the job. 600 crank horsepower and 813 torque. I'm in love with that truck. That 5 speed manual transmission a monster.

Don't idle unless you have to! I have a 2020 that I use for hotshot and I never idle overnight. I have a Webasto airtop diesel heater for cold nights that keeps my cab toasty warm even when it's -20 out in Wyoming. In the summer I have multiple little usb fans to keep me cool. I run amsoil in everything with a bypass filter, S&B intake, S&S CP3 fuel pump, Banks rear diff cover, and my drivetrain seems very happy!

Heres a trick to bypass idling if stopped in traffic. Activate the cruise control and hit the minus ( - ) button. This will set the engine idle up a few hundred RPM’s and help save the DPF filter by not idling at a lower RPM.

The exhaust system is a major pain but it's not from the manufacturers of any of these trucks it's the EPA. I hope some someone or even multiple people start lawsuits against the EPA based on the Supreme Court's recent ruling. The EPA has been overreaching and finding companies that will delete these systems for us. We know they don't work properly they do not help the environment in any way and the fuel mileage is horrible. My 1996 Powerstroke got the same exact fuel mileage as my 2016. And that was even after I had $370,000 Mi on my 96. These DEF exhaust systems are junk and constantly breaking down and costing money with no gain whatsoever. There needs to be a class action lawsuit based on the Supreme Court ruling of the EPA making up its own laws.

Yeah it pisses me off drove 25 miles for a skidsteer job deff problems shut me down waste of time and fuel to get a 400 dollar sensor fixed. No military vehicle has it on it shows you how much they trust it. Every politician and epa employee should be sued and brought to trial over a bunch of BS non sense thats absolutely killed the American workers esp the delivery services people don't realize they are having to pay as a consumer for the extra expense on these trucks. I’ve got two 2022 a 2021 and a 2020 So far no troubles but they don’t have many miles on them. I ordered a new one in April and the dealer said it’s been built and I should see it in October. All I can say is they pull great and these newer engine brakes are super safe. They are all Asian transmissions loaded 3500s. So far I’m happy.

I've had it with deisels and DPF Regen nightmares, I went with an F350 7.3 gas dually with 4:30 gears and it's awesome, plus gas is $1.30 per gallon less, best decision I ever made

@@weskarp7643 any Cummins that is a 6.7L. has emissions on it. DEF started in 2013 on cummins. 6.7s go back to 2007. Your choice on what to buy.

definitely the smart choice for an everday person that tows occasionally. They've got great torque. They're not the move for an actual business operation when you need to tow heavy though. The extra torque a diesel provides, as well as the exhaust brake to actually slow a load at grade.

I have a 2022 ram 3500 HO and I have gotten a CEL 3 times now for the same issue P2459. Regen to often. I have had it to the dealer 2 times and they are trying to tell me it's the radio throwing a crank censor code...... The truck has 3900 miles and I drive it back and forth to work about 35 miles a day on the highway. I have used about 2 tanks of def as well.

In September of 2009, I bought a used 2007.5 6.7 Megacab. It had 67000 miles on it. My trip to work was 9 miles. I could not make two round trips without having to run 25 miles on the freeway because of the DPF clogged message. When I did my "repair" at 69000 miles, I discovered the DPF was clogged with ash. No way that will burn out. I travel full time and tow a big Travel Trailer. Ever since the "repair" there have been no problems with that. 246000 miles now with 73000 towing at 25K all up, everywhere in the country with lots of slow steeps in the mountains. Good RV parks are not near the highways.

Difference from '21 trucks and '22 is so odd. I have a '21 3500 DRW with an Aisin and 3:73's and cannot say enough good things about it. Just took it in for 100k service and the only thing it has had besides maintenance has been an EGR (under warranty). I literally have to put my livelihood on the line with that truck and I would trust it go to Texas and back with a 40ft. gooseneck loaded with 18k payload.

