I could see the MLS wanting to sever the Canadian teams in the future, lots of advantages for keeping the league all American. I could see them relocating the Canadian teams to the us then see the team identities to the CPL

The difference is simple the cpl is only in Canada and the MLS is both USA and Canada

Not really. CFL is a byproduct of NFL while CPL follows the common global soccer league structure. MLS, on the other hand, is structured like the common American sports league while following the match rules of the global game. So CPL in it's completed form will not be an MLS Junior. For now, the best comparison is the Australian A-League and the New Zealand soccer league. That will change in the future as CPL grows.

I heard you say the salary cap for Canadian premier league players range from 700.000 - 800.000 dollars. I want to know how much they are paid monthly and are they also given housing facilities?

That is an estimated number. We don't know what the players are getting paid monthly and what their deals include.

Thank you! I believe Canada Soccer pays the refs. As for transparency on contracts, I think it will come over time. I do think players should be paid more, and we'll see a change once a CPLPA starts up.

@@SinCara151 Currently there are 26 teams in MLS in one hand by the other hand 18 teams in Liga MX plus 8 teams in CPL in total another 26 teams, I don't think that merged the leagues is a good idea, but to make 1 or 2 interlegues matches involving all the teams from the 3 leagues with points that counts for their respective tornaments in order that the teams really care those matches, could be an interesting idea.

Curtis, it'd be very interesting down the road to see a CANPL squad go up against U.S. based MLS team imo... What you think???... That could also give us a better idea as to the gap between the 2 leagues, I think!!!!!.... Secondly, another key difference, though not related to financials, but seen in both CANPL & MLS , also seen in the other North American sports leagues (Canada/U.S. that is) is the singing of the national anthems... Of course, only the Canadian one in CANPL and could be both in the MLS or just the American one... As per another mate of mine, national anthems in professional fútbol leagues in other parts of the world are normally reserved for championship games only!!!!... I think that is the way it should be in the fútbol world too at best here in U.S./Canada imho!!!!... I heavily dislike this, lol.... I think I would like to see CPL vs USL or smaller CONCACAF clubs first before we play MLS clubs. I don't think we are close to MLS level, but I do think we could turn a positive results as Cavalry have already shown us. As for the Canadian National anthem, I do believe we should be singing it before every sporting event. It doesn't hurt anyone to play it for 2 minutes. This is a Canadian soccer league, so lets be proud Canadians and sing our anthem!

Plus..., you forgot to mention another difference, is that the MLS is a division 1 pro equivalent soccer league.......and the CPL is a division 2 equivalent pro soccer league, IN NORTH AMERICA.

But that's just shitting on a new soccer league. As a MLS fans, you should know how it feels for your league to be compared to England's third division. Unlike the new CPL, MLS had over 2 decades to work their way up to being seen as England's third division equivalent. MLS was not even considered professional quality a little over a decade ago. The gap between mls and cpl will continue to grow. Watch out when MLS gets their next TV deal. MLS popularity will skyrocket after this, it will surpass the NHL in the US. This is good for the game of soccer in Canada and the US. To your point where mls keeps a portion of transfer fees, this is true. The clubs pockets 95% of the transfer fee, MLS takes 5%. There was an article in the Athletic about this earlier this week. CPL should continue to be a feeder league for the 3 MLS teams.

@@alejandroguerrero5189 Why would people be against this idea? MLS is a fantastic league . It will only continue to grow and will be one of the best leagues in the world in the near future. MLS teams can offer Canadian Players something that CPL cannot offer, thats $$$. Jayden Nelson of TFC would probably be one of the highest, if not the highest paid player in CPL. Cant knock Canadian MLS teams for looking after their players financially.

@@TFC905 I'm getting flashbacks of foreign soccer fans saying this about MLS. Funny how some MLS fans proved to be no better than the Euro snobs they hate. CPL is hear to compete and develop Canadian talent. Like any new league, it's going to take over a decade to build the league up. CPL is already doing better than MLS business wise back when MLS was it's age because they nearly collapsed and only had 3 owners owning multiple teams. It took MLS over a decade to rebuild itself successfully and even til this day shows signs of weakness that hurt the sport nationally regardless of the TV deal. MLS's arrogance and blind growth could come back to hurt them. Ain't no true fan want to be MLS's feeder short nor long term because MLS offers so little for it's own people nationally as is. Rather see more Canadians go to Europe than sell themselves short.

I would love to have the three Canadian MLS clubs in the CPL. I don't see it happening because of behind the scenes legal issues that could come up. Plus, they are getting more exposure in the MLS which only could help their business.

I am going to tell you the difference between CLP and MLS are leagues that are growing but their achilles tendon is that players are almost retiring and they do not have promotions and relegation that means that this league was never taken seriously
