Gabe, in 2005 I took my then wife and oldest daughter, who is 25 now, to Santorini. We took a boat from Oia to the newly forming volcano. It was sooo hot and while traversing the new volcanic cone, you have steam vents when the air is 100+F. But I think the craziest part of the trip, was the ride home. That caldera gets rough in the afternoon - insanely rough! 😂

May I say that this Greek series with Sterling has been wonderful. Lovely to have a good friend to travel with. A lot of places close down in Greece in October. Just make sure you talk to your travel agent, so they can tell you which 'touristy' areas remain open (ferries, lodging, restaurants, etc.) in October.

I ve been there twice, and im planning a hat trick for the feature. Santorini is heaven on earth and one of the most beautiful places in the world. Ierapetra on the southern coast of Crete is interesting because nobody has been able to locate any of the ruins or artifacts from ancient Ierapetra. During the occupation by the Turks, much digging and exploration was done to locate ancient Ierapetra with no success. I've wondered if the tsunami created by the eruption of Thera was large enough to cause water to flow through the valley north of Ierapetra across the entire width of Crete. Did ancient Ierapetra get wiped out by a massive flow of water from the north caused by Thera? Might the ruins of ancient Ierapetra be found offshore?

I moved to the beach side 15 years ago and took walks on the beach every morning picking up shells and washed up trinkets but after few years there are no more shells. There were a lot of shells then and more than enough for crafting decorations for a whole house in just a week of collection. Now even the beaches have collapsed over sea rising.

Did you show the rate for your accommodation? Everything on Santorini is expensive. Place looked really nice, I'm guessing $185 per night. Deal with Sterling is that. Pure 100% Silver oxidizes so it looks dull and greyish and not shiny like Sterling Silver like you see in jewelery shops. To make Sterling Silver which is known and stamped as 92.5 Sterling Silver. 92.5% refers to the fact that it's 92.5% Silver and the remaining 7.5% mixed in is Copper. Copper gives you hardness and shiny look. Also Silver jewlery is often Rodium plated to give mirror shine. Some Silver jewlery may contain Nickel but Nickel can irritate some skin so generally you don't want Nickel only Copper in your Silver jewlery. Copper is hypoallergenic Nickel is not. Silver isn't like gold, its fairly inexpensive. The expensive part is the effort gone into making it jewlery. Silver price is like around $1.05 per gram roughly speaking. That is for 100% Silver not 92.5. Compared to 24kt Gold or 999 Gold which is around $100 per gram 999 refers to the purity like 92.5 for Sterling Silver. Gold is expensive because it has intrinsic value. You've eaten sweets in India with Silver and Gold foil. That's actual Silver and Golden pounded down to such a level that it can be consumed. I know you won't belive this but Silver and Gold is actually consumed and is good for the body. Google it. That why Indians actually consume it. Hope that helps.
