Unpopular opinion, but I like how they made Lucina. It's like a gift of giving Marth players a break at competitive and to be more casual. You don't have to worry about doing poorly in precision, so that's one less small thing to keep track of during gameplay. It's simply all it is with the tipper: More minimal power, at the expense of less maximum power. Like you said, consistent, so it's more relaxing. If you wanna kick someone's mule, go ahead and pick Marth to show off your knowledge and skill. If you're too stressed or anxious to worry about it, then pick Lucina. It's all a matter of ability in the end, but even professionals make mistakes at times. Using Lucina might feel or seem like a slight downgrade, or like you're using training wheels, but it still does most of the same basic stuff, with most of the same abilities. You're just gonna be doing moderate instead of the differing "hype" to "sour" bits. All it comes down to is preference. Competitive, hype-living players can pick Marth, while casual, careful-living players can pick Lucina.

If you main Marth, you're going to end up being punished more often for hitting the sour spot. I would go with Lucina, mainly because she doesn't have a sweet spot, making her a good choice between the two.

@@MerryBlind I think the problem is because Lucina is now as tall as Marth (in ssb4 she was shorter than him) and her counter animation is a copied asset from ssb4 but they didn't compensated her old animation with her new taller model and according to the wiki zooming around her belt reveals that her stomach will split open, she seem to have been developed using marth as the basis closer in ultimate than in ssb4

I think I'm pretty much the only guy who prefers Marth over Lucina. I get that Lucina is more consistent but I just really like Marth's tipper kills more. Plus I've actually played Marth's games (Shadow Dragon and Mystery of the Emblem) and watched his anime whereas I haven't played Lucina's games so I prefer Marth for that reason too.

Lucina has a major advantage over Marth and that's the fact that she can be played as a pseudo rushdown compared to Marth. Because spacing isn't as much of an issue, this gives her a larger number of favorable match-ups. There's also the fact that tippers for Marth in Smash Ult is pretty inconsistent though.

@@igirjei3717 With the increase in speed from Smash 4 to Ultimate along with janky mechanics, it's nearly impossible to perfectly space with Marth. Smash 4 had slower movement allowing perfect spacing. Melee has precise controls to back up its speed allowing Marth to space more consistently as well.

So this means Marth's for Melee Veterans such as myself, and Lucina is for newer players in the Wii U era. Not that there's anything wrong with that, playing Marth is not easy. Even though they buffed Marth so that tippers are easier to get, it's still tricky to pull off.
