In this series we're going Beyond Hot Wheels and taking a look at premium and super premium 1/64 scale diecast cars from other brands. Mini gt is just the perfect balance of detail and price point surprisingly some of the premium hot wheel can hold their own. Yes I hear as you just mentioned balance. It’s true. Tarmac your stepping up a grade but the down side (slight) they aren’t always great rollers but than again their meant to be appreciated not played with, so it’s forgiving. (For me anyway). MiniGT absolutely demolishes HW wholesale in terms of detail and premium feel, that you'd feel like being robbed buying HW RLCs aside of "exclusivity" feel. Maybe with the recent HW Elite64 series, HW might stand a chance... If they can compete with MiniGT's pricing.

Just stumbled upon your channel but man what a great overview of this brand and you make it very hard not to just go out and buy every single one lol I will say like you stated for what Hotwheels does it’s still very impressive for a 1$ model. But for another 11$ you get sooo much more. Just got my first MiniGT for Christmas (black digital camo lambo) and I’m hooked. Great video man!

Mini gt are the main reason why I switched to a premium collector no longer buy hot wheels, matchbox etc. mini gt, tarmac, inno64 etc. all I collect and couldn’t recommend them more

@@user-qu9vu9bl3f the thing with hotwheels is that its the most durable toy/model car in the world. Mini gt is a model car that can be a toy car. Too many marketing schemes with hotwheels. I would recommend stay away from rlc hotwheels. Buy mini gt, auto world....Can't beat hotwheels mainlines tho for the price.

the unique detailing from Mini GT is how they label their variations, instead naming them simple color names like only "red", "blue", "silver" they're using what manufacturers call that color like "GT Silver Metallic", "Berlina Black", "Verde Mantis"

It's hard to complain about Mini GT and the new stuff they have coming out just keeps getting better. You can also see their influence on other brands like Tarmac Works Global64 and some of the changes Inno64 is making. 2021 saw some amazing stuff but it's clear 2022 is going to blow it away.

Thank you very much for your fine videos . I can see these genuinely helping people make informed choices in a field full of temptation . I agree 100% with all your observations . I've loved Hot Wheels since my older sister bought me the 'sweet 16' in '68 . But MiniGT 'raise the game' in a beautifully balanced way . You want more detail ? Go ahead , there's plenty to choose from , but be prepared to pay appropriately more . As you say , TSM MiniGT have hit a sweet spot with their thoughtful balance of detail , finish , sheer quality and of course , the price . You mentioned them having an almost jewel quality . Absolutely . By the way , if some like these delightful models but would prefer to see brake discs and calipers , why not buy some and put them on ? My friends at Kuruma sell the range of 1/64 detail parts by BNDS . Such as the exquisitely made brakes in etched-steel and the tow-rings found on race-cars . Great value , as here in UK , they're £6 for 8 brakes , or two cars worth ! Should be a cinch to modify , too , as the models are screwed together . What a difference they make .

Mini GT are 3D printed master's then cast in to diecast! I have one of the pink resin NSX test masters, one my favorites some vehicles are taken from Games and converts to an STL to print and some are scanned into cad software! Maybe you have seen the mini GT processes online it was released footage last year? There's alot work that goes into one the Mini Gt model's i highly respect this brand now being a 3D resin print designer myself and after seeing how they do it i do some of my own and its great to be able to use the 1.1 scale to scale it to any scale in my slicer or CAD but i add alot extras in my own like the Break disks, antennas spoilers, thousands of different wheels on file and tyre brands to exhausts! Its definitely a recommended hobby to start when collecting cars or building model's!

I always seem to want models that no one makes or a good version anyway for awhile it was an s14 until Tarmac came out with theirs. Then a Honda ridgeline. Then a 70 caprice or impala that's 4 door. Then a 69 caprice or impala also 4 door. Nope. I don't think they've made a 56 Ford Crown vic either. And a small handful of others.I don't really like liveries unless it's drift, and even then, I'm picky. Although in my defense, I do like basic colors over any livery design. And these companies like to throw everything in crazy colors, metallics, etc. I don't like greens or yellows at all. And certain vehicles only look good in certain colors. Metallics, red, and silvers are very vehicle specific. Whites and blacks look good in pretty much everything. Edit: I forgot s14 zenki, which is a pre 96 with the round lights. Plus, usually all the silvias they make are all RHD, and they don't really make 240sx, which would be the U.S. versions in LHD

Mini GT is the legitimate successor of Kyosho in 1/64. Best bang for the buck out there (in the premium range). I think in the premium range Tarmac Works, HobbyJapan and TLV are inconsistent with QC, getting too expensive for what they are worth. Inno64 is worth the premium as they never disappoint (e.g. Land Cruiser FJ60). Matchbox still the best mainlines in the $1 range.

