If you take away the shitty government and bad living conditions on some places (althoguh it is easier to survive as a poor person here than in any other country), you realize this is probably the best positioned country in the world. It has many kinds of climates, diverse ecosystems, and many resources. All it needs is a better administration to become a world power.

It's funny because, as a Paraguayan, I've always thought my country occupies a unique middle ground. It's not perfect, but it's far from hellish either. It is the perfect balance point between good and bad to be born.

We usually do not hear a lot about Paraguay. As an european, this is like a far-off hazy mysterious country. Like, we know it exists but we don’t know much about it. Is it also a feature of an average country ? Like, it’s not bad enough to news and media to talk about it often. I watched the Geography Now video to know more about Paraguay and did further research, and in the end Paraguay happens to be kind of surprising. German speaking ppl, densely populated to east but empty to west, very active tripoint border … Interesting.

Wow, while watching the video I was thinking that my country, Paraguay checked a lot of those boxes. We are never the best or the worst in anything, so I was hoping finally we would be on top of a list, as the most average country. But no, not even that. I think Paraguay is a really fascinating place. It's interesting how almost everyone lives in the eastern part of Paraguay and the western part (Chaco) is about as remote as the inland of Northern Sweden. ¡Me encantaría visitar algún día! 🇵🇾

I can't believe that I had Guatemala right from the beginning ! I first thought Portugal but I realized that GDP per capita would be far from the median, so I immediately thought Central America, because there are a bunch of small countries but not too small, not too rich nor too poor, not too hot either. I knew Costa Rica was a bit too unique to be the most average, and most neighbooring countries were too small EXCEPT Guatemala. Also I instantly recognized Lichtenstein from the data in the table. In fact I'm lying, at the beginning I was hesitating with Andorra, but as soon as you mentioned GDP per capita there was no doubt 😁

As an international student from Azerbaijan who have seen many different cultures, I was expecting Azerbaijan to be on that list as soon as i saw the video. But in terms of having some similarities with different cultures plus its own Caucasus culture, it is a very unique place in the world.

Pretty mich most of the northern hemisphere has an higher gpd, while most of the southern hemisphere is lower. I think morocco and tunisia are good candidates. I mean we see in the Video that there are more average countrys, but I dont think they are too far off.

There are many different answers to how many countries there are depending on who you ask. For the sake of simplicity I included the 193 countries recognized by the UN + the two observer states (Palestine + Vatican)

To elect the most average country, I would have taken the average difference from the median for each value in percentage of the median itsel. For instance if the median is 30 and the value 20, the difference 10 is 33% from the median value (10/30%).
