Thanks so much for watching! Any other questions you have on outboard trim or tilt? Or other boat-handling questions?

Ahh, glad to see some things stay constant in this world, like Lenny teaching us the basics of boating) Thanks for the great content, Lenny's vids on how to launch and retrieve a boat helped me a lot 7 years ago. Keep up the good work, guys!

You should also mention how to use the trim lock and when locked in the up position press down until the hydraulic rams are fully retracted to save those as well.

What do you think are the odds of the boating industry deciding on standards for terminology and for marking, as in the trim buttons? Thanks for this video!

Thanks for watching, and great question, Mark. I would say there are probably bigger fish to fry regarding general industry manufacturing standards, but you never know. Standardizing the terminology would certainly make things easier--and maybe even safer. I can ask around since we work closely with the folks at NMMA and other industry groups.

At 0:40 you used tilt terminology when referring to the hydraulic range of the drive unit when you were trimming the engines. 🤨 I came here to clarify when calibrating the trim meter on my gauge because the instructional referred to the max trim angle on the gauge as being when you have the engine in the full tilt up position.

I can understand your point, Zeigy, and it's an important one for what you're attempting to do. Without seeing the instructions ourselves, it's hard to know how they're referring to the terminology. Our point is that there's trim, which helps you get your boat on plane, and there's tilt, which is when the motors are out of the water. And there's a specific point when it changes from one to the other. Hopefully you figured out your calibration.

I've a 1986 Bayliner Contessa with command bridge and a 350 Marine Power engine and 280 outdrive. My outdrive does not have the hydraulic trim system on the outdrive , but it does have the worm gear drive tilt motor and separate trim tabs. The trim tabs appear to just help bring the bown down or adjust the right/left leaning of boat. Can I use the tilt on outdrive to trim boat while underway? I've got terrible gas mileage and need to do something more.

Thanks for the question, RJM. The short answer is yes, you can (and should) use both the sterndrive and trim tabs to obtain the proper trim. If the sterndrive is at an incorrect angle, it will reduce the efficiency of the trim tabs.

Very new to boating just bought first boat. I've enjoyed a couple of your videos but would like to see them in sequence for new to boating. Maybe I'm not seeing the listing of you videos correctly. Do you have some order for new boating beginners? How do I see them in a sequence to learn from beginning, very basic. Thanks

Hi Elise. First, congrats on your new boat! We hope it brings you a lot of fun and joy. And we love that you found our videos! You can find our "quick-start" boating playlist at kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKm2epuejapkd9k There's no real beginning or end. It depends what kind of boat you have or boating you do. With the playlist you can either watch everything or skip around to what applies to you. And definitely let us know if there's something missing. Hope this is helpful!

Tilt is all the way up out of water……….when NOT running engine. Trim is slight adjustments with prop in water 😃😎
