This video is about the effectiveness of my chosen dog training methodology. Today we explore the difference between efficacy and effectiveness in the dog training world.
I hope you guys enjoy!
This channel is devoted to providing a window into the life of professional dog trainer, Stonnie Dennis. I talk about dog training, boarding, health, equipment, and all the things that go into owning and running a successful dog training and boarding kennel.
At our kennel we place special emphasis on helping dogs reach their full potential through the use of physically and mentally demanding activities. Our primary goal is to help families raise happy, healthy, well socialized, canine companions.
We especially love training Labrador Retrievers, so don't be surprised when you see Labs of every age, size, shape, and color!!!

I really enjoy and appreciate your videos. I’ve usd your lessons and techniques to train 2 Labradors I acquired from people who could not manage them. One is 3 yo the other is 14 mths. By following your advise these dogs have turned out magnificent. I take them everywhere-restaurants, shopping centers, sporting events etc. and I might add without a leash on. Fortunately many businesses let me bring the dogs in for training during times they were not busy. We do something everyday with the dogs. Thank you for helping me turn out some remarkable dogs!

Followed all your advice and I have the best dog in the world right now. Everyone loves him everywhere he goes and he's incredibly well-behaved. Loves all people, loves all dogs. Oh and well within a healthy weight ;)

I have kept dogs since I was 17 yrs old, and when I think back to the bad old days of dominance based training I feel quite ashamed. I have two mixed breed dogs, both probably bred for pig hunting (big here in New Zealand), who participate in Rally and Trieball - both trained with positive reinforcement. These two dogs learn well, learn fast and are happy, which makes me happy! Love what Stonnie has to say, and I have to confess that I have used a lot of his ideas in the classes I lead at my club. Cheers, Ailsa Hawkins

Quote of the day by Stonnie "It's real difficult to stay if someone is peeing on you" 🤣🤣🤣 Brilliant video explaining perfectly the concept and benefits of positive reinforcement. Very honest too about effectiveness. Nice to see unedited videos that don't cut out the mistakes. Thank you Mr Dennis 👍

I had a big shepherd decades ago... was very fond of him. I am buying a male pup, out here in Oregon from a breeder who has good parent dogs, and recommended your videos. I appreciate your approach: develop the dog's personality...socialize him with dogs and people, and then work on specifics. I like what you do. I also see that you have a great family, looks like you enjoy the hunt and fish lifestyle, I think we share a lot of the same values. This new pup will not be a working dog... such as police or military, just a well behaved fishing buddy... capable of persuading anyone from stealing my fishing rods.

Hello,Stonnie. Just found your channel. My dog and I are doing Search and Rescue. All these dogs are trained only with positive reinforcement. As they work in great distance of their handlers, in fields and forests they have to be very reliable in their desire to find humans, because we have no direct influence on them. So it is fair to say, that our training works in controlled situations but also in "real life", otherwhise no missing persons would be found. Love your videos. Greetings from Germany 😊

Great channel. I’ve learned a lot. I have a 6 month old yellow lab that I have been training the basics. Sit, down, stay and come. Just the basics using positive reinforcement. Oh yes…. He walks well on a leash….. no pulling. But when we meet people all bets are off. Just no way I can expose him daily to distractions as shown here. Hopefully with maturity all this will improve. Anyway thanks for the tips.

Very clear message in this latest video, Stonnie.. & same with kids but it does take time & patience & focus. I'm talking from a retired early childhood teacher's perspective. I'm 73 &trying to "rehabilitate" my son-in-law's lovely red heeler. She was stuck in the yard, ripping up the yard &barking for 18 months before I dared to intervene &looked for help on the internet. First Doggy Dan in NZ but that was too expensive. Then I found you &a few UK blokes. I find your calmness &joy inspiring &your videos build my confidence every day &keep up my motivation. I even talk like you. Your diplomacy re other methods & people who criticize you is also to be commended. I'm in Darwin NT Australia. I'd put a pic up but...maybe daughter can help. Keep making dogs happy 💜☮

Hey stonnie.. I would say dont rise to the haters and make a video to explain your theory but so so glad you did, so much information and love shared for the training you provide.. excellent!! Just got myself a pup, collie dutch herder cross and have been using your methods not aswell as you do them but in comparison I'm a rookie but having said that.. chase the pup is 10 weeks he can sit, give paw, lay down, rollover. Struggling to keep him calm whilst doing this and teaching stay but like your coffee with stonnie video. I will just keep whittling till I get that spoon.. keep the vidz coming..

We've learned a lot since Bill Koehler wrote his "bible". Dogs haven't changed, so compulsion training still works. But if there is a method that's easier on the dogs and trainers, why not use it? The point of training is to habituate behaviors until they become reflexive responses to commands. The sooner you start working with pups, the more solid the foundation you build. You can't use force on young pups and get good results. By varying the frequency of rewards, you can develop trained responses without becoming dependent on having a bag of hotdogs on your person at all times. Foodwork can help you build a foundation while making it easier to develop an obedient dog who can still think his way through problems. Plus overdoing compulsion can, if not wreck a dog, set back your training substantially. A sensitive dog and a trainer having a bad day is not a good combination. Finally, there are things that you really can't train with positive punishment. We've all met or read the rantings of "clicker jihadis" who don't believe in inconveniencing a dog in any way during training. There is a 3rd way, however. My man Stonnie has found a way to make a living out of playing with puppies. You want to argue with a man like that?

SOS!!!!!!Stonnie, Thanks for this special video. I have just gotten a Mally 2 y.o.one month ago that is scared of everything. He runs from noises, puts his ears flat ALOT, and trembles among many more behaviors! I bought him from a breeder for a few thousand dollars and he was to be a family companion with obed. training. But I don't see much of any . He won't get in the car, is scared to go outside, he circles and paces in the house. I think I might have him house-broken?! I want him to be a Happy and playful dog. He doesn't know how to play(with anything, not even a ball) HELP! Can you help me by giving me some suggestions to overcome FEAR, PTSD, isolation or whatever could have caused this? He is a SPECIAL case. Like a rescue/shelter dog. The breeder gave me no history, or info about him except his parents a imports form Belgian and France. And he didn't make stud dog, police work, agility etc so I guess he bombed out and was left at the bottom was family comp. dog. I am a senior, retired teacher w/ some mobility issues but I can play ball and other things with him. I can't get him to the vet bec I can't get him in the car!!!! This whole exper. has be very upsetting but she assured me he would be different in 6 mos. What an expensive and sad lesson for me, I want to make an obstacle course like yours but he is a s scared as a rabbit. Please help me. I'm trying to plan some training lessons to help him. His pedigree is awesome and he is beautiful! but that doesn't make him less scared of the world. Thank for your help! Marian in Texas

Greetings from Greece! You are doing a great job! I really like your approach to dog training! Why dont you consider doing some kind of nosework? I think it would be very stimulating for the dogs, especially puppies! Just an idea! Keep up the good work