​​@@Raptor243MiniGT isn't really all extremely scale accurate, but "good enough" scale accurate, think of it like HW fooling your eyes into thinking their cars look correct, that's the same case here, but done much better. I've noticed it quickly back when I got my first MiniGT, the black Aventador LBWK widebody, then compared it to my second, the white Civic Type R FK8, and you can see that the Aventador looks a bit gnome-ish in comparison. Height is scale looking between the two, but the Aventador compared to the Civic just looks "off" in size

I think Mini GT strikes the perfect balance between quality and price. Not much more expensive than a Premium Hot Wheels casting and they offer amazing details, metal bases and wheels that roll (maybe not as smooth as Hot Wheels, but still good). And i like to see them expand to many new models and not just releasing multiple versions of a single model in a short period of time (like they did with the Nissan R35 for expample). Anyway, this brand has become one of my favorite diecast brands and i think it has a great future in the 1/64 segment, which is already crowded as it is. Thanks for making this vid.

I'm not sure, Mijo certainly wants to imply that's the case and some of their releases do have limited numbers on them but it's unclear how many of the international releases are made for comparison. Mijo does do the "chase" thing so those are more rare but in my opinion they're not really chases for anyone other than the hobby dealers that mark them up. I've never heard of anyone getting a Mijo chase instead of a regular release without paying extra for it.

I have recently slowly have started to switch over to brands such as auto world and mini gt from hot wheels because I stated get bored of doing so many wheel swaps lol. Don't get me wrong there are some hot wheels that the other brands don't have but those are the only expectations.

hello matte. Thx for the video and the review. I would like to coment about one thing, that is the model cars u picked to compare. I mean, relative to HW mainline, we get what we pay and they do alot indeed (no complain), but yet you have picked 2 castings where they have mirronrs and even the headlights are acrylic. those two are not very representative of mainlines in general, where 99% of mainlines are no mirrors and with no prints on the front and back lights. Another thing is that HW mainlines in europe cost 2 to 2.5€ so they are double or more then double that cost in USA. I think the true comparioson to mini gt should be against premium from HW. Its there i think sometimes HW does not do such a good job. Again u have picked one of the most complete castings they do, with mirrors and acrylic headlights and lot of printings. In Europe a premiun HW cost about 10€ each and a mini GT 13/15 so for the diference we get alot more with mini GT. more acurate body, more detailed rubber mirrors, seperate piece to spoiler and lights. more realistic and diverse wheels. Wheels with same size, etc etc etc. So its a bit of a shame HW is letting go the market, at least on this side of the map. I had alot of HW but a big chunk is going away. whell just wanted to share my opinion. GJ on tehe videos. cheers

This is just my categorization but I put Inno64, Tarmac Works Hobby64 / Road64 / Hobby64+, Ignition Model, Hobby Japan, Tomica Limited Vintage, LCD Model and KengFai into super premium. There are also a ton of lesser known chinese popup brands that make really premium models but they tend to not have licensing so they come and go quickly. Brands like Mini GT, Para64, Greenlight, M2, Auto World, Era Car , Tiny HT, JKM are what I consider premium with a focus on reasonably accurate models. Hot Wheels Premium, Matchbox Collectors series, Majorette and Siku are also premium but from a toy perspective so they tend to lean more on charm and character than pure accuracy.

For the money The detail you get with the casting is fantastic, I have several Mini GTs and I like the casting They do a lot of the JDM and exotic cars with some of them I do like Not as much as the JDM style to see do American style Muscle cars Mini GT are for display not to be put on the track in my opinion. TSM makes fantastic models...I am quite a fan of their 1/43 scale models...no wonder the 1/64 versions are quite cool models compared with most of the competitors.. My honest issue with Mini GT is that they don't make all models at 1/43 scale as well :( and I say that because there are a lot of Mini GT models that I want to see as TSM 1/43 models as well...

