Most mini pumps do indeed suck, but there are few on the market that don't, the Lezyne Road Drive is the king, followed by the Topeak Race Rocket HP, and then the Birzman Swift seems to do pretty good according to a friend of mine that uses one. There may be a half a dozen of other ones out there that do well enough, I know there are some that are sold in Europe we can't get in America that are decent pumps, but none of those will beat the Lezyne. There are what I call 1/2 frame pumps, some call them micro floor pumps, that are very easy to operate without the bulk of a full frame pump, the Topeak Road Morph G is very good, this one has a fold out foot peg and handle to facilitate pumping, but it is large, heavy, and ugly; I own this one too. Another serious consideration is the Lezyne Micro floor digital Drive HPG, but like the Topeak it's large, heavy, and ugly; I don't know anyone who has used one of these so I can't comment on it, but it is a Lezyne so it should be top notch.

I keep a good floor pump in my car, the van, the basement, the garage, at work. But then I'm not shy about spending money on good bike stuff. On my bikes, it's Zefal HPX frame pumps on every one. 100 strokes with a Zefal and you would blow out the tire.... Mini pumps are cute but not what I'd take on a ride.

It would have been nice to know what maximum PSI you could get with each pump if you pressed until no more goes in. If I need to pump with handpump i know it will suck but at least i would like to know I can reach a desired pressure for all that effort.

This video made an error, the reviewer was putting air into a road bike tire, yet he used a Lezyne Digital Pressure Drive pump which is more designed for mountain bike or other such larger but lower pressure tires and not for a road bike. He should have used the Lezyne Road Drive pump which is made for high pressure road bikes. If he done that he would have discovered that 100 strokes would have gotten him to 35 psi with the long version, the short version would see about 20 psi, and the middle size one about 27 psi. Road pumps deliver a lot of pressure but not a lot volumn so using a road pump on a mountain bike would be very labor intensive. I have the non digital Pressure Drive version as well as the Road Drive (long version), I can say from experience that the Pressure Drive will NOT pump a road tire anywhere near 110 psi, it will reach about 75 with quite a bit of struggle, whereas the Road Drive long version will get to 125 with quite a bit of struggle (I never go that high but I did just to test it). I doubt the shorter versions of the Road Drive will get to 125, the shortest one may get to 85 maybe 90, and middle size one somewhere in between. I selected the long version because when you get up to the higher pressures the longer version makes it a bit easier to get those last 15 or so strokes in without blowing an artery like you would on the shortest one and still not be at 100. Of all the mini pumps that I use to own or still currently own the Lezyne is by far the best one I've found for road tires, it will reach the higher psi that most roadies use which about 95% of the pumps on the market will not despite saying on their packaging they'll reach 160...in fact I've never found any mini pump to date that will get anywhere near 160! they're lucky if they make it to 100!! Also the quality of constuction on both Lezyne models that I own is very high, higher then any other pump I've ever had. Lezyne is the only pump I will ever buy...unless by some slim chance another company develops something better, but I doubt because mini pumps have sucked since they first came out and Lezyne is the only one that will make it to the higher pressure and not break or blow an artery while doing it.

Why would anyone pump up to 160, letalone 110 psi. Heck 160 psi could easily destroy a carbon fiber rim. Checknout Silca products if you like quality.
@Rekmeyata
@Rekmeyata 2 жыл бұрын
@@rickdoehler502 It's all about the difficulty of using one pump vs another to get to whatever pressure you use on your road bike, say 80 psi. A pump that can't make it to 100 is going to give you a huge struggle to get to 80, one that can make it to 100 will give you less of a struggle. Silca is all overpriced crap. Why would you spend $85 for a 17 piece hex key set from Silca when you buy a Tekton with 26 keys mixed with SAE and Metric for just $16? Don't go into quality BS thing, those Tekton keys are made for taking on automotive stuff which is a lot tougher on tools than a bicycle is. Oh wait, I know why you want to spend nearly $70 more for the Silca, because you need that wood box to store the tools in. Silca Tattico mini pump is a beast, that's for sure, but that beast is larger than most other mini's in diameter, and far outweighs most mini's, you're talking 169 grams at 9 1/2 inches long; whereas the Lezyne Road Drive long is 97 grams. The Lezyne is $15 less. But wait, if you want something lighter the Silca Pocket Impero is $70 more! and still weighs more than the Lezyne, and the Silca is more difficult to pump with, it takes more force and more strokes to reach a given psi. So, no, Silca is not the gold standard, it just takes a lot gold to buy their stuff.

@@Rekmeyata Note really, I have Silca stuff, One of which is a floor pump that is over 30 years old, still works like a champ and I was able to replace pieces to keep it going as recently as last year. I have a Tekton torque wrench that is nice but you really can't compare it with the Silica wrench set in craftmanship. Tekton has that Russian craftmanship to it. FYI, You can set some great prices on Silca stuff when it's on sale. That's what I do. Same with other quality products out there like Patagonia. Only a rube or buys good stuff at top dollar. Myself I use CO2. I do have a Tattico that I got on sale from Silca. Very nice but I'm not in to the mini pump thing. Maybe you'd like to buy it. For you I have a special student price.