I had a 2020 that I put out of service (traded on a 22) that at around 100k I noticed it started going into regen a lot. Sometimes while I was towing (which it NEVER did prior.) It also seemed like it was using oil. I couldn't see any on the ground or anywhere in the engine compartment or under the truck, I guess it was burning it (which may account for the increased regen). That truck had a cp3 failure and also the egr valve went bad. I took the egr apart and found the wires that power the stepper motor were cooked. Connector was melted where it plugged into the stepper motor. I feel lucky there wasn't an engine fire. I'm not happy to hear that you're experiencing DPF problems in your 22s. Something that may help you - I opened a case with customer care claiming lost revenue when my fuel pump cratered and they covered my payment while the truck was down (2 payment's worth).

I run a edge cts to help monitor the average every 800 mile passive regen cycles. I can only imagine how many Ram Cummins owners shut their truck down mid cycle. It’s too bad the truck doesn’t tell you it’s doing it which is why I got the system. Wonder if it would help with the 22 to make sure it completes the regen cycle before shutting down?

I find this odd because I run heavy equipment and almost all the new stuff you can shut the key off and lock up the cab and walk away it will not shut off if it is mid cycle it completes the cycle and shuts itself down

I can’t speak for the newest trucks, but I know my ‘17 will restart the regen on restart if I interrupt it by shutting it down mid-regen. I would be surprised if the newer trucks didn’t do that too.

It's really sad what the epa is doing to people and telling them what they can and can't do with their own vehicle , and going after shops that people are paying to make a vehicle how they want it....thats why I have no problem putting a little money into my 2004 diesel every once in a while

I finally decided to try Ram after having Ford 6.7s !!!! The Ram has had 3 DEF lights on so far and hauling a little heavier then I should’ve the Ram fell right on its face on steep hill. Lost all power and could barely make the hill !!! Fuck Ram should’ve never traded in my 20 powerstroke !! 22 Ram = junk !!! Maybe the older ones were better but shit the Fords were always running never a DEF issue !!! By the way the 6.7 powerstrokes run a very long time with routine maintenance. I have one with 300 thou and it still rips fully deleted. My brothers 6.7 has 260 thou so id say the new powerstrokes are very reliable

Try the def injector they corrode and drip in the exhaust instead of spraying. The def needs to spray on the filter to keep it clear of particulates.

DEF doesn't clean the DPF. DEF is used to reduce NOX emissions. The truck injects diesel into the hot exhaust to clean the DPF.

Get a 2012 if you can. No Def, and no regen. DPF is the only thing to worry about, and I haven't had to worry about it yet. It is a Mega cab, and there is so much room for us. Lil brother is 6'1 260, I am 5'10 230, and lil sister is 5'11. We fit with plenty of room, no elbow jabbing.

@@jchirschfeld1101 my 99 got 20 22 on highway.. my 2012 can't get over 17 on highway. And I've been highway driving same distance to work since. About 60 miles one way and same driving habits.. the problem i see is that with ram 6.7 it doesn't regen when dpf gets close 50 or even 40 percent clogged the dealer told me that dodge sets the parameters to regen about 200 or 220 miles regardless if you always drive in highway.. unlike gm n Ford they will regen when it seems back kpressure reaches the limit on sensors.. which I think is you on highway for a 600 mile trip running highway speeds it should be running hot enough not to clog unlike city stop and go... but yeah 6.7 has more power but that 5.9 will pull so it takes me longer to get up to speed but driving a truck before cdls came out most truckers don't rely care about zero to 60 with 70k it takes a mile so it takes a mile... lol we good with it

I got a 21’ 2500 6.4 Hemi and I absolutely love it,the ZF 8spd is super smooth for a big truck,If you order it I recommend getting it with the 4.10 rear if you plan on towing with it,I’m glad I got mine with the 4.10’s because it gives you max tow

Hey Paul two questions. 1 Ever thought about 2 or 1 micron rated oil bypass filtration Systems. They may help prevent clogging of those oil passages since these newer engines are so dam sooty. Because of the exhaust treatment. At least then you might only be replacing a plugged dpf. Instead of a engine damaged by to much soot. 2 are you doing oil analysis? YOU NEED TO! The soot is destroying the best built engine if all time.

Throughout the years, I ran Ram/Dodge trucks and they were at best a mixed bag. Lots of engine issues, from low oil pressure and knocks to head gasket failure at 47,000 miles to, well you name it. Not sure if you can get reliability in any mass produced engine among the big 3.

