IN SPANISH LENGUAGE WE USE THE SAME RULE, for married woman we call them ( señora ) and for unmarried woman ( Señorita ) but when you don't know if is married or not we use - Señorita - even though sometimes the lady is very old, just for education you call them like that.
@EnglishCoach3Ts Жыл бұрын
That's interesting. I didn't know about señorita for unmarried women of any age. Thank you!

Do you think men and women should both have 3 choices for titles such as these? or should they both have one choice of a title? What are your thoughts?

Hi ☺️ dear 💕 Tanya , I have a query. A. I will go abroad B. For what/what for My question is which question form is grammatically correct for what or what for? I think for what.
@EnglishCoach3Ts Жыл бұрын
It depends on what you want to say. Can you tell me the whole context with the sentence you want to use?
@dan93431 Жыл бұрын
@@EnglishCoach3Ts thank you for your response. A. I am going abroad. B. For what are you going Or What are you going for? I know in this case both are correct. The difference is first one is very formal and the second one is a little bit informal, but my question is if I would like to use only one word, at that time which one do you consider to be more appropriate? 1) for what or 2) what for?. That's what I meant.🤟🤟😊😊
@EnglishCoach3Ts Жыл бұрын
Yes, you're right. And I would say one is VERY formal and the other is more common. As for your ultimate question, either is correct.

I always use Ms. because I don't run the risk of embarassing anyone. When talking to an elderly lady, I am tempeted to use Mrs.
@EnglishCoach3Ts Жыл бұрын
That totally makes sense. I think Ms. is the safest these days, but sometimes get me in trouble with some crowds.

I personally have never referred to myself as "Ms." Not only because I know the history of who started the term, how it started and why - but also because I never wanted to hide my marital status. As a single woman, I referred to myself as "Miss", well into my 30's. Now that I am married, I refer to myself as "Mrs." I hate it when people who know that I am married, intentionally or unintentionally refer to me as "Ms." I automatically correct them. The same with correspondence from strangers. And I see the trend of women who prefer being called "Ms.", over "Miss" or "Mrs." : Divorced women, especially the ones who filed, single women "by choice" AND feminist-thinking (Eboni K. Williams just threw her "feminism" off the bus), single mothers and married women with high-powered careers, no longer reserving the title for professional reasons exclusively for the workplace are doing so to feel "empowered" and/or to feel aligned with their unmarried "sisters". However, feminism can't change the fact that MOST happily married American women and/or more traditional ones still prefer to be called "Mrs." Whether "feminist icons" and wives, Ciara and Beyonce - who neither represent happily married nor "single independent ladies" - call themselves "Ms." or "Mrs."(Ciara took her husband's last name, Beyonce did the hyphen thing), would interest me to know.
@EnglishCoach3Ts Жыл бұрын
I agree. The majority of traditional women prefer the titles of Miss or Mrs. What do you think about that fact that men don't have the same choice to let their marital status be known? Should we offer them a choice as well?
@marishamayer204 Жыл бұрын
@@EnglishCoach3TsNo, I think we should let well enough alone. Men didn't ask for liberation like women did, so I don't think most men, whether married or single, want their marital status titles changed from "Mr." to something else.
@EnglishCoach3Ts Жыл бұрын
That makes sense. Do you think they want to "hide" their marital status?