I dont know how any one can tolerate these stupid pumps. I like to ride not pump. Get the largest pump you can manage. Frame pumps are best. I like Lezyne alloy( cheapest) but get the largest size they make. Small enough for jersey but big enough to pump up 40c tires easy. Zefal hp is a good frame pump.

Have fun pumpin with something smaller. I prefer to ride not pump. Bigger longer pumps are more efficient. I used to carry frame pumped but they get clogged with dust dirt and mud. All my rides include dirt. The road is only a necessary evil to get to dirt

This test was useless for the most part. All those pumps claim they can reach 120 psi at least, so lets see if any of then can get to just 100 psi, and how many strokes did it take to get that high. I would make the dare even more challenging but I know NONE of the pumps will make it to their advertised max psi level, and I doubt any of those pumps will get past 80 psi.

80 or 90 psi is more than sufficient to finish a ride. What all this 100, 110, 120 psi stuff?
@frozerekmeyata4091
@frozerekmeyata4091 2 жыл бұрын
@@rickdoehler502 what it has to do with is the capability of the pump, if it can get to 100 to 120 then it can get to 80 to 90 easier than a pump that can only get to say 90. So, you want a pump that is capable of going at least 40 psi more than you'll ever need, either that or get working out at the gym to become pumped up like Arnold so you can pump that tiny pump to 80 psi without strain, just a lot of strokes. MOST mini pumps cannot get to the psi they claim on the packaging that they can do, a lot say 160psi, that's nonsense, I don't know of any pump that can do that, even the best one, the Lezyne Road Drive Large won't get you to 160 unless you're Hercules. Most mini pumps will get to 70 with a lot of struggles and a lot of strokes, and when you finally, if ever, reach 70 you will blow a gut. So you want a pump with a known track record of being able to reach higher pressures without Herculean strength needed. A good pump is the Topeak Race Rocket HP but I prefer the Lezyne Road Drive large, it takes less strokes and is easier to get to 80 than the Topeak, but the Topeak is a very good second place pump; both are very well-built pumps in terms of durability and longevity. I own both of those pumps, so I know what they're capable of.
@frozerekmeyata4091
@frozerekmeyata4091 2 жыл бұрын
@@rickdoehler502 This is really simple if you put on your thinking cap. If a pump can only make it to 80psi, well you think that's great, except because 80 pounds is its upper limit that means it will take a great deal more effort to get there both in power and in the number of strokes. If a pump can make it to 100 or more, then that means it's easier for that pump to reach 80 psi than the other one did. Does that make sense to you? This is why the only two pumps that I've found that can reach 120 psi, even though I don't go that far, is the Lezyne Road Drive large, and the Topeak Race Rocket HP, of those two the Lezyne takes less force and less strokes to get to 80 psi. The Lezyne with a 23c tire takes 117 strokes to get to 80, the Topeak took 132, my old SKS Wese Race Carbon pump takes 186 if I remember correctly, and a lot more effort than the other two. Other pumps I ordered and sent back, about 14 of them, could not get to even 70psi and that was with a great deal of difficulty. One of those 14 pumps was a SKS Puro Piano Black pump, a beautiful looking pump, but when the pump got to 45 or so PSI it blew out the end, I called SKS and they sent me the Wese Carbon pump instead. The Silca Tactical pump is very expensive, but it took 195 strokes to get to 80 psi! not a good pump for the money they want for it. The small Topeak Race Rocket (not the HP) took 180 strokes. Some are just crazy, like the Blackburn Airstik takes over 300 strokes to get to 80 psi, while it did make it, it was on the very edge of its upper limit and it took far too much effort to get there.

Was a little apprehensive when buying this with the few negative reviews on here, but this was exactly the kind of bike I was looking for. kzbin.infoUgkxn_jUDSlprMIeubd9rHdEAnv59nKfjcKv I plan to ride it on paved roadways and trails, and wanted a "Grocery Getter" so to speak. After receiving it (without any damage), I had it out of the box, and fully assembled in about 30 minutes. I did not have to look at the manual, and I'm glad because I did look at it after I got it together, and it looks like it's a manual for several different styles. I did have to adjust the breaks and gear shifters, but that's been my experience with every bike I've owned. There was one review in particular that made me nervous, saying it was not meant for someone 6'4", it was too short. Well I'm 6'5" (230lbs) with a 36" inseam, and can tell you this bike fits perfectly, granted the seat is in it's highest safe position. I've only had it for 3 days so far, and if things change I will update my review, but I put 26 miles on it so far, and it rides like a dream. Very comfortable seating position. The front suspension is good for the occasional rock or bump you hit on asphalt, but this bike is not made to be taken off road, and I'm OK with that. I was particularly happy to see the wheels were trued perfectly. I was expecting to have to take them in and have them trued at a local bike shop, as I've had to do with all my past bike purchases, but in this case they were already in great shape. For the money, this is an awesome bike.