2021 3500 DRW having DPF issues at 53k miles. Had an issue of it almost going into limp mode then finally going into regen. Now every 50-75 miles the DPF goes up to around 50% then goes into regen. Unfortunately, the obvious mod is coming soon but I wanted to keep it factory as this will be our backup hotshot truck. Enjoy your videos keep them coming.

The newer ones will go into high idle on their own when needed. At least, my 2020 did.

@@1001011100101001 true they will, but you can’t always rely on a computer to do the dirty work. the best practice I have found is to high idle with idling for a long period of time, it is what I do in my kenworth during the winter months and haven’t had a single issue. And high idling also keeps a good oil pressure.

You are absolutely right that the DEF system is causing problems on all the trucks and it is absolute junk ! There needs to be class action lawsuits so we could start deleting this garbage again. The Supreme Court ruling against the EPA making up its own laws and overreaching needs to be addressed with a class action lawsuit across America for their overreach and bogus laws on this DEF system that's costing all of us headaches and money.

I have a 2009 Dodge Ram 2500. I have gone thru 2 turbo’s, 2 fuel pumps, upgraded my transmission. But my truck is not a “ Pavement Princess”! I work it hard and work it tough!! Paul, why not just put a New 12 Valve ( They still make them brand new ) in the truck that needs an engine with an trans adapter plate and Power Driven Diesel goodies to boost the engine up to 6.7 HP & Torque levels? No more DEF and super simple.

Our company had 4 defective gearboxes on the same make/model. My truck's transmission dies right after I parked it at the company lot! Another one lasted only 143 miles from the factory floor and died in downtown Chicago...

Roughly how many hours do the trucks sit idling while the drivers catch some shut eye. Do you think this idle time is contributing to the dpf problems? My 13’ Cummins has a high idle setting via cruise control switch, do your drivers use this feature to keep the motor running above idle? Just some thoughts?

Buying brand new diesel engines doesn't make as much sense anymore. Emissions systems are killing the longevity of them in a bad way. This is why I purchased a 5th gen with a 6.4 instead. 114k trouble free miles so far.

I haven’t had any issues…..there isn’t a single change between the 21 and 22. Cummins builds these engines, not Ram. I haven’t read anything build wise where they made any changes to the Cummins from 2021 to 2022. It’s like anything else, there is a bad build from time to time. Everyone I know loves the 2022.

Just have to pay attention to the regens….limit idling…..and work the engine steady and she will be fine. If you get a lemon…..you get a lemon….that happens. Go on the other forums for Chevy/gmc and Ford if you want to see issues. Those poor fellas having a time.

I’m glad that I don’t “need” a diesel truck. I’m perfectly happy with my 2500 Power Wagon. Why? Because I barely tow but I actually off-road. I’ve noticed that a majority of truck owners trucks and don’t use them for their intended purposes. But who cares. In my opinion a diesel seems like more a pain in the ass to own if unless you actually need one.

I have a 2022 and have noticed DPF filter would not fully clean out, so I changed the air filter thinking It was running rich creating soot faster than it can burn off. Filter was only two weeks old and still looked clean but immediately after changing, it finished regen and DPF was completely clean then about two weeks go bye and I noticed DPF filter gauge was going up again so I changed the filter again. So now I change the air filter at oil change and one time in between and haven’t had a problem since.

I had one issue with my 22 ram and it was the knock sensor around 7k mileage caused by running the truck at idle, so far No issue now I'm at 47k mileage and grab a room now cause to be honest it cost the same fuel vs comfort. Bit love your video and imput bro. Also I find it easy to contact the manufacturer for the part shortage, cause ram sales is great parts and service are trash.

Have a 20 3500 HO that had CP4 failure around 56k. Around 120k started getting CEL code P2459. Dealer unsure, thinking it may be injectors. The next time the too frequent regen threw the CEL, I cleaned the sensors in the air cleaner, and cleaned the sensor over by the EGR. It was very sooted up. Then used an Archoil fuel system cleaner and immediately after that tank of fuel regens went from 200 miles to every 5-700. Using Archoil 6500 Diesel treatment for now 3 months and so far no excessive regens. Just my experience.

