Curious about the differences in strikes between Karate, Boxing, and Systema?
In Systema, strikes are executed without tensing the body. Watch how Vladimir explains it in the video.

I had the opportunity a few years ago to visit his school. What surprised me the most was that despite being punch more and harder than any martial arts class I'd taken before, I left feeling energized rather than sore. It was just so unexpected.

Looks fake. But is not. Training and loving systema for years now and it saved me in more than one occasion ❤ greetings from germany!

You can hear the power in the dull thwack of the hit. When you get hit by one of those it is shockingly powerful.

Yes agree, when I first started systema I didn't get the relaxation part but once I did man my strike power Increased and I was able to btr absorb hits. Best training I have taken.

I've got impression, that while main purpose of Karate/Boxing strikes - is damage, in Systema - stike is a tool to control competitor's body and attention.

You can use it for both, and even to heal certain injuries. But it takes a lot of practice to both recognize the needed one and to properly apply it.

Sir, I have been watching you and Mr. Ryabko for years, and have been practicing various martial arts for decades. Being myself an engineer, the more I see both of you practice, the more I feel systema is unique in the field of martial arts, in the sense that I feel more and more that engineers, and perhaps even researchers participated to the creation of systema. Indeed, compared to many other masters from various martial arts, your understanding of psychology and biomechanics is really impressive. Am I correct ? Initially, was systema the creation of a main person (e.g. like Imi Lichtenfeld for Krav Maga, or Mas Oyama for Kyokushinkai), or of a team that was gathered to invent the most efficient way to fight ? Best regards.

You would be correct. The system that dates back to the 10th century was brought into the modern age from brilliant Soviet minds that used science and a deep understanding of physics. Like kung-fu there are diffrent lineages.

what are peoples thoughts on Giuseppe Filotto- or Major Konstantin Komarov's Systema manuals?
@johnneydoe

Giuseppe just talks about himself and how great he is for $99. Kamorov’s book is definitely heavy on mindset. Kadochnikov before his death, wrote a lot of books on the biomechanics of systema but they are mostly in Russian.

Body needs tension to manage the force of your arm's momentum. Without tension, your body has no stability, and you can't produce a lot of force. The goal is to find the balance between not enough and too much tension. Use the knowledge of sport sciences to improve your martial style.

No, you can inhabit the fluid/water and hit remaining inside that. What you are saying is true only if you exist outside of the body water in a disassociated or distracted or delusional state

That's exactly why systema is not real lol. They use actors

@@fuzkforyouI’ve found it very real when ever I’ve sparred or drilled with anyone who had a deep practice. It is essentially just using the body water rather than a tension structure. Creates relaxed power that hits and absorbs like water. It’s difficult to figure out if you’ve trained with a western materialistic mindset your entire life. Your culture very much influences and determines your body mechanics so you likely just come from a different culture. No reason to say it’s fake. It’s obviously real if you spend even a couple years contemplating the breath and the awareness / water within which your nerves/perceptions are happening. . Very basic principles.

The 'tension' in his strikes occurs for only a second at the last moment, like when using a hammer, not for the whole movement. When you stay tensed up you transfer all the energy back into yourself like a tuning fork whether delivering or receiving strikes and are more susceptible to potential injury. An analogy would be during a car accident an impaired person suffering less damage than someone who tenses up before the impact. Also, notice how 'heavy' an unconscious person feels to one who is rigid like a board. Harder to pick up or move the one who gives no support to your attempts at getting a hold of them. You should try feeling these strikes from a proper instructor and then write something about the force you felt.

@@Synonomous tension always occurs during the whole movement, check out movement neuroscience (Nikolaï Bernstein's hammer study is easy to understand)

Hi everyone, just two things to clarify, that is not a correct karate punch, nor a correct boxing punch. Let's stop making comparisons when we don't really know the subject well. Best regards

Sir, how will we use martial arts to get over psychological punches like 'fear, shame, fear of being attacked, fear of having to attack' etc. Fear hits us like a punch which we are afraid to soften and let it touch us. Just like taking physical punches we can let these psychological punches land on us with relaxed alertness? Thank you