The advantage these have over hot wheels is that 1 they look just as good if not better in most cases, 2 you cant get alot of the decos in hot wheels and some of the Mini GTs look like pieces of art....and 3 is availability and price....these are actually more affordable than alot of premium hot wheels that scalpers hoard and then resell on ebay for 2 ,3 and even 4 times the value.. ❤

Lack of brake discs are fine for me, as MiniGT occupies a comfortable pricing level where most other brands just doesn't fit well. It's a good trade-off, especially for the kind and amount of models they churn out every month. Puts it in a place where it's an affordable awesome model brand where others just don't quite get it.

I stopped collecting Hot Wheels once I discovered MINI GT, they're more expensive in comparison, but in my country there's never Hot Wheels on the shelves due to scalpers, and resale prices go as high as $5 USD, so if I'm going to be spending money, it better be worth it. After MINI GT I also started collection Tarmac Works (both Hobby64 and Global64), INNO64, TimeMicro and some other brands. They are pricey, but the quality is there (most of the times).

Im wondering about collecting some Mini GT models. I have 50 premium hot wheels and about 30 avaible slots on my shell to fill it by car models. What would you recommend? Does Mini GT is worth their price? Important thing to me is rolling wheels. I heard that Inno 64 and Tarmac Works have sometimes problems with rolling tires.

Worth the price is something only you can answer, they definitely are for me but everybody's sense of value is going to be different. Mini GT does roll pretty well as does Tarmac Works Global64 line. Inno64 and Tarmac Works Hobby64 roll sometimes but most of the time do not.

I don’t mind if it doesn’t say the name of the car on the bottom, but the number would be interesting although that won’t be possible. Mini GT has made announcements on cars before but lost the license so they actually ended up using a previously taken number for a new model.

Once the model is issued though it shouldn’t be reused so seems like something they could do. I’d just be happy if they would consistently put the info there. It’s not a major issue right now but through time it will be hard to know variations if you separate the car from the box like I do. I have this issue with Johnny Lighting too where I have some cars that I simply don’t know what they are.

Yeah over $10 for a HW premium is steep and hard to accept. We definitely have it good as far as Hot Wheels pricing goes in the US.

Could someone do me a solid and help me identify the car at 2:23, second row, third from the left? I believe it's the Mini GT Corvette C8 Stingray in Accelerate Yellow, but on some monitors it looks like a light green color. My old eyes and I appreciate any help given.

Yeah I believe that is called Accelerate Yellow. It does have a slight green tint to it.

Mini GT is a great brand when you compare mainline Hot Wheels they don't stand up too bad when you think they only cost $1 or in my case £1.50 good for the price point what irritate me and it's not a knock to Hot Wheels is there premium cost over here in the UK cost 7 to 8 pounds all they are is slightly better detailed mainlines so it makes sense to spend a few extra pounds and get a mini GT or a Tarmac works and get the extra exact detail 👍👍👍

Yeah the prices for Hot Wheels Premium in the UK, EU and Aus all seem really off putting. Doubly worse even for things like the Matchbox Collectors Series. I just watched a Diecast Dude video where he was looking at the Collector Series and they were 10 euros which isn't even close to worth it. How much does Mini GT typically run you in the UK?

It depends there's not a lot of dealers here that sell it online the 1 main UK dealer about 12 pounds is an average price the more popular pieces or newer pieces £15 to £20 tarmac works is more expensive again 👍👍

I have a number of their race cars only, including all four corvette c8s, ford gt (4 car package) and the Accura NSX Gte evo. great cars. Sparky better and more expensive and tarmac works more expensive and best of the bunch..

There are definitely brands that have more detail but only at a higher price point. Inno64 in particular has been putting out a ton of fantastic releases but they are $20 and up and I consider them a different category. For the $10-$20 range nobody beats Mini GT.

My ONLY complaint or criticism of mini gt is....NO OPENING OF ANYTHING. Doors,trunk,hood.....nothing opens.

I personally consider that a good thing. While I definitely appreciate opening parts at times there's no avoiding the fact that in 1/64 scale an opening part will almost always compromise the model due to the panel gaps. I think Mini GT made the right choice in avoiding them for now since it would also likely require a higher price point in order to maintain the same quality. That said, both Tarmac Works and Inno64 are starting to bring out opening parts models and it actually wouldn't surprise me to see Mini GT eventually do the same but at a higher price point. I do have to admit I am really looking forward to the Tarmac Works Hobby64+ Lancia with opening features.

So what's the best brand in your opinion? When I made this video I thought they had stopped labeling completely but then while reviewing the video I realized that when I turned over the C8r it was labeled on the bottom too. So they're just really inconsistent in doing it.
