Back in the 80s, 90s, all the yuppies used to carry these expensive leather Filofax, and Day Planner organizers. They were 4 inches thick, and literally carried their entire life in them. Everything from phone numbers, business cards, lunch receipts, photos, and their Montblanc ballpoint. These Traveler's Notebooks must be the evolution of those. And yes, I carried one of those back in the day.

Thanks for stopping by. It certainly is interesting how in the digital world we live in there is a call to return to analog roots with these notebook systems. I remember the Filofax! My first boss couldn't stand the idea of a digital calendar and so carried his Filofax everywhere and for everything in his scuffed up briefcase. Different times.

I recently picked up a burgundy leather Dayrunner for $4 at a thrift shop. There is a thriving community for them, and new manufacturers have filled in that niche. Despite my love for everything analog, I struggle to switch to my Dayrunner when the calendar on my phone is so convenient. The Travelers system has always appealed to me but I have avoided that rabbit hole so far.

I bought my missus a (pocket) Filofax last Christmas, she was a little confused I think, as she’d never hinted or anything, yet she’s always writing notes down on random bits of paper, also carries a wee Callander in her bag. Anyway, she started using a little, then more and more now it’s her go to for planning and notes. All in one place. Leaving he phone for Facebook…

I discovered these a few years ago. I am amazed at the many ways it can be customized to suit your needs. The versatility is amazing! Also, you do not have to spend an enormous amount of money to make this system work.

Hi Yvonne! Completely agree on both points. You can 'bling' it out as much or as little as you want and also make the system whatever you need it to be. Thanks for stopping by and have a lovely day!

I did alot of research on TN's in 2018. Ended up going with a Galen Leather standard TN and passport size because I liked the elastic coming from the spine rather than the back, they were cheaper than the original at the time and-- colors. Travelers Company didn't have the camel or blue at the time. I use the Galen passport as my wallet with inserts (love), and the standard as my planner and collections. The system is the gem of of what TC came up with along with of course the paper. I strayed this year and made my own planner, in an old A5 binder. I worked out what I didn't like and am now going back into my TN and have figured out what will work for me for "all" my needs. There are wide TN's out there (5") that would solve the sticking out bits and you could continue with the inserts you like. I looked at some trifolds which are interesting but they would add weight. I seem to need an A5 for my journaling though as I can't make the narrower page work. I've enjoyed your videos.

Frank, your series of videos about the Travellers Noebook had inspired me to get a TN system for myself. For the past 20 years or so, I have been using the Franklin - Covey Planner system. It is something I am used to have have been using it religiously throughout my undegrad days at University, grd school days and thereafter. Using the TN will take some getting used to, but, I am looking forward to the journey!!! :):):)

I picked a few up on Amazon that have a 1" double binding on the spine, for the A5, standard, and pocket. They have pockets on the inside as well. So for instance...the A5 TN is holding right now an A5 full notebook with 250 pages, and three A5 inserts. As soon as I realized it could possibly fit two more inserts into this same set up...I turned around and ordered another of each size from September Leather on Amazon. Loved the vid. Thanks.

Such a good comprehensive video! I think the main reason I enjoy their Traveler's Notebooks is because it's the main stationery item that I've used consistently for years. There's just something about them, and their limited edition approach makes it novel too. Thanks for sharing!

Hi! I’m really enjoying your TN playlist. Your videos are lovely and helpful. If I may ask a question, how difficult is it to write over the hump of that knot coming through the back cover? Am I missing some trick? Thanks in advance for your advice. 🙂

Hi BlueHorseStitchers, Thank you for the kind feedback and apologies for the delay in responding to this. It's not difficult at all. Is it noticeable - yes. However, I've got the file folder against the back cover, which makes the bump disappear effectively. I hope that helps. Warm wishes and take care!

Amazing really what can become a ' thing' when advertised. I have kept a journal for as long as I remember, I would write etc in an ' ordinary' notebook. After watching lots of videos on You Tube I decided I like the travellers note book to journal in. Mine isn't a designer name but it does have a leather cover which has become warm and tactile! I understand others like to plan and use them as diaries, which also seems to be a thing. On the other hand I'm amused at the absurdity of it, but I guess manufacturers of these things are laughing too!.

@@LisePlansandJournals there is no absurdity, it’s just a matter of personal preference how can u become organized and if one feel happy using the traveller’s company stuff, then one should go for it. Personally I don’t use it but a couple of my friends are hardcore users

Here's an alternative point of view. I bought my first Midori in 1992 when I was in Tokyo on business. There wasn't much out there in the west that wasn't Filofax, Day Runner or Collins, and I liked that I could put whatever I wanted in there without needing to buy a punch or other accessories....and the Midori was relatively cheap at AUD7.80-ish. I used this for about 8 years before I bought a second duty free whilst travelling....and I paid more than double. Over the years, after I found a stationers in Australia that sold them I've bought a couple more but the price now is absurd. Added to that, the design has petrified in it's own past. It hasn't improved one iota, which is stupid since it's so obvious it needed a fairly radical 'tweak'. Now the price is just criminal. For a $5 piece is leather and 10 cents of elastic the public is being fleeced for upwards of AUD110. So, I'm sorry, I don't have your romantic attachment to the ideal of the Midori/Travellers Company Notebook. It had it's day, and now it needs to either improve or step aside for the hundreds of companies out there who are producing superior designs more suited to life in the 21st century, based around the original Midori design. I'm happy that you're happy with yours, but I'm pretty sure you could be happier, and would find even more uses for a new improved Travellers Notebook. Cheers

Hello and thanks for stopping by. Yes it is getting pricey although I think where I'm located the prices have stayed the same for years. With inflation though... We'll see. What can I say - I'm a romantic and yes I agree with you I'm a romantic about the TN ☺️. Some day down the road I'll probably check out other brands like the Galen Leather but for now I'm happy. Warm wishes and have a great day.

Re: more than two inserts bulging out of a TN, a fellow YTer (Diana.PenToPaper) developed a fix for that and it looks like it works well and keeps all inserts inside the leather. Not here to promote her channel but since you mentioned it as one of your dislikes, I thought you would enjoy seeing a "fix" for that issue: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kICcgWZ5jNVroJY Hope that works for you. :)

Hi, thanks for stopping by and sharing that hack! I gave it a try with my inserts, and because I like the cotton zipper insert from Traveler's company so much I still have 'bulging'. The cotton zipper bulges out the most but the other inserts bulge out a bit more evenly. Aesthetically I can see how this hack works so much better, especially without the cotton zipper insert. I wish the Traveler's Notebook had extra leather in the cover and an extra elastic in the spine. That would definitely take care of the 'bulge'. Thanks again :)

@@StationeryAt4 Most welcome. I purchased a TN in passport size that I hope to use as a wallet and items bulging out of the leather will annoy me if that happens. I'm wondering if the TN was designed a tiny bit wider to accommodate the extra notebooks peeking out. I do agree with you - brilliant idea on Midori/Travelers Co. part. Happy Traveling!!