Paul, my 22 3500 Limited 68rfe has had several issues, but nothing with the dpf yet, but with winter in MN coming, who knows. My 21 had issues with the dpf. So far my issues have been the transmission just not acting like it should (hard to explain). Its like it doesn't want to shift from 2nd to 3rd, but then does, but struggles and gets loud. The touchscreen has been a total joke and it sounds like they're going to replace the screen this coming week. I've had tons of burning brake odors coming from the rear of the truck, its lost coolant somehow to the point where the light kept coming on and the dealer could not find a leak and ive had a metallic clicking noise coming from the steering column.

It's not just the 2022's that have DPF problems I have a 2020 I bought new and the DPF has gave me problems since day One! I have 34000K on it and pull a TT with it and it's been in the Shop 13 weeks since I bought it and it's in the shop now. The DPF either plugs up or it runs in REGEN all the time, I just got back from a 1600 mile trip with it and the TT and it ran 1300 miles of that in Regen and used 13 Gallons of DEF Yeah 13 gallons. Thank God I don't have to try and make a living with it like you guys. Also it doesn't Idle much at all>>just a piece of S--T!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Looks like you have the HO with asin transmission, great set up. If your gona idle try setting truck on hi idle with the cruise control. You have options of 1000 rpm and 1500 rpm

Everyone has different experiences with trucks. I had a 2018 ram 3500, it had the 68rfe. Was always worried about when the crappy 68 was going to go out due to running 35s and towing. On the other hand I'm not a fan of the aisin either, towing its ok. With no trailer plain and simple it sucks. Long story short, I went out and got a real truck IMO. Got a brand new at the time 2020 GMC 3500HD Denali Dually. Couldn't be happier, currently has 40k with zero issues. The 2020 l5p with the 10 speed is amazing loaded or unloaded. Not to mention it's leveled on 35 inch toyo mts on factory wheels, still tows amazing. Paul you need to try a new L5P 3500HD, I don't hotshot for a living but I do my fair share of towing and towing heavy being on a ranch. It's very common to have 20k to 30k behind the truck and I couldn't be happier. Either way hope the 22 Ram issues get solved.

Have a 22 drw 68rfe only issue is bucking a lil going up hill @60k. Had cel pop 3 or 4 times but mechanic said no issue just run hard the next day. It was sensor carbon build up between 19k and 42k now have not seen in last 20k. Have another built waiting to deliver. H.O. with 4.10. Have idled since April last 3 weeks it's been cool enough to just chill. Just work it the next day.

Idle time kill's the DPF system on any modern diesel If you don't want problems cut out idle time I carry a generator and a 5,000 BTU air conditioner for summer time and a small room heater for winter 0 idle time = 0 down time due to clogged DPF/SCR system It's also cheaper to run the generator than idling the truck all day and night

I have a similar BigTex 22GN HD 40ft, 2015. In good condition, for sale. Deck is weathered but solid. Located currently in western Montana. Title in hand. New brakes and bearing lube (spring 2023). Tires have some life left. $12,500, OBO.

Our 22 is aok...22,000 great mileage 8k fuel filter, 4k oil but I miss the solid lifters on starts and shut downs. When Cummins stopped doing their own thing? If you're not doing that egr cooler/valve at 25k your water o-rings will bake in. Recalls for heater grid relay? Crank up with a laser temp and fire extinguisher for 600hrs gives you 20k miles then your home free. Gorilla tape on the dip gives you ability to check your trany. All these recalls are easy fixes in manufacturing so why are they slowing our productivity with their ineptness. Truck production, food processing all have one thing in common...FIRE! If you can't get one burn it down!

Went with a 21 for the reason of brining back the CP3. SO with 68rfe but nothing but good things. 5w40 cummins endorsed valvoline and cat filter mod recently this last service. Thats my story.

We have a fleet of 40 of these trucks ranging from 2011-2020, our newest 2020 blew the motor at 20,000km and that was last august 2021, we just got the new motor this week. What a shit show that’s been. Out of our 10 2019-2020 trucks 3 have had full fuel systems and the motor. Other than that they have a shit load of idle hours and drive hours and not one has had an issue with the exhaust just the older ones with high engine hours

I know my 22 owners manual says the exhaust break can be turned on to help heat up the motor, while idle. Maybe there's something to your drivers report and turning off EB while idle.

2022 trucks are missing a dpf sensor due to covid supply issues. Put your vin in the ram recall website and see if you truck is missing it.

Question:Once or twice I’ve had a back up into an incline and my transmission has gotten pretty hot a little over 200 would you recommend to switch out that fluid or would you wait for the regular schedule?

200 degrees is normal. If you get it over 230 degrees I would start looking at changing the fluid.

If I hotshotted I’d have a welder and generator and possibly even a bike/dirt bike on my rig. Shut truck down run the genny for heat and light. Keep cab warm can even plug in block heater for cold starts

If you're idling those trucks for heat in the winter just get yourself an air diesel heater installed and you won't have to do that plugging up all of your EGR cooler and your exhaust.... modern EGR systems are not conducive to idling they need to be working all the time if you want them to stay clean

As long as you're not running the 68rfe transmission then the asin the only way to go. If you're going to be idling anytime you want to turn the exhaust breakup off and put the cruise control up to 1,000 RPM

I haul a 3500 lb Lance camper. This is the reason I got a 2022 Ram 2500 with 6.4 Hemi. You immediately gain 1 k in payload. I can accept less mileage wth the gas engine.

When I had a ram 1500 2015 with 3.0L diesel I cannot tell you how many issues I had with the DEF, Regen. The issue was how the software runs a regen and only does it during warmer temps. Here in Michigan it gets cold and my regens would not work in the winter. Ram has never spent the $$ on the DEF, DPF system. This comment is more about Ram's inability to fix the DEF system on all diesels.

These new diesels, (cummins, dura-max, powerstroke,) are excellent motors. BUT! the emissions they put on these wonderful engines is so sad, cause these diesel engines are a modern marvel! I have an ‘07 cummins with ZERO emissions and that 16 year old truck and engine is wonderful! I will NEVER sell this truck. I’ve had so many notes on my truck of people wanting to know if I would sell my truck. I have a 2007 mega-cab with a 4” Bilstien lift and 22” wheels with a shell over the bed. It’s name is Samson! The new trucks look sweet but I would NOT own one, and trust me I can afford a new truck, but I won’t. Sorry about your truck. It looks beautiful. I love the mega-cab duallys.

You dont see any of this on military vehicles. That shows how much they trust it. All our firetrucks have problems with emissions. I love my 22 ram but it will be deleted if I keep it.

Have you dealt with the abs problems? My abs pump has been down since I bought the truck in August. Luckily I don't need inspections bc it would fail. HOW IS THERE NOT A RECALL? It's a known problem that is saftey related. Everything I've heard is urea back ordered with no ETA. How can they do that? I have a 18 3500 ho. If I needed inspections and was relying on the truck for my living I'd be Fkd. It's a great truck I love it and I'm a Chevy guy. How can ram do this to us? The previous owner voided the warranty at 7k miles because of his choice in "bolt on/ plug in modifications"😂 this is safety equipment literally the difference in like and death for the average driver. Leaving countless trucks parked with no fix in sight. I've read you can take a 08 1500 abs pump and install.

I don't hotshot or tow a 20k camper around the country. I do pull a gooseneck a bunch and pull over 10k weekly. My 2022 is a gas truck. These emissions that are on these diesel trucks is ass. All I ever see is problems with these new diesels.

there's a fuel additive that will help you out a lot. it's called Fuel Ox. give it a try, I guarantee it will work I use it all the time.

Got a GMC c7500 3126 cat with 360k on the clock and hasn't skipped a beat since I bought it at 150k ish so maybe look for a medium duty truck instead of consumer towing vehicles

2022 3500 DRW with only 6700 on the ODO and at dealer for a new turbo…. Exhaust brake works for crap now and throwing codes and service exhaust ménages. worst part is Turbo is on Backorder! Truck hasn’t been babied and half the miles are towing our 17k lbs 5er and I don’t drive slow even in the hills so it gets worked and use Exhaust brake for all major hills which lately has felt very soft. I kinda wished I stayed with the Ford…
